Ouch! That sucks for Aussie gamers. Anyway, I went ahead and pre-ordered it. :ermm: The new Left 4 Dead campaign (Crash Course) brought back some good memories. Now, I'm going to try my best to convince my friends to buy it too.

Crash Course brought back good moemories? Ew, that campaign is terrible. There are tons of great maps out there by modders that blow CC out of the water.

Anyhoo, the demo was great. The frying pan is awesome. The sound it makes is epic :D Here's hoping for a versus hack soon ;)

Just checked it out real quick, definitely some improvements overall for sure, like the melee weapons and the overall gore is just better, but I just could not help thinking to myself this really should have been an expansion. I still love it regardless, I mean Left 4 Dead is afterall Left 4 Dead.

Here is a comparsion version for you all to see if you wish to see how crappy the Australian copy is...

deeeefinitely will be trying to get an import/workaround, it's just not even entertaining knowing what i'd be missing out on

(i also love in the clip they just stop comparing and just play the uncensored copy cause it's actually interesting)

What up with the pipe bomb explosion at 1:52, its like gravity took a break when the bodies were in the air.

Whoever edited that video slowed down that specific part.

But the sounds effects and player movement look normal, even the zombie who ran up on the player was moving at normal speed while the few bodies in the air still made a slow descend to the ground.

I agree that the Australian version sucks but if you want to run a mod with a ridiculous amount of zombies that will stress the hell out of the game and server then it would be a nice option to have the disappearing bodies. Unlimited ammo and f'ing ridiculous amount of non-stop zombies = fun.

No they didn't, if you want to see gore you should look at the bodies after a pipebomb, limbs, heads missing you can even see their spines sticking out of their backs with their head attached to it brutal as hell and it looks brilliant when you burn zombies they actually go black and look burnt to a crisp.

I haven't played the demo yet, but the melee weapons look just too powerful to me. I don't see how that can really be all that fun, just slashing over and over without repercussion.

I got tired of the original Left 4 Dead very quickly... I can only imagine this one will be the same from the looks of it.

If you haven't preordered the game yet, but would like to preload the demo before it goes public later today, hit this link:

steam://preload/590

Thanks. I was waiting for something like this. Been refreshing steam at the L4D2 demo page forever. I did pre order but I did it through work and valve said they are only sending out of Xbox 360 Codes to us. So I said wth ill wait while I play the 360 version. The game is beautiful. I love all the weapons and stuff, but after 15 mins I couldnt help but not play. The controls on the 360 just SUCK compared to playing it on PC.

Especially this game, I cant play on console. Shooters I started on PC, but i love them on consoles now too.

Anyway heres to playing this demo tonight!

I've bought UK versons of games for my Aussie Xbox360 and they work fine (cheaper from UK :p). I have Amped3 and Shadowrun. I even have Crysis Max edition from UK and it works fine on my PC :).

So look around on eBay UK (just make sure it's PAL and not UTSC) for the UK version of L4D2.

I've only just bought the first L4D game. Game game but I sense it gets a bit boring fast.

They are powerful but if a horde is at you and your just swinging it takes a few seconds between swings and the horde will knock you down in like 10 seconds or less on expert. It's not really over powered, just powerful enough to be fun.

And Melee really is a lot of fun. I don't like having to give up pistols for the melee weapons but they are pretty awesome.

Sweet..

Do you reckon that there would be any problems getting it through customs?

No problems at all on my end, it just takes a little longer to arrive. (I'm from around near Rocky so that's makes about 2 weeks max for my games to arrive).

In vs you will probably be yelled at for using melee weapons by your team :p when someone gets smoked or pounced far away you have to take extra time switching to your main gun and if you have a shotgun gl.

Also campaign is the most boring game mode, I wouldn't judge the game too much on a very crippled demo. VS and Scavenge are going to be where its at. I can say this with my experience from the l4d demo it hardly stacked up to the actual game.

