The Patri0t
I have the BETA version installed, not the RC version. No solution for that Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/791232-7264-in-the-wild/page/6/#findComment-591229872 Share on other sites
funkyblue
I do wonder why MS bothered deactivating the beta version. If people wanna use it till Windows 7 RTM's why not? I just never got around to a later build and could not be bothered when it was working just fine. br0adband
Because it's broken, that's why. :) It has bugs that have long since been quashed, new features that have been added, cool stuff, and performance is drastically improved in almost all ways. They don't want people sending in Feedback or even bothering them asking questions or expecting support from such old code - and whether or not you specifically would ever call them or contact them is irrelevant: Windows is written for the lowest common denominator, and that means everyone so everyone gets stuck with the same situation. I mean really... seems a bit pointless to stick with very old code (it's a few months, sure, but in terms of builds, it's ancient history now). Some people... JoseyWales
Is there a way to stop the beta version expiring? It's on my laptop and I don't want to have to reinstall, if Win7 goes RTM next weekend... all you have to do is get an rc build and do an upgrade. no need to go hacking.. It will take less than an hour to do and everything will be the same for you.. then you will be good untill may of 10... same key will work for you also.. FaiKee
On a blog, some folks have mentioned that July 10th is set for final gold build and July 13th the RTM so might not appear in the IT PRO Beta Class. RTM candidate build will be seen I guess. Thanks for that, I just returned from China. If your info is correct then I doubt on the Neowin New's statement that the RTM would be available to MSDN etc. The RC was compiled on Apr. 21, available to MS partner downloads on Apr. 30, but was leaked on Apr. 24. Unless I miss something here, or MS's procedure on RTM is completely different from RC, I couldn't see how it could happen if RTM on Jul. 13, and also available for downloads also on Jul. 13. :o ~~~~~~ btw, I also noticed on WZOR there's a statement that the 7300RTM and win8-7312 was fake....all I could say is : "Vow!! That was warp-speed fast, WZOR really knows how to amaze the world" 1. WZOR had been very slow (lately) in reporting things, 7266 was known for almost a week, and 7268 was known about 3 days ago, WZOR reported these very late. But WZOR "confirmed" the "fakes" after 12 hours!! 2. I couldn't remember if WZOR had commented on fake leaks before, just last week there were about 3 to 4 fake leaks or screen-shots, WZOR mentioned none, 2 days ago the 7265 had raised some excitements in 7F, nothing on WZOR, then suddenly they made this statement on 7300 & win8?? Last night I noticed there was another "7267 leak", it's not clarified yet, wonder if WZOR would make another fast and confirmed statement on that lol?? They said it was fake because the only reason that 7264 leaked was the fact that it was distributed to top 18 microsoft partners. Thanks for the correction, I should have said Fast & Special statement on 7300&win8. That explaination actually raised more Q than A, WZOR had not explained why a certain build would be leaked before, what's more special and awkward is that 7264 was simply not a WZOR leak at all. I am still watching on WZOR and hope to see a Fast & Special statement on 7267 lol. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/791232-7264-in-the-wild/page/6/#findComment-591232718 Share on other sites

What they actually said is that by the 10th of july a number of candidates for rtm should be determined. The voting to decide which of these latest candidates will become the build that will ultimately be recompiled into winmain as rtm will take place from 13/14th to 24th, by which time it will be distributed on connect. Furthermore they suggest a possibility of one of these candidates (that will be compiled by/on the 10th of july) being distributed to TAP. (i guess if this turns out true we could expect another leak before rtm). P.S. Some of what they (wzor) write can be pretty confusing to say the least. Gary2MBz
Although this may be unrelated, I noticed on both flavors and all SKUs of 7100 there is a graphical bug for the Minimize/Maximize/Close buttons when you hover and it shows the caption. The caption is in the style of XP although all other caption graphics are in the Vista style. I took this shot in Firefox 3.5 but it happens to any other program including Windows Explorer as well, any news if it is fixed in these newer leaked builds? M0rpheus
Well that bug when you open a devices properties in Device Manager and hover over the close button, causing the button to flash is STILL in 7264. An RTM candidate and they still haven't fixed a UI bug like that? An RTM candidate and they still haven't fixed a UI bug like that? well there are more than enough UI bugs left. Also take a look at the standart image display application (not photogallery!)...notice the little icons in the drop down menus... their background is not transparent..thus making it look very ugly and incomplete. An RTM candidate and they still haven't fixed a UI bug like that? Never noticed this one as I don't consider it a big deal (how often do you sit there hovering your mouse over the damned Close gadget?). Anyway, after loading up Process Monitor one thing needs to be mentioned: when the Device Manager dialogue is open, the devices listed are actively being polled - that's one reason that's happening. I can't speak for this occurring in other versions of Windows as I don't have any installed anymore - I'm a solid convert to Windows 7 since pretty much last August. That could be something altered because of Windows 7, how it polls the devices on the list, who knows. Is it really worthy of such attention? :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/791232-7264-in-the-wild/page/6/#findComment-591237902 Share on other sites
PGHammer
Why are people still using the BETA? Like said above its old! Especially considering the RC has been generally available (completely aside from leakage of later builds) and the RC doesn't croak for (at most) six months AFTER the first RTM copies hit *retail*, not Connect (according to Microsoft itself), not to mention that the RC is generally at least as stable usage-wise as Vista with SP1 (if not SP2) or any flavor of XP. An RTM candidate and they still haven't fixed a UI bug like that? Man, I opened up Device Manager and hovered over the close button and it didn't flash.. ..although I still have the internet connection dropping, or getting REALLY slow, after standby. Sometimes my mouse will start "working" (circular Aero thingie) for no reason for about 3 seconds, but the computer is still usable, so no worries really. One of my drives powers down quite often (non-USB/connected via SATA) and when trying to access it, there is 5 - 8 second delay - this is really annoying but still tolerable.
