Ridley Scotts "Prometheus" (2012)

Recommended Posts

There are plenty of sci-fi books with friendly aliens and they seem to work out fine. It is possible but main catch wouldnt be action but something more intricate like character development or interesting conversations.

Anyhow i am still very eager to see Prometheus :)

Just because it works in a book doesn't mean it will work in a movie. There's a reason why books are usually better than their film adaptations. You can't expect people to pay $14 to see movie about humans having a cup of tea with some friendly aliens. There's very few in Hollywood able to create the kind of dialogue it would take to make an entertaining movie.

Avatar :p

But the story didn't keep them friendly very long. And Avatar was so far from being original it made me sick. Horrible piece of crap movie if there ever was one. :x

I'd say the story is set in the Alien Universe, but it's before Aliens existed.

Yeah, but from what I read awhile back it was rumored to tell the story on how the Space Jockeys created the Alien species to dominate planets by dropping off a few eggs to wipe civilizations off the map and then take over the planets. On one run, the Jockey ship carrying the eggs crashed and that's where you find the original Alien movie picking up that story.

There are plenty of tv shows that show humans on distant planets co-mingling with the alien inhabitants. Just make a movie around it.. Can't be that hard..

I've just seen it!!!

The movie is great for both the Alien fans and everyone else! It's totally worth it and I'm very much impressed despite a few things only noticeable to a pedantic person like myself :)

No one could have done a better job than Mr. Scott. He has created another masterpiece.

How would you rate it? So far, the best movie of the year for me is Avengers. It was exciting and funny, hardly a dull moment. It did a great job of pulling you into the universe... I know it is a totally different movie, but how does it stack to that? Cause I've been saying, If Avengers doesn't get Movie of the Year, it will be because of either Batman or Prometheus.

I wouldn't compare a PG16 movie to a Walt Disney production ))

Ridley Scott delivers. His vision differs from that of Cameron or Lucas or Zemeckis or Spielberg, but they are all together in a separate league imho.

Please, in spoiler tags of course, tell me (us, curious readers!) if the movie is indeed an Alien prequel, if they explain the Space Jockey etc if it is a prequel, and anything else that may pertain to the Alien universe :) If you have the time of course sir.

I second this. Spoilers never ruin the movie for me, only get me more pumped up for it, so please, spoil me :p

Sweet, and ya , I know trying to compare them is like apples and oranges. Just been waiting for both of these movies for so long lol.

haha here you go:

YES!!! It is the Alien prequel! The action takes place on LV226 )) The space jokey is there, alive, and his space ship's deck is fully operational ))

and anything else that may pertain to the Alien universe

The ending is such that there's a strong possibility for a sequel where the world of the titans (the creators) will be explored. And it is not a cheesy cliff-hanger!

****, now I really want to see this... like now! Thanks.

What a mess of a movie, a major disappointment! I went to see it with 7 other friends and we all agreed that this movie is technically and visually really nicely made but completely lacks substance, interesting plotline or believable characters. It's a huge failure on those aspects, Really, really annoying because it could have been so huge, it could have been a really good sci-fi movie but parts of it are so bad, that it was ridiculous. I mean zombies? WTF.

Worst of all it doesn't explain anything (the stuff people were talking about before the release of the movie that it's about gods creating the aliens to destroy human kind is non-sense), instead it creates more questions how everything fits together; not even talking about the huge plotholes. What an embarrassment for Ridley Scott.

I really wanted to love this movie, especially after those great trailers but this movie is not even close to being an decent movie.

Sweet. Thanks for the info. Must see now.

You welcome, guys. )) I'll look forward to you posting your impressions ))

It's kinda lame that the film's North American release is later than the European one, but it's pretty understandable with the current titles.

The studious want to milk the MIB3's and the Avengers' cows first...oh those greedy corporations!

p.s. btw, I couldn't fall asleep till 3 a.m. last night coz I was under the film's affect.

Lot's of thoughts were running thru my head about the creation and everything. In the end, I've decided for myself that the film's moral is to enjoy the life we've got here. Although I very much wish to travel to the stars, I was really happy to be on Earth with my loved-ones last night.

I was quite skeptical after reading alot mediocre reviews, but I absolutely loved it. Lots of really interesting stuff.

I think vacs may have seen Men In Black 3 by accident.

I certainly think they showed far too much in the trailers though and I feel that's where some people might be dissapointed.

Exact reason why I refuse to watch the trailers when they come out, i'll go as far as watching the TV commerical trailers, but they put out WAY too much info about the movie with the way they handle trailers today.

I guess I was in a good position in so much as I watched almost no trailers, and paid no attention to the hype of this film. I just went and took it in, and enjoyed it for what it was.

Things I liked? Stunning visuals - a real treat in IMAX 3D. Some very good performances (Fassbender is perfect as an android), genuine feelings of discomfort and dread at their isolation and increasingly diabolical situation, etc. I liked the whole concept and the notion about what our origins are - it asks interesting questions, and opens up possibilities I like to consider.

Things I disliked? A bit too "Hollywood" and safe when you compare it to the likes of Alien. I know it was a conscious decision to soften it slightly to get a lower certificate and therefore make it more accessible to more people. Some slightly ridiculous scenes and some very questionable decisions made by characters at various points which you just doubt that any sane person would of made

like all gleefully taking masks off and THEN opening sealed chambers, or when they encounter the snake like aliens!

.

All in all I enjoyed it, I was hooked the whole way through and it left me wanting some more.

Which it looks like we might get.

    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