What VikerAFK said. The demo is a totally crippled version of the game, they're saving the real good stuff for the actual game. Versus is going to be awesome with more infected types, and I'm much looking forward to variable game routes and the new weather system, the storms look delicious from what I've seen so far .

I too thought that the Melee weapons looked too powerful, but like with the first game, Valve will likely make a lot of "balance changes" early on to fine tune the experience to make it fair for both the infected and the survivors. Internal play-testing is not very good at working these things out, because the pros and amateurs together will find a way to unbalance it.

Apparently, with the Australian version, molotovs don't set infected on fire, and by that I mean there's no fire effect, it still hurts them and makes them play the special animations.

I can image how well that makes vs. play, you won't be able to tell if the other players are actually being hurt.

Wow - that's terrible. I doubt this game will make many sells down there. I know I would buy it being neutered so badly.

    • Louis Rossmann suing Samsung over "990 Pro SSD warranty scam" by Sayan Sen Back in 2023, if you recall, Neowin reviewer Robbie Khan had a dispute with Samsung over his 990 Pro SSD, which was rapidly losing its health. After significant back and forth, the tech giant had finally released firmware to "stop" the issue. Interestingly, its previous flagship at the time, the 980 Pro was also facing problems leading to two consecutive sets of firmware fixes. Three years later, it looks like a similar conflict has now broken out between tech repair entrepreneur YouTuber Louis Rossmann and Samsung, as it has escalated into a threatened lawsuit after the company allegedly refused to appropriately replace a failing 990 Pro SSD that remained under warranty. According to Rossmann, a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe SSD purchased for approximately $330 less than two years ago, began experiencing major hiccups and issues, even though he claims it had been operated under ideal cooling conditions. It was installed in a RAID 1 array and cooled by a heatsink and dual high-speed fans. However the drive reportedly started dropping out of the array, exhibiting controller-level failures that eventually became not useable in any meaningful way. Rossmann said Samsung’s support process was marked by delays and confusion from the very start. After initially contacting the wrong regional support channel, he was redirected to Samsung’s memory support division where he submitted detailed diagnostics, logs, and proof of purchase. Rossmann runs a repair company and owns an ACE Lab PC-3000 machine, which is a professional-grade data recovery equipment. As such, he had been confident in his diagnostics. Samsung even seemingly acknowledged that later. Regardless, Rossmann claims that his initial support ticket was automatically closed before a full 24-hour response window had elapsed, forcing him to reopen the case and resubmit documentation. The controversy however intensified further from here after Samsung accepted the drive for warranty evaluation but later returned it with a repair report stating that the drive had passed its testing and that the SSD had been verified as functional. Rossmann strongly disputed those claims citing that his own independent testing on PC-3000 showed write speeds reducing to as low as 40–60 MB/s before the drive failed entirely. Samsung subsequently informed him that the SSD had been reset and reflashed, passing internal stress tests. However, the company also stated that replacement units were unavailable due to an industry-wide memory shortage and suggested that a refund process could be initiated if further testing confirmed the fault. Thus, to settle, the company offered a refund of $330, the amount that was initially paid by him to make the purchase. Here, Rossmann pointed out the seeming hypocrisy of the tech giant as in how no Samsung drive was apparently allocated for warranty replacements, but they were abundantly available for retail sales especially when using business accounts. As you can see, Rossmann is indeed right, there are Samsung 990 Pro 4TB SSDs on Amazon currently for $950 (shipped and sold by first-party Amazon US itself), and they are also available on Samsung's own store too, albeit for an even higher price of $1100. Thus Rossmann argues that Samsung’s inability or unwillingness to provide a replacement while the same model remains available for purchase at significantly higher market prices reflects a failure to honor its warranty obligations. He has issued a formal 60-day notice and says he intends to file suit in Texas small claims court, asserting that companies should face greater costs for denying legitimate warranty claims than for fulfilling them. • Was it too much to ask to show the icon in this article?
    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use this unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet officially and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
