Nero Burning Rom Goes Free!

Recommended Posts

Remember when Easy CD Creator was the great burning program to have, until it became bloated and ridiculous. Then Nero came along with it's lightweight program and put it to shame. Funny how they followed down the same road and also became bloated and horrible; now there are many lightweight and free burning programs that have relegated Nero to the junk pile. I don't think Ahead could pay people to use Nero these days.

Maybe it's Cygwin? http://www.cygwin.com/

Just mentioned the KDE for Windows site as it provides k3b for use in Windows.

It's not either, these were actually Linux apps that were reprogrammed to run in Windows natively.

Why bother with Nero when you have ImgBurn or InfraRecorder? They have always been free (and not crippled or full of bloatware)!

Here's a trick

Download the free version, start to install, get the cd-key.

Back out of the install (don't install)

Grab the most current "update" aka the full file from there site:

Install, erase the auto generated "trial" key, and past in the key from the free version.

Instant up-to-date version, plus some additional free stuff that doesn't show up on the "free version" aka burn audio cd.

Most other features are still disabled.

People talk about Nero being bloated, but it's not just a burning program and most of what's included is very useful. Tools for video editing, DVD and Blu-Ray disc creation (menus + more), high quality MPEG-4 AVC encoding, etc. Nero Burning ROM itself is a inferior burning program and has been barebones for along time.

Meh, Nero is great as an app, but far to bloated. Someone I know made me a portable version out of his nero though, and its freaking awesome! Yeah its 70mb, but with no install, it's the way to go. So for those that dislike Nero, you should see about making yours portable.
