Good news for Console guys/boys/whatever :p

DiRT 2 demo

The DiRT 2 demo is coming out in North America on Xbox 360 20th August and Playstation 3 27th August and the Rest of the World on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 20th August.

We’re running a Competition where we’ve uploaded a video on our YouTube DiRT 2 Playlist called DiRT 2 Demo Lap Time Competition where the Codemasters Development Team sets what we consider to be a time which will take real skill to beat on the Morocco Trailblazer track featured in the upcoming demo. The ten fastest times set will win some awesome prizes, even if our lap time is not beaten.

The fastest lap time will win a pair of extremely limited edition DC DiRT 2 shoes plus a Codemasters Goodie Bag! 2nd to 10th will each win a Codemasters Goodie Bag!

To enter your best lap time you’ll need to take a picture of your lap time (a picture off your screen will do) and upload it to our DiRT 2 Facebook Page on the wall.

Entries are restricted to one entry per person.

Good luck!

no nooz on PC Demo :/

in that video, that dev is cheating :p

look how he 'cuts corners' :p

So with my GTX 280, I won't see any benefit using DX11 or any special effects correct? I just don't see why they are developing for DX11 if the cards will just be released by when it comes out for PC. Why not develop for some DX10 effects that more people can actually notice?

Not sure I like the controls at all :/ Steering is definitely more responsive, but the slides are just ridiculous, it's impossible to control them at high speed, then the slightest touch of the stick throws your car.

On the upside everything else looks great, there's only two events in the demo, neither of them are rally stages. You can play Land Rush and of course the Trailblazer event mentioned above.

It might just take some getting used to, but on first impressions I prefer DiRT 1's controls..

they adjusted the brakes to be less responsive, but increased steering response? :D

did you try adjusting steering response in game menu?

post some screens :p

Can't post screens, I'm playing the demo on my 360.

Not adjusted the settings, and shouldn't have to, they won't drastically feel different or change much.

It feels like they've taken the steering from GRiD and then toned it down, rather than the quote they made of recreating it from scratch.

i know that :D

so its like nfs most wanted? :D

how does the car feel?

does it have weight?

hows the damage?

does the handbrake still lock all wheels (like dirt1)?

Damage is great, weight could be ok it's hard to judge with the controls and the wheels pretty much lock despite the animation of the car still showing them turning. If you drive in a straight line and use the handbrake it will cause you to spin off the road.

I'll try recording a video with webcam and uploading it for you.

I checked the options and there isn't a way to alter the steering either, you can reassign controls like which trigger is for accelerating and what not, but nothing for responsiveness etc.

Hate the demo. Just doesn't feel right, maybe it's the feedback on the controller that's all wrong, I dunno, but it feels like driving on less slippery ice rather than rough dirt. Who's idea was it to put horns in multiplayer as well? And holding slides is just too difficult without slowing down to a crawl first. I wasn't going to buy the game anyway but meh :p

Glad I'm not the only one then!

And that is the major fault here, if you want to hold a slide around a long bend then you're gonna lose the control and either go way off the road and lose time or hit something.

It's like they've gone from the opposite side of the scale in Dirt 1 which had tight controls, and now they are too loose.

Oh there's plenty of power sliding...too much.

Not tried the MP, got stuff to do today I shouldn't even by playing the SP portions lol.

@Victor, the menu in Dirt 1 is better. Dirt 2's is nice but it takes far too long to switch between all the menus along with the loading.

    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
    • Just saw a news report of a Waymo driving into a flooded road.
    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. SF935 Autotype: Specifying '\v{name}' in the autotype text will cause the corresponding value to be autotyped. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
