houlty
a friend was telling me that they've dumbed down damage on DiRT2, is this true?
+Mystic MVC Posted August 19, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 19, 2009 It sure looks like it. Watch the gameplay video on the last page and when the guy wrecks, it appears like there is no damage at all to the car which is pretty sad because damage in the previous game was a lot of fun. +Mystic MVC Posted August 20, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 20, 2009 So with my GTX 280, I won't see any benefit using DX11 or any special effects correct? I just don't see why they are developing for DX11 if the cards will just be released by when it comes out for PC. Why not develop for some DX10 effects that more people can actually notice? DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2009 Just downloading the demo now, nice and fast, especially with all the kiddies back to school :D
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2009 Not sure I like the controls at all :/ Steering is definitely more responsive, but the slides are just ridiculous, it's impossible to control them at high speed, then the slightest touch of the stick throws your car. On the upside everything else looks great, there's only two events in the demo, neither of them are rally stages. You can play Land Rush and of course the Trailblazer event mentioned above. It might just take some getting used to, but on first impressions I prefer DiRT 1's controls..

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2009 Can't post screens, I'm playing the demo on my 360. Not adjusted the settings, and shouldn't have to, they won't drastically feel different or change much. It feels like they've taken the steering from GRiD and then toned it down, rather than the quote they made of recreating it from scratch.
Victor Rambo
DiRT was easy when played in cockpit view. :D @Unky Munky: Ask somebody in your house to capture screenshots for you. :p
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2009 I'm guessing you guys want me to take photos, not screenshots ?:p Screenshots require a capture card and I don't have one.

Victor Rambo
@Munky: Whats taking you so long to capture dirt2 demo photos? :shifty:
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2009 Damage is great, weight could be ok it's hard to judge with the controls and the wheels pretty much lock despite the animation of the car still showing them turning. If you drive in a straight line and use the handbrake it will cause you to spin off the road. I'll try recording a video with webcam and uploading it for you. I checked the options and there isn't a way to alter the steering either, you can reassign controls like which trigger is for accelerating and what not, but nothing for responsiveness etc.
what
Hate the demo. Just doesn't feel right, maybe it's the feedback on the controller that's all wrong, I dunno, but it feels like driving on less slippery ice rather than rough dirt. Who's idea was it to put horns in multiplayer as well? And holding slides is just too difficult without slowing down to a crawl first. I wasn't going to buy the game anyway but meh :p
san.W10
cant we use the analog sticks for both steering & throttle? like all nfs, tdu...
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2009 Glad I'm not the only one then! And that is the major fault here, if you want to hold a slide around a long bend then you're gonna lose the control and either go way off the road and lose time or hit something. It's like they've gone from the opposite side of the scale in Dirt 1 which had tight controls, and now they are too loose.

san.W10
the guys at codeM forums are all praising :D Whooooooo, finally I can powerslide, also noted impressive graphics, looking good for the finished article http://community.codemasters.com/forum/sho...mp;postcount=10 btw, tried multiplayer ? what
How is the menu? awesome like dirt1? lol It's overdone imo. There are essentially two main menus and you navigate by walking around your caravan/outside. I like the loading screens though.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2009 Oh there's plenty of power sliding...too much. Not tried the MP, got stuff to do today I shouldn't even by playing the SP portions lol. @Victor, the menu in Dirt 1 is better. Dirt 2's is nice but it takes far too long to switch between all the menus along with the loading.
