For the 2 I made, it was just a matter of finding the programs folder that stored the icons. Don't know if any of those programs you have listed even have a folder with the icons in it, or if they are built into the exe of the programs itself, as I don't use any of those programs

Upload the exe-files so that we can check if they contain the icon. :) Might not work on Nod32 though as it possibly protects it's executables. I mean, it's an AV software after all. ;)

Btw. What do you mean by the sign out icon of messenger? After a quick peak at msnmsgr.exe it only seems to contain some icons, not the status icons. Another icon in different sizes is contained in ctticon.ico. Looking in msgsres.dll I found the status icons at least (extracted them and attached to this post).

Note that this file is patched by apatch so if you use that you should patch it after apatch has done it's thing.

I don't like the icons being all monochrome... it's harder to distinguish them. That's why colors are good for icons.

The wireless reception bars... I was expecting something green, I even thought the connection was broken.

They're stylish, yeah, but I still think having colors would help distinguish things.

I made a few quick samples of the icons for Live Messenger that I uploaded earlier. Tell me what you think. :) I plan to try them out tomorrow or whenever I get the time. Shouldn't be a problem to reshack them into msgsres.dll though.

I took the time to do the rest of them as well, 14 in total. I've included all the ico-files in the attachment to this post. I also made a modified msgsres.dll (needed for it to work) but unless I know it's okay to post it I will not do so. I already made the mistake of posting a modified user32.dll.mui a few months back.

Btw. Why is the edit function time limited? I feel like I'm spamming. :(

Pardon the intrusion,

I'd like to go with the all white system tray icon look as well. I assume that some people are using a resource editor to swap out icons? If that is the case - would anyone point me out to the best software and method to do this?

Thanks!

I use Resource Hacker. It hasn't been updated since 2002 but it still works just great in modern OS:s. After you open a file, check under Icon and then right-click and select Replace resource (or Replace icon, I don't remember). It will then open a dialog box where you can select the icon to replace. When done, just save the file and replace the original.

    • Keep in mind Intuit has lobbied like crazy to keep taxes complicated so they can continue to sell tax software. They also got caught hiding their legally mandated free version so they could release a second one that pushed countless people into charges they didn't need to pay to file. Intuit leads the charge on inventing problems so they can sell you the solution and disrespecting you in the process.
    • Oddly, there was a time that UFC games were culturally relevant, largely because of the graphics and gameplay that was different than the norm. But it seems like as the sport grew in popularity, gaming outlets stopped talking about the games.
