Latest PlayStation 3 Firmware Update Thread *V2*

Recommended Posts

Downloaded and installed really fast. Where is the Facebook app?

i just got the 3.40 update this morning and i would like to know where this facebook app is also

It's not on the PS3 itself, it's an app they have launched on the Facebook website

http://apps.facebook.com/playstation.

Just downloaded, they fixed the leap year bug

PlayStation Plus Compatibility

The PlayStation Plus premium service gives paying members free game downloads, access to special avatars and themes, and other bonuses. See this story for details. The 3.4 update makes your PS3 compatible with PS Plus. To actually become a PS Plus member, you'll need to purchase membership from the PlayStation Store. Members will see the PlayStation Plus icon, a yellow plus symbol, next to their avatar.

Photo Gallery Update

Your PS3 photo gallery will now have a "PlayStation Network Area." Use this to access your online Picassa and Facebook photo albums. You can also upload pictures directly to these services, create and edit albums, post comments on pictures, and share newly created albums with your PlayStation Network friends. To delete comments, you'll have to access the web versions of Facebook and Picassa directly.

Video Edit and Upload

The video section of your XMB will now have access to an option for editing and uploading videos from your hard disc to Facebook and Youtube. Edit functionality lets you ad subtitles and cut out scenes. The functionality will only work for videos that were saved to your PS3 following the 3.4 update. Expectedly, it will not work on copy protected videos.

Settings

The settings section of your XMB will now include options for "Deep Color Output (HDMI)" and, for PS Plus members, auto download. The base time for automatic power off will be changed to 2 hours.

Photo

The photo section of the XMB will now let you print and delete pictures.

Friend

When selecting a friend, the friend's trophy level will be displayed.

PS Store Ratings

You'll be able to rate product on the PlayStation Store with a five star rating system.

Time bug fix

The update fixes a leap year bug with the PS3's clock.

Also video uploading test

Uploaded a PS3 edited video on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfRxkp1GuHc

You can:

- Add text (see video for more)

- Cut A-B style (no paste, just cut)

- Add music (from a selected collection of tracks. Not your own)

- Change playback speed of A-B sections.

- Save to HDD or publish on youtube or facebook.

Videos downloaded from the Store do not work

Videos recorded from game (PJ Shooter) do not work

Videos exported from EyeCreate do not work (wtf?)

I did this with a mp4 file.

So much for fixing the leap year bug in March ;)

At least it's done now.

Not sure they ever said they 'fixed' it just that the problem would be 'resolved' the following day. As you say though, least it's done and dusted now!

Nah they did, I remember having a good chuckle at it here on NW :p

"We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29th to March 1st (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally. If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet."

They resolved it so that everyone's PS3 would work again in the meantime, however the internal fix was on a timebomb till the next leap year, so it's not like it was urgent :p

That's my point, they didn't resolve anything. They just said "we're working on it" while they waited for the clock to run out. The only thing that "fixed it" was the clock/calendar turning 12am/2nd March

Then they were like "yeah, we fixed it, pat us on the back"

Anyway water under the bridge n all that jazz.

Will it work next leap year?

LOL...I was just kidding. But, yes....I do need to upgrade to a PS3 Slim at some point here. Well, I don't NEED to, but I WANT to :)

well that was just like me and the 360S. But PS3 wise.. it's been running really well so far. I don't really see a point of upgrading.. sure it has a different size to it.. but it's still the same. The PS3S has no more gloss on it.. so owning both consoles won't really match up. Mine now matches up now :D

    • Threads scales past half a billion users, brings deeper community and feed controls by Fiza Ali Meta has announced Threads crossing a major milestone of 500 million monthly active users. And, at the heart of this growth sits something simple: communities. From books to basketball, parenting to music, Threads says its rise has been powered by people clustering around shared interests and, in turn, giving the platform its identity. In response, the platform is expanding its Communities feature beyond beta and introducing a set of new tools designed to make participation easier and more engaging. A redesigned Communities Hub will now appear in the main navigation menu, allowing users to jump between groups without leaving their feed. Each community will also receive a distinct Community Icon, giving them clearer visual identity and making them easier to recognise across the platform. Then there’s Community Progress, which is a kind of live gauge showing how close a topic is to becoming a full-fledged community, alongside guidance on how users can contribute to its development. In addition, Meta is also expanding its Community Champions programme, recognising more users who actively contribute to community engagement. And then things go more local; Local Communities is already available in 100 countries, including North America, South America, Asia, and Europe but are now rolling out with native-language tags starting in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. The platform is also expanding Live Chats to more communities in the coming weeks, adding features such as co-hosting and the ability to quote moments directly into users’ feeds. Beyond communities, Meta is tightening the loop between users and their feeds. Earlier this year came "Dear Algo," a feature that lets people tell Threads what they want more or less of. Now it’s being paired with a new tool, "Your Algo." It allows people to adjust how frequently certain topics appear, with options lasting one, three, or seven days. Meta says these preferences remain private and can be managed alongside “Dear Algo” in a unified settings hub. The rollout begins in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Finally, the company says these changes are part of an ongoing effort to refine Threads based on user feedback and that further updates will continue as the platform evolves.
    • You pay just $100 per TB with this rare 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD deal by Sayan Sen SSDs and GPUs are incredibly hard to get nowadays due to high pricing. Discounts are quite rare which is why we report on them as soon as we spot a good deal. For example AMD's new 9070 GRE was finally up for sale at a very good price of just $500 thanks to a special coupon. Sadly that deal is gone but if you happen to be looking for a 4TB NVMe SSD and can spend around $400 there is a really good offer on sale that you should not miss out on as TeamGroup's 4TB G50 model is on sale for that that price which means you are only paying $100 per TB, a very good deal in the current market (purchase link under the specs table down below). The TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe SSD is a PCIe Gen4 drive and as such it promises to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, helping accelerate game loading, file transfers, and everyday computing tasks. Since this is a 4TB drive you can use it for a gaming library to take advantage of things like DirectStorage. The SSD features an InnoGrit controller and SLC caching technology to support consistent performance. An ultra-thin, patented graphene heatsink is included to aid in heat dissipation. Get it at the link below: Team Group T-FORCE G50 4TB Internal SSD (TM8FFE004T0C129): $449.99 + $50 off w/ promo code SSF69668, limited offer => $39.99 (Sold and Shipped by Newegg US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified. • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.
