Was anyone listening to BBC Radio Five Live Sports Extra at around 16.35 today? It all went quiet on the commentary front, with just the crowd being heard in the background. Then suddenly you hear someone saying "Hello?" and then a man moaning as if he was crying like a kid. Was very weird indeed! They've played a message about having problems bringing the current program and then switched to a repeat interview between Simon Mayo and Robbie Coltrane.

Radio 5 Live commentator Nigel Adderley collapses on air during Premier League broadcast

Footie commentator Nigel Adderley was recovering last night after collapsing in the middle of a live broadcast.

The Radio 5 Live man fell ill as he covered West Ham's Premier League home game against Fulham for the station's Sport Extra digital channel.

Shocked listeners could only hear crowd noises, someone groaning, then a voice pleading for help.

Adderley was treated by St John's Ambulance medics at Upton Park before being taken to hospital.

Producers switched to an old interview featuring comedian Robbie Coltrane before playing a looped message citing "technical problems".

A later announcement on 5 Live's 606 phone-in said Adderley, 37, had suffered a "bad turn" and was recovering.

A bbc spokeswoman said: "Nigel was taken ill while on air.

"He had to have medical attention so the broadcast was stopped and replaced with a backing loop. It is not our policy to discuss the specific details of medical conditions." On the West Ham supporters' website, Knees Up Mother Brown, one fan described the dramatic scene.

Mattjp wrote: "I was sitting right next to them in the Doc Martens Upper. People around him were worried it was a heart attack.

"Stewards got him lying down near the stairwell and a woman came from the crowd to help out.

"Eventually he sat up and was led away by paramedics.

"Looked like a lucky escape - I feared the worst when it first happened. Hope he's well."

Pompey Take-Over Complete!

Ali Al-Faraj has completed his takeover at Portsmouth after a company under his ownership bought a 90 per cent share in the Premier League club.

Former Pompey owner Sulaiman Al-Fahim had been holding talks with legal representatives of the Saudi-Arabian billionaire in London over the past couple of days and a deal has now been agreed.

Sky Sports News broke the story that a conclusion had been reached and Pompey have confirmed that Al-Faraj's company, Falcondrone Limited, now holds a 90% majority share in the Fratton Park club.

Al-Fahim will keep a 10% share and will move to a role as a non-executive chairman, while Peter Storrie will remain as chief executive officer.

A statement on Portsmouth's official website said: "Sulaiman Al-Fahim, the owner of Portsmouth football club, has sold the majority - 90 per cent - of the club to Falcondrone Limited, a company owned by Saudi Arabian businessman Mr Ali Al-Faraj."

A Pompey spokesman quoted on the club's website said: "The takeover will ensure Portsmouth football club's future is safe and will bring financial stability.

"Once the takeover is complete the club will undergo refinancing in order to grow and develop every part of the business.

"Mr Al-Faraj is very supportive of the club's plans for a new training ground and the development of Fratton Park."

The agreement brings to an end a dramatic couple of months for Premier League strugglers Pompey, who sit bottom of the table and only recorded their first win of the season when defeating Wolves at the weekend.

Al-Fahim bought Portsmouth in August, but he failed to produce the neccesary funds to run the club and players and executives did not receive their salaries last week, while the Dubai-based businessman was also rushed to hospital.

He was therefore eager to sell after just six weeks and an arrangement has now been struck with Al-Faraj, although the amounts of money have not yet been revealed.

Al-Faraj had already passed the Premier League's fit and proper persons test after a failed attempt to buy Portsmouth as part of a consortium involving Storrie in the summer, which increased the speed of the takeover bid.

Former Pompey owner Sasha Gaydamak, who still owns land surrounding Fratton Park, had also given his required backing to the billionaire's impending arrival earlier on Monday.

Al-Faraj, 40, is understood to be keen to keep a low profile, but he is passionate about Portsmouth and appears prepared to invest heavily in the South Coast club.

Mark Jacob, who is Al-Faraj's lawyer and will also be on Pompey's board, told Sky Sports News on Monday night: "He is absolutely delighted and is looking forward to working with the team, players and, more importantly, the supporters to help put Portsmouth back on the footballing map.

"He is a huge supporter of the English Premiership. He sees a great opportunity with regards to Portsmouth and is just delighted to get involved."

When asked how Al-Faraj will differ to Al-Fahim, he said: "Wait and see."

Jacob also expects the club's players and executives to be paid on Tuesday, adding: "Various things are in place that have to be dealt with over the next couple of days.

"I certainly anticipate that players will get their salaries tomorrow."

Thats a new one for me! If so I wonder who owns the stadium or the ground it sits on...

But I think it's sort of decent for Al Fahim to cut back to 10% but not sure about this non-executive chairman postion, probably entails no power but the right to look at everything.

As for the cost of this new takeover, it's probably very little, it's most likely just having the bottle to take on the debt.

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has defended the investment levels of the current regime and suggested fans should look to manager Rafael Benitez, rather than the club's owners, if the Reds are failing to progress.

Last weekend's 2-0 loss at Chelsea was the Reds' third defeat of the campaign - more than they suffered in the whole of last season - while they also lost against Fiorentina in the Champions League last week.

But Gillett has defended the record of himself and co-owner Tom Hicks in reports in the Times and the Daily Telegraph on Tuesday and believes the pair have done more than their rivals to improve the financial footing of their club.

"We have invested more money than our competitors, in keeping with the history of the club," Gillett is quoted as telling a representative of the fans' group Spirit of Shankly prior to Liverpool's 6-1 win over Hull last week.

"In the last 18 months, we have invested ?128m on top of what has come in. That means it should be getting better.

"Now if it's not getting better, it's not Gillett and Hicks, it's the manager, it's the scouting. You have to make sure you balance out your analysis. There was plenty of money, so if you have any complaints, take a look at the ins and outs."

It's quiet clear that our owners are just a bunch of useless w***ers that are having a good time at the expense of the club. In my eyes, Rafa is already a legend for managing to take the 2005 champions league with the squad that he had at the time. I, hopefully like most Liverpool fans blame the owners and Liverpool fans won't tolerate failure for a lot longer.

Rafa is a good manager, and I feel there will be outcry if he is forced out by the incompetence of the owners, however I can see him quitting if things carry on as they are.

Also, the fact that they are so willing to openly attack the club's manager is both extremely unprofessional, and frankly just disgusting.

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has returned to Portsmouth as their new director of football.

The 54-year-old Israeli was technical director at Fratton Park from June 2006 to July 2007, before leaving to become director of football at Chelsea.

He subsequently succeeded Jose Mourinho as manager at Stamford Bridge before being sacked in May 2008.

It is the first significant move at Portsmouth since Ali Al Faraj completed his 90% buy-out of the club this week.

Avram Grant is to help Paul Hart manage the squad due to a lack of Assistant manager.

Harry Redknap comes back as manager.

I don't think he did such a bad job at Chelsea, I just feel he wasn't given enough to succeed. Hell for all his wonderment, Mourinho never got a Chelski win over us in the CL, but grant managed it. I don't consider 2nd in the league and a CL final position much of a failure considering how strong man united where that season.
