Another USB 3.0 Product Emerges, the Aviator 312 External SSD

Recommended Posts

USB 3.0 is slowly making its presence felt in the computer market, as an increasing number of manufactures are announcing new products that have been designed to take advantage of the performance and features of the new connectivity interface. On that note, Active Media Products has just announced the introduction of its new USB 3.0-enabled Aviator 312 external solid state drive. Boasting the new USB 3.0 interface, the Flash-based storage product is expected to provide users with increased

performance and backwards compatibility with previous USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 standards. ?Aviator 312 SSDs are a ground-breaking product with performance that is eight to ten times faster than today's fastest USB 2.0 flash drives,? said Jerry Thomson, vice president of sales at Active Media Products. ?For anyone who doesn't have hours to waste copying large files there's nothing that comes close to the Aviator 312's speed.?

The new Flash-based, high-performance storage solution has been designed to provide customers with a choice for a 16GB, 32GB and 64GB SSD, which makes use of an MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory chip. The drive measures 70 x 54 x 5 mm and is compatible with the previous generation of USB interfaces, a feature that will be available on all USB 3.0-enabled devices. In terms of performance, the new drive is said to be capable of delivering up to 240MB/s and 160MB/s for read and write, respectively. These performances can only be achieved when the USB 3.0 interface is available on both the host and the respective device.

The new drive is scheduled to become available later this quarter for a price point of US$89, US$119 and US$209, respectively. The drive will add to a couple of other USB 3.0 devices, including the recently announced Freecom drive[/b]rive.

Go on people, laugh it up.

Personally, I love the idea of a USB 3.0 SSD 16GB drive - back when I was at Uni I'd have killed for a portable drive with these kind of read/write speeds. Ever tried running a Visual Studio project off of an USB 2.0 flash drive? Absolute hell. Intellisense kills off any chance of you doing that. With this? Makes it a lot more possible, and I'm all for it.

Is there any computers out there with USB 3.0 ports yet?

laptops or desktops?

not as of yet

but soon P55 based motherboard would get refresh with USB 3 solutions

good speed but $89 for 16gb? the 32gb seems a bit more reasonable but for that price I would expect around 60gb

the problem lay SSD manufacturing is expensive , and oems would went to get premium profit

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.6 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics.
