The Walking Dead (Season 2)

That'd be sweet if they got King to write an episode. I kinda like how they are bringing on diff people to direct/write episodes. I hope the story flows well and isn't all over the place. A show like this needs a proper arc, can't be just mayhem each episode, or maybe it can? I dunno wtf I'm talking about

Need to get some more hardbacks in to read. Book One is really good. It's nice to see how close the TV/comics were sticking closely for a while at least.

o.O What? They are really nothing alike. They leave the original campsite very quickly in the comic, and it took them the whole season in the series. Just for example.

Will it go beyond season 2 or will that likely cover the entire graphic novel? I love this show and can't wait for more. To think I used to knock T.V....Then I was introduced to F/X, AMC, HBO and Showtime shows lol.

there's budget cuts for this season so it may not go on if it continues to be costly

God, I hope no, this is really the best series I have seen for quite some time, it would be silly for them to make it short as I'm sure they will recover all their money and lots more with this show.

Slightly off-topic, but:

Darabont wasn't alone in his fears, with Boardwalk Empire producer Terence Winter saying that his hit HBO series was also looking at budget cuts.

Dammit, that's two shows that I enjoy looking at budget cuts! The producers are fools, fools I tell you!

AMC has released the first shot from the second season of The Walking Dead.

Showrunner Frank Darabont revealed that he was thrilled to return to the series, stating that he believes the second run of episodes will be "great".

"At this moment, I'm standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew," Darabont said.

He continued: "Across the board, there are none better. It's great to be shooting again. I think we've embarked on a great season."

The Walking Dead Casts Greene Family

This is big news for The Walking Dead fans. The critically acclaimed AMC series has just cast two hugely popular characters from the graphic novels on which the show is based.

Early into the new season, which returns in October just in time for Halloween, Rick Grimes and our brave band of survivors will encounter a farming family that has been ravaged by zombies. Scott Wilson (In Cold Blood, Monster, Junebug) will play Hershel Greene. "He is the patriarch of the family," says executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. "He's a veterinarian with a great sense of humanity and a very unique take on the Walkers." Expect Hershel to endure great heartache as "not everyone in his family survives." Scott was chosen, says Hurd, because of his "tremendous scope and gravitas."

Farmer's daughter Maggie is among Hershel's fortunate few children who survive the zombie plague. "She's in her twenties and is a survivor who ends up as a romantic interest for Glenn (Steven Yuen)," says Hurd. With sci-fi vet Lauren Cohan (Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, and Chuck) cast in the role, Hurd says "Steven's very excited!"

Scott and Lauren join previously announced addition Pruitt Taylor Vince (Deadwood, The Mentalist) as the Greene's ranch hand, Otis.

    • Google Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer is leaving for OpenAI by Pradeep Viswanathan Noam Shazeer is best known as one of the co-authors of the 2017 “Attention Is All You Need” paper, which introduced the Transformer architecture that now powers most large language models. He also worked on several major Google AI projects, including LaMDA, before leaving the company in 2021 to co-found Character.AI. He also authored the Sparsely-gated Mixture of Experts (2016) paper, which is popular among the AI community. After falling behind OpenAI and Anthropic a couple of years ago, Google brought Shazeer back in 2024 as part of a major deal with Character.AI. Through this deal, along with Noam, several other researchers returned to Google DeepMind. More recently, he was a vice president of engineering at Google and a technical co-lead for Gemini. Today, Noam Shazeer announced on X that he is leaving Google and joining OpenAI. In his post, Shazeer said it was a difficult decision to move on, adding that he was proud of the Google team and what it had built together. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman welcomed the move with a post of his own, saying Shazeer was one of the people he had most wanted to work with since OpenAI’s early days. Google has made strong progress with Gemini over the past year, closing the gap with OpenAI in several areas. But losing Noam Shazeer is a major talent setback for them, especially after bringing him back less than two years ago by spending a fortune. For OpenAI, the hire adds one of the industry’s most experienced language model researchers to a team that is already pushing ahead with ChatGPT, Codex, and its next generation of frontier models.
