What does Windows 7's source code have to do with this application being open or not?
Operating System Open source? heh, If it's not open source then i'm not putting here my passwordz :p

So you never type your passwords while running Windows?

We have a gmail company account at work, --> my mail is "[email protected]".

But it does not work in your application. it only works when i use my private "[email protected]" account.

Is this by design or an issue ?

Considering the name of the program being GMAIL notifier, I do not believe it is meant for anything else but @gmail.com & @googlemail.com. I'm not even sure what you mean by "gmail company account", is that a corporate solution for business mail by google?

There are tons of programs to have your mail checked at work, including outlook (which I personally hate but outlook is always there at the office)..

Feel free to report any bug you might encounter :)

I have GNP running under Windows 7 x64, have followed your instructions concerning taskbar settings, but am unable to see anything to show that GNP is running! No icon anywhere, nothing in the start menu, nothing in the taskbar.

Is that how it should be?

First of all, extract the file "Gmail Notifier Plus.exe" to a steady location (like C:\Programs\GMP). Second, run the file. Third, PIN IT.

It should stay there. If it won't, buy a version of W7 and try again ;)

I believe he's referring to his company's Google Apps account, which this application supports.

I found a workaround for the login issue. This only works for Firefox users.

1. Install the Redirector extension

2. Restart Firefox > Tools > Redirector

3. Add a new profile

Example URL: https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLoginAuth?continue=*

Include URL: https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLoginAuth?continue=*

Exclude URL: <leave it blank>

Redirect: https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox

Pattern Type: Wildcard

Unescaped matches: Unchecked

Take note of the asterisk (*) in the first two URLs above.

I got it working without any saved password in Firefox. To clear them, go to Options > Security > Saved Passwords > Remove All

Let everyone know if it worked or not. Cheers

Yes, thanks. That all works. But I must be missing something, as I fail to see what all the fuss is about.

Comparing it with GDow, yours takes up more room than GDow because the latter is an icon in the tray. And GDow's icon shows the number of emails that have arrived, with options to specify whether already reported but as yet unread emails should be reported again, and whether a popup message should be displayed (with some control over its appearance). Whereas yours doesn't appear to do anything automatically even when email arrives.

What am I missing here?

I'm no expert when it comes to URL security but there's a few things I would like to share:

  • Only completely ignorant users still use Internet Explorer - no offense. You don't need to be an expert to know that IE is the master of security issues. Firefox with the right add-ons or even Chrome are the only way to browse the web securely (even though you're never 100% secure).
  • How on earth would one create a spoofed link someone would click on? I'm not really following you on this one (call me stupid  )...
  • If the maker of this program would have any bad intentions, we would've heard of it by now (thanks, reverse engineering!).
  • You might have a trojan or a keylogger active on your system right now, which would make encryption completely obsolete. Whatever you do on the web, your passwords are never safe.

On the other hand it is of course not very cool to see your password on the screen but is there any alternative to make this program work? What does the official Gmail Notifier do?

With all due respect, your assumptions are dangerously incorrect, and yes, there are proper ways to send passwords securely.

John

I love your app, but for some reason I need to enter my gmail password every time I try to open a message. I checked "Stay signed in" on my gmail, but it doesn't do it. Any idea why?

thanks!

The thing is, when you use Gmail Notifier Plus to go to your mail, you have to enter your password every single time!

Is there any solution?

This seems to be a present problem with the app for loading any account. No fix yet, but the dev is working on it in the limited time he has.

New mail feature in GNP is not working properly. I installed the latest version on W7U 32. Although there is new mail in Gmail, it doesn't show there is new mail on the Taskbar icon and Check For New Mail doesn't do anything when clicked. Hovering over the icon in the Taskbar doesn't show any of the windows or jumplist shots I've seen...basically just the same icon enlarged.

Any ideas?

I like the program, but I've got some suggestions:

- Make the mail previews clearer, the text looks very blurry

- Add an option to select on which browser to open the inbox - I prefer opening GMail in Chrome

- Add an option to move it to the system tray

- Is it possible to remove the GNP element on the ALT-TAB menu ??

Those would make it closer to perfect for me ;)

I think this is a bug :

When inbox button is clicked in thumbnail preview of GNP and a browser window opens , the ARCHIVE button on gmail website doesnt work . Although it says that the mail has been archived but it is still present in the inbox . But when after going back to inbox & then selecting the mail , ARCHIVE is clicked, it works !

BTW it is the best gmail notifier app out there ! Excellent work !!!

BUG (Should be 2 seconds to fix, but its annoying the hell out of me!....)

Seems to not automatically log into accounts when I click inbox (IE8 / Win7 and also using a custom domain gmail account)... the address bar shown is:

https://www.google.com/a/DOMAIN/LoginAction2?continue=http://mail.google.com/a/DOMAIN/%23inbox&service=mail&Email=USERNAME&Passwd=PASSWORD&null=Sign+in

If I proceed to remove the first part of the address so that it is the following address line it logs in fine:

mail.google.com/a/DOMAIN/%23inbox&service=mail&Email=USERNAME&Passwd=PASSWORD&null=Sign+in

    • New Outlook for Windows and Web is getting a simple but very useful email feature by Sayan Sen Recently Microsoft put up a blog post highlighting not one, not two, but 15 total reasons why it feels you should switch to New Outlook already. If that was not enough, the company is bringing another new feature soon that could finally compel you to switch over to the new app. According to a recent update on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the tech giant is making changes to how message sorting works when users choose criteria besides the traditional options of From, Subject, or Date Received. The idea is to provide better options for the attribute being used for sorting and make it easier to understand why messages appear in a particular order. For those unfamiliar Outlook already allows users to sort emails using a variety of fields including sender, category, importance, subject, and message size. Users can access these options through the Filter menu in Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web. With the upcoming change, whenever users sort by a field other than From, Subject, or Date Received, Outlook will automatically display an additional column showing the value being used for the sort. For example, if messages are sorted by Size, a Size column will appear in the message list, allowing users to immediately see the data that determines the ordering of emails. Microsoft believes this should make sorting behavior simpler and reduce the need to manually adjust views or inspect individual messages. Support for sorting by Flag Due Date is also coming and should be especially be helpful for users who rely on email flags to manage follow-up tasks and deadlines. The feature is listed under Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 564803 and is expected to reach general availability beginning later this month itself (June 2026). You can find the entry here. As always though, users should keep in mind that roadmap timelines can change and rollout schedules may occasionally be adjusted by Microsoft. Outlook for Web is also set to receive this feature.
    • That is true. but the liability side of my balance sheet is clean and has been for decades.  Nobody comes a knocking,  calling or writing harassing me for the money i owe them.😎👍  Haven't dealt with "a money changer" in decades and like Jesus it was in Jerusalem.  Don't have much money, but have even less stress in my life.👍👍     P.S.  Sorry, can't walk on water or change it to wine,
    • Maybe ? DLSS Swapper (can swap the DLSS/FSR/XeSS versions) as long as the game (typically online/competitive) doesn't checks for file tampering. You can try different version(s) or update if not the current version of the FSR. https://github.com/beeradmoore/dlss-swapper
