Bazooka Joe
I'm attending an event this coming Wednesday. However, I seemed to have scheduled myself for both developer and IT professional on the attendee profile. Since I'm identified as an IT professional that's the track I want to go to. However, it's later in the afternoon. I was worried that if I miss the earlier developer session I may not be permitted in the IT portion. Did anyone experience any difficulty? Does it matter what session you attend? raskren
I contacted one of the presenters at the event I attended in Pittsburgh regarding exchanging 32-bit for 64-bit. Here's his response: Richard, to the best of my knowledge, the 32-bit one is the only version we gave out and there unfortunately isn't a vehicle for me to get it changed for you. I definitely will give the feedback to our event planning team and communicate better in upcoming events. neodorian
I'll be going to the Baltimore area one but it's not until November 9th for some reason. I will probably just use the 64bit install media from the party pack and the key from the New Efficiency event. One for my desktop, one for the machine I am building my littler brother for his birthday/xmas present. My girlfriend says she could care less and her Vista lappy is working fine. All that leaves is one copy to buy from newegg before the beta expires on my laptop. Hak Foo
It's only 32 bit. Same sleeve here. Oddly, the sleeve has holes for two discs, so they could have gone 64-bit. Oddity: I broke down and installed 32-bit, and it assumed Ultimate by default; my retail-box Vista Ultimate disc would ask you. I wonder if these are closer to OEM discs with a fixed default version set on 'em. Lee G. Veteran Posted October 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 7, 2009 Take a look at the web site detailing the event, they might have a clue on there. When this was first announced the site for the US events showed a Win7 Pro box and early promo's said that's what we would get. Shortly before the events started that was changed to a Win7 Ultimate image and that's what we got. It doesn't show anything on the UK website, like it does on the US one. Nonetheless, I did get a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, containing both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions. It wasn't in a sleeve, just two paper CD cases in a plastic wrapper. game_over
Microsoft must be losing alot of money with this release with all the copies they are giving away... launch parties, launch events, free upgrades, every where you turn there is free copies being churned out.. It had a t-shirt, stickers, ads, Optimized Datacenter Evaluation Kit (Trial), and Readiness Resource Kit for IT Pros and Developers. I attended the developer session yesterday and had a good time. PGHammer
Curious if anyone can answer this question. Say I use my Windows 7 key to install 32-bit on my computer since I only have 2GB ram at the moment. Say in the future I upgrade to 4GB ram and want to install 64-bit. Will this work or is the key already tied to the 32-bit version? Just because you don't have 4 GB of RAM is no excuse for not installing the 64-bit version of 7. I had started testing the 64-bit version of 7 with just one gigabyte of RAM. (No, I'm not kidding; check the Windows 7 beta forum for my first posts.) I only have 3 GB today, and I'm running 7 Ultimate x64 RTM today. If you have the driver support and there are no application gotchas, I would go 64-bit (as long as your CPU will allow) instead of 32-bit with 7. _neutrino Veteran Posted October 10, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 10, 2009 Has anyone been able to use MSDN or Technet to download 64bit Windows 7 and use the New Efficiency Key to install it? I am really interested in know if this will work. I am going to be building a new system soon that has 12GB of ram and i need to know if i am going to be able to install Windows 7 on it with this key or if i am going to have to purchase a Retail copy. Works perfectly fine. I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64bit from TechNet with the key I got from the event. I did the same thing last year with Vista Ultimate, I got the 32bit disc at the event and had a coworker get a 64bit download for me. _neutrino Veteran Posted October 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 13, 2009 Went to the event today and they had a request form for them to mail you a copy of 64 bit in the mail and did not get a copy of 32 bit at the event. I was kinda hoping after they told us about the form that I would get both however that was not the case. They estimate 2-4 weeks delivery though. Un4given
I went to my conference yesterday, and i thoroughly enjoyed it. Love the multi-touch feature, will have to get me a touch screen for sure. My only quam with the whole thing is only getting the 32 bit version. Why are people who probably have no ties to the IT/Developer world getting shipped both editions, but yet those people who had to drive 4 hrs to get the event like i had to yesterday only getting the 32 bit version? Makes absolutely zero sense to me. DWillens
I pre-ordered a couple of Win7 Pro x64 upgrade packages. I can't recall if the consensus was that the upgrade packages will be full discs with "upgrade" keys, or different discs entirely. The reason I ask is because, if the upgrade disc is a full disc, why not use that disc to install x64 version and then activate it with the New Efficiency key? I am scheduled to go to the Orange County CA event on Oct 26 and I was really looking forward to getting an x64 disc. I don't have a source for an MSDN or Technet image.
