[Bug - x64 build 7057] XP computers do not show up in Network

Recommended Posts

Here's another weird anomoly I've found.

XP computers do not show up in the Network, which previously worked in build 7000 and 7047. What is stange is that you can type in \\(computer name) and it will show up the shares, but it does not actually show up in the network places.

I noticed that as well. No XP PC's in network (like pre-beta builds) and various other bugs. Seems like a step backwards except for the eye candy. Oh yea, my graphics score is lower with this build.

Set WORKGROUP name to be same on your Windows 7 7057 machine and XP and it will work. Apparently beta testers have no clue :)

No it won't and yes we do, well at least most of us. :p

It's a bug, pure and simple. Even with the correct workgroup name and settings the only way to browse the network is to type the full path in Explorer manually.

  • 2 months later...

For what it's worth...I created a shortcut on the windows 7 desktop with a shared folder on one of the many xp machines in my workgroup. I accessed this as suggested here by \\(computer name). As soon as I open that shortcut/ folder to view it, the entire workgroup ie all the other pc's including the one with the shared folder pop up in the network. A clunky workaround at best, assuming it's just not the tilt of the planet that's making this work.

Curious to know if this works for anyone else as I like many have tried everything. Mine did work the first time and then the same problem we all seem to be having reared it's ugly head
