If you have an Intel 945 chipset then that's your problem. The chipset itself is limited to 32 bit addressing and cannot address more than ~3 GB RAM.

Thats strange. I'll have to check mine when I refresh my desktop this weekend. (Also with a P965 chipset - Abit board)

Surely you can't install a 64bit chip in 32bit limited mobos?!

I don't think its 32Bit Limitation Mobo,

its describe on their website that P965 supports 8GB max, whats the use of 8GB if it can't utilize it ? :o

The problem isn't a new one though. Even on old 8xx chipsets you could have >3gb of ram installed and they didn't support 64 bit. :p

Check your BIOS settings, there might be an option called "memory remap" disable or enable it to see if it makes any difference.

Tried a new BIOS?

Chipset drivers won't change anything, they don't control how the O/S sees RAM.

thats weird, if they don't support 64Bit, then whats the use of >3GB Ram ? :o

Got the latest BIOS & I will check the "memory remap" function, thanx for the Tip :)

ASUS P5B has a function as described above, Memory remap, If it's disabled, enable it as it will allow Vista and Windows 7 to see full memory capacity. Alot of people have this problem if you search google.

Check for a BIOS update as well.

It seems that a bunch of motherboard makers are going to have to finally get off their butts and release BIOS updates that properly support 64-bit, virtualization, etc. As I've pointed out in my other threads, my motherboard had an option for virtualization, shows it as enabled, I have a processor that supports it, yet I still can't get it working! Not only that, I also have weird issues with memory mapping overlapping PCI cards when I have 4GB installed.

quick question.. are you running onboard graphics? if so that uses your RAM

EDIT: there is way to much RAM missing for that.. dont worry about this comment

Did you upgrade from another leak? I experienced a similar problem when upgrading 7000->7048->7068. In 7000 it showed correctly 4gb then after 7048 upgrade it showed 3.25 and after all with 7068 it only showed 3gb usable:) After a clean install everything went normal.
