There?s a press event for Star Trek Into Darkness going down this evening, and tweets from reporters in attendance have answered one major question about the Trek sequel. Alice Eve, pictured above, is apparently playing

Carol Marcus, the woman who was the mother of Kirk?s son, David, in the earlier Trek films

. What does this mean for Into Darkness, and with regards to Cumberbatch?s role?

Before Khan comes back, I should say it is thought that the young blonde lab tech Mitchell introduces Kirk to in "WNMHGB", is

Carol Marcus

. Maybe JJ might be setting something up here for the third film.

I don't see the woman being Carol Marcus. If I recall, Kirk decided to go "back" to Starfleet rather than carry on the relationship. I think that rules out Carol Marcus even BEING in Starfleet.

As for the screenshot, it's interesting that Cumberpatch is wearing a shirt with the Starfeel insignia. I guess they did say a threat from within Starfleet. Wouldn't it be cool if it was the species that took over people's bodies in TNG?

Except that it is now confirmed to be her. Check trekmovie.com for more info.

There is no canon timeline for the alternate universe, they can put characters in whatever situation they want to now.

According to that site Cumberbatch will be called Harrison in the movie so that puts Gary Mitchell out the window I suppose

Wow it is confirmed to be Carol Marcus? I know the timeline is different but I didn't think they would change it that much. In ST 2, it was implied that the two were together when Kirk had left Starfleet and he left her to return. If it indeed is her in this movie, I wonder if SHE leaves to be a private scientist to invent the Genesis Device.

Sorry to spoil all the speculation guys but have you seen Benedict Cumberbatch's ear closely?

This dude is a Vulcan. This ain't no Gary Mitchel or anything close to it. This character is Vulcan, which probably explains why he and Spock are touching on the glass and if you see closely to that scene, Spock is touching the glass with the Vulcan salute. This dude is related to Spock some how. The ear is there to prove he is not human.

Perhaps you're over estimating Cumberbatch's ear?

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers.
