Prepare yourselves, the old skins are going bye bye!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

The lack of selection on Finity was an outrage to me! I HATE the dark dark blue which is 95% of why I use Shift Graphite today.

*sniffles* I'll miss you my beloved Shift.

EDIT: Owait. Apparently I didn't read that right. A NEW theme. As in entirely new. Ahh I get it. I hope it will have colour selection.

I like Shift for the Forum and not Finity, but Finity for the main page.

So OS terms, im sticking to XP(ironically lol) and Finity ='s Vista. So I hope the new theme will be Windows 7(a blend of both).

Anyway, OS Metaphors aside, I hope you guys make it a nice theme. Shift and Finity! Remeber that!

Can I request something?

I'd like the theme to have user changeable colours, as in a fair few of colours.

Abit like msgplus's website, a design that can have the colours changed easily and still look as good:

http://www.msgpluslive.com (click the paint icon at the top to change colour).

Thats a bad comparison in my opinion, all bad opinions of Vista aside, Vista was a major overhaul behind the scenes and visually and thats how this new IPB3 theme should be compared to. Finity did not receive nearly enough changes to be considered Vista and it never had any of the complaints that Vista did. But, I don't think there is a version of windows that you can compare to Finity, unless you call XP SP2 Finity and XP Shift.

When is the expected date of the release of this?

We plan to keep the old skins until we upgrade to IPB3 (at which time they will become incompatible).

The IPB3 upgrade is expected in or around June of 2009.

I like Shift -- I don't want change
I like Shift too. How about we make a petition? :)

Just try Finity for a week and if you are anything like me, will quickly forget about Shift or won't even realize you are using Finity anymore.

    • I'd say the first one failed to be as popular as Apple anticipated, but the easy adjustment here is to make fewer of them next time around. It would only be a "flop" if it isn't possible for Apple to recover the design and factory tooling costs given the number of units sold, which I doubt would be the case. It isn't like no one bought them; it just failed to become the new hot phone of the year.
    • You're right that it does not follow the plain meaning of the word, but in this context, it is a legal term defined in 49 U.S.C. Kind of how "wire fraud" laws apply even if a physical wire was not used. Given that it is codified in law, and it isn't just automotive journalists that don't understand evolving technology, I highly doubt congress would change a well understood term just because technology makes the term slightly less actuate.
    • This is exactly why I keep saying we are not ready for human free self-driving. These little "bugs" are may seem like random one-offs. There was also the Waymo that drove between police with drawn weapons and the suspect they were pointing them at. From a software perspective it is easy to understand how those extremely rare situations may not have been programed for, but that is the point. If AI needs to be told to watch out for every possible contingency, then it can never be successful. There will always be the possibility of a first encounter that the AI needs to understand to avoid.
