Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver have racked up 1,480,980 sales between them on their opening weekend in Japan, Famitsu reports.

Shortages are being reported, so expect some monster (hunting) figures when the Japanese charts hit later this week.

ftw :p

amiright Corris!? Yeaaaaah

Even a revamped old Pokemon game still sells that much? Why am I not surprised. I think just about every one of my friends played the series while we were growing up and that whole Pokemon rage was about 10 years ago. I think it has passed for the most part in the US but why is it still so popular in Japan?

Because it's a highly established RPG, coming from a highly established company, and being put on a highly established platform.

Why wouldn't it? :p The Japanese are crazy gaga over RPGs.

I realize that but doesn't everybody get tired of something after so many iterations and years of being bombarded by it?

But they're not really being "bombarded" by it. Ignoring the different versions of the same game (i.e. red and blue, gold and silver), there has only been 4 different pokemon RPGs, with 2 remakes. All of the other pokemon titles have been spin-offs like Snap, Mystery Dungeon, etc.

Lol, you people are funny.

People clamouring over FF7 remake, the best FF to date (despite there being a whopping 11 of them) = Okay, understandable, awesome, etc

People clamouring over Gold/Silver remake, the best pokemon to date (despite only being 4 of them) = OMG THESE PEOPLE ARE SAD LOSERS

What's the difference?

@The Teej,

- Some people tend to see Pokemon only as a "social phenomenon" that has to fade away sometime. What these people fail to see is that Pokemon is actually an extremely good RPG (very complex game system) with a huge fan base. So far, no version of Pokemon has ever failed to sell millions of copies in the first week.

i would think that , having less games to choose from, the last thing they would want is another remake of one of the four games...

But unlike FF7 where they pour out a few new FFs every generation (although this seems to be less apparent in this generation), Pokemon always gets only one iteration every generation, and the fans know this. They know demanding a new pokemon game won't happen until the next generation, period. So, they learn to accept a remake of the greatest pokemon game of all time.

I never actually found out, does HG/SS still have the Kanto region from Gold and Silver?

Yup, all intact, along with a new area west of Cianwood (The one you surf to with the Fighting gym) including the Safari Zone.

Also, Pal Park is also there for those without DSi's.

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.6 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics.
