Windows 7 Trial now available

Recommended Posts

I just saw this when I was searching through Technet. There now is an actual trial version available here. Note that this is the Enterprise edition, which is similar to Ultimate but has some additional features that most home users won't probably need. Still, if you want an actual trial straight from Microsoft then the wait is apparently over.

Edited due to the error Lord Ba'al pointed out :p

You have 10 days to activate the product. If not activated within 10 days, the system will shut down once every hour until activated. Unsure on how to activate?

I would pass if I had a need for it.

what are you talking about ?

it is 90 day trial and after that if you wish to buy it later you would have to reinstall ,since the release is going to expire

according to the windows team blog via download squad Microsoft is offering up a free 90day free trial of Windows 7 enterprise edition. The download is for the final RTM version and enterprise is only available to software assurance customers only making this good for collectors.

Still not sure whether or not Windows 7 is a good fit for your workplace? Missed out on the RC download and wish you had something you could evaluate? You're in luck. Microsoft has made a 90-day trial download of Windows 7 Enterprise available. You can download the ISO image now. This is the RTM version, not the RC. What you're downloading is the same OS that will be available for purchase in a couple of months. Both the 32 and 64-bit versions are available, and you don't have to be a member of TechNet, MSDN, the Partner Program, or have a Software Assurance agreement.

and yeah its not the '30 day trial' (which isnt a trial at all) so this passes all forum rules :)

Awesome, this will last me until October 22nd.

And I don't think they will need your credit card unless it asks you during the install which is doubtful. I started the download and they just wanted some basic information.

You know this kind of makes you wonder, why doesn't Microsoft just allow users to download the final version for consumers that already preordered the download version. I mean all the code is in place.

I wouldn't call it a "free trial" as Microsoft doesn't offer free trials for their software, this is an extended evaluation period.

funny ,it is even said in technet 'trial',and it is not like you have to pay anything to get it

doesn't require any serial key so I am guessing that slmgr -rearm won't work.

If it does, then it is brilliant as one could use it for 90+90=180 days.

i dont think slmgr would work

since this build is intend for evaluation and to die after spec time

Huh? Not really sure what kind of semantic vortex you're trying to create here, but if this isn't a "free trial," then perhaps you should have a look at this page, which allows you to download a "Free Trial" of Microsoft Office 2007 products.

    • Ladybird Browser is no longer accepting outside contributions thanks to AI by David Uzondu The Ladybird Browser Project has announced it will no longer accept public pull requests and will limit changes to those made by its maintainers as it works towards its first alpha release. According to Ladybird's creator Andreas Kling, this is "not a change we make lightly," but the rapid shift in AI capabilities forced their hand. Previously, a massive PR implied that the person behind it put a lot of care into the code and is ready to "answer for the consequences." Now with AI, anyone can generate a PR without even understanding the bug fix or feature they want merged. The blog post goes on to say that the team is closing all open public pull requests immediately, and that maintainers will not treat external forks as a review queue for upstream Ladybird. Instead, the team wants outside contributors to focus on reporting bugs and running tests. Kling started Ladybird back in 2019 as LibHTML, a simple HTML viewer for his hobby operating system, SerenityOS, but by September 2022, it had turned into a full-fledged browser project. What sets Ladybird apart from the likes of Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox is its totally independent engine, which does not rely on pre-existing codebases. The project maintains a strict policy against default search engine deals or user data monetization, keeping development funded entirely by donations and sponsorships. Generative AI is forcing open source project maintainers to rethink how they handle public code contributions (and the whole open-source thing in general). One month ago, a leak about the National Health Service (NHS) suggested the organization was planning to take all of its public repositories private ahead of a May 11 deadline, thanks to Mythos (an AI model that Anthropic believes is too dangerous to be released to the public) and its ability to find and write exploits for zero-day vulnerabilities. Thankfully, the Government Digital Service (GDS) issued a counter-report titled "AI, open code and vulnerability risk in the public sector" that stopped the shutdown by pointing out that hiding code does not improve security.

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
