+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 31, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted March 31, 2009 No links (and not through PM either, there's a thing called Google for the curious), but damn Nintendo must be annoyed at how badly the Wii has been ripped apart :pinch: Guess somewhat of a relief for them is the majority of their audience probably finds most of this stuff too complex for now. Method is a little backwards, you have to connect a USB2 device to your Wii which the application will format in WFBS (I think it's called that), then to rip games to it you must do it through the Wii by inserting a DVD. If the device has multiple partitions you can select one partition only and leave the other intact. Might work with NTFS/FAT32 and be drag and drop from a PC in the future, but not for now. Load times are drastically improved, many games that stuttered before are not doing it any more. Coldgunner
I gotta admit, having the homebrew channel really makes the wii useful for me. If there were good games to pirate that I haven't already bought then I would, there isn't anything worth downloading and I merely use the console for emulation. I can see a PSP style war between firmware releases and exploits. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 31, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted March 31, 2009 Well the new firmware 4.0, can pretty much still run everything with the exception of some things like Starfall which can region patch the Wii. However a new application has already popped up for 4.0 doing most of what Starfall can. By the way, here's a speed loading comparison Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/753362-wii-usb2-iso-loader-released/#findComment-590785400 Share on other sites
t0mbi
WOW :o thats was way faster! i Didnt realise that the wii was a bitch when it come to exploits lol Does the wii have a USB 2 port? What is this homebrew channel thing? Is this a modchip or software? +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 31, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted March 31, 2009 I've now tried this with Broken Sword, Twlighlight Princess and Madworld. Working perfectly (Y) I just used a random USB2 drive I had around. Unfortunately it's manual power off and a little noisy. I want to buy one of these USB powered bad boys - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Pa...7924&sr=8-9 Will look perfect along side the Wii and they're confirmed to be working fine. Rudy
I think I will buy a USB enclosure just so i can get rid of the loading times :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/753362-wii-usb2-iso-loader-released/#findComment-590785860 Share on other sites
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 31, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted March 31, 2009 A command prompt fuelled tool has popped up already to let you add ISO files from your computer to your hard drive. Probably only a matter of hours before a GUI is made for it. The drive still has to be formatted by the ISO loader through the Wii first. The Teej
Oh wow, that is MUCH faster. I don't think we'll see those kind of differences on *every* game, though (for example, I doubt Twilight Princess will load any faster, as it loads super quick anyway). +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 1, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 1, 2009 Oh dear god, you didnt just ask that!? :p The applications themselves aren't illegal I don't think. Not really any different than any other homebrew app or custom firmware. For example the PSP firmware people link to on these boards. However to cover my own ass I just said I'm not linking them or accepting PMs :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/753362-wii-usb2-iso-loader-released/#findComment-590791224 Share on other sites
The Teej
Guys stop PMing me I can't be bothered to answer lots of questions :laugh:Google "GBATemp" and vistit the Wii Hacking forums for all your answers (Y) Hell, just link to it. There's nothing illegal there (and I would know, being a mod there and all). Argi
Is the Homebrew Channel still the latest thing for custom Wii software these days? It's been a ageesss since I've looked into it and I figure it might be time to get the bloody thing doing something other than collecting dust. I'm thinking emulation as well. Twilight hack still work? (I haven't updated firmware to 4.0) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/753362-wii-usb2-iso-loader-released/#findComment-590808296 Share on other sites

(I haven't updated firmware to 4.0) Yes, Homebrew Channel is still the latest method, and I don't expect it to change, seen as a) it's legal (no nintendo code used, all rebuilt using fresh code) and b) it doesn't get erased when you update. Twilight Hack still works (unsure on 4.0, I'll have to get back to you on that), but once you update, it gets erased, so generally the idea is to use the Twilight Hack to install HBC, and then you can do whatever you want. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 5, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 5, 2009 Twilight hack won't work on 4.0 I don't think. If you're going to update to 4.0 you need to make sure you have the Homebrew Channel installed and some custom CiOS file I believe. Guide to updating to 4.0 - http://wii.yafaze.com/4.0updateguide.html Personally I've just stuck to 3.2. Coldgunner
Twilight hack don't work on 4.0 You cannot install the hacked DVD drivers on 4.0 Only thing I have working is the homebrew channel and stuff like quake etc. If they figure a way to back up Gamecube games I'll be interested, so I can put the games in storage. Sethos
So I guess by this standard, it would be okay to create news on say, 360 ixtreme Firmware updates and such? +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 5, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 5, 2009 So I guess by this standard, it would be okay to create news on say, 360 ixtreme Firmware updates and such? Yeah sure as long as you don't link to it. But what does it do, it just plays copied cds. Not like change list for ixtreme really compromises of anything apart from New Live detection protection So no one really mentions it. This is partly homebrew related also, as it means applications and everything else will be able to be booted off a USB hard drive. You can load legitimately backed up discs from a hard drive without tampering with your hardware. Short answer to your question though, yes :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/753362-wii-usb2-iso-loader-released/#findComment-590809856 Share on other sites

Short answer to your question though, yes :p Yeah I'd like to believe that but previous actions by staff doesn't really back up your theory there and just fyi, the latest version of ixtreme brought a pretty significant list of changes which goes beyond "detection prevention", it's actually quite the opposite. So I'd love to hear some staff opinions on this matter, why some threads of this nature are allowed and others aren't, despite not linking to illegal material or discussing how to do it etc. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/753362-wii-usb2-iso-loader-released/#findComment-590810112 Share on other sites

Symbiotic Hat
So the only way to load HBC is with a Twilight Princess game? I'd hate to have to go out and buy Twilight Princess just to load the HBC.
