Windows 7 Fonts - I hate them! Requested Assistance

There's a thread about font smoothing on Microsoft's forum that talks about this and shows in detail how to do font substitution of Segoe UI for Tahoma. Tahoma looks better than Segoe UI and a lot better than Calibri (the default font for Microsoft Word) on my CRT monitor, but you could also try the "MS Sans Serif Regular" font that comes with Windows 7 (though it isn't available in Word's drop-down list). This is a bitmap font (and thus has a .fon extension), unlike "Microsoft Sans Serif Regular" and "MS Reference Sans Serif Regular," which also come with Windows 7.

Tahoma looks a little more blurry when you get above Windows' size 9 font for the user interface, though, and larger sizes are inevitable for things like headings on web pages. MS Sans Serif, though, only comes in sizes 8,10,12,14,18, and 24 and if a web page wants to use any size in between, you can get jarringly strange-looking aliased versions that seem like a completely different font, although they do still look pretty sharp.
