MW2: No Dedicated Servers, No Mods

Idiots, hardcore players wont lose much?

How about being at the mercy of some random retard from halfway across the world with a crappy connection trying to host a big match and then when he gets tired of being killed, quits the game which in turn kicks everyone out from the fun they were having.

Im definately not buying this game, they were borderline *******s with the whole overpricing the game for PC market thing, but this just takes the cake.

http://www.fourzerotwo.com/?p=745 - This will give #MW2 PC players a better idea as to exactly why IWNET is an improvement. Details included

More drivel from 402.

"So you?re always guaranteed the best game performance for where you are and what connection you?re playing on"

Yeah that Tiscali broadband connection is really going to be on par with a ?40 server on the back bone of most ISPs. Not taking in to the amount of **** running on a average users PC degrading performance. I play my FPS games on my PC to get away from this!

Have you played the console version? Matchmaking works just fine, the system pings every player and selects the best host based on connection - Thus you are most likely to be paired up with other people from the UK or wherever your from, pretty much eliminating lag.

As for leaving, have you even read about the game features? Like the much improved host migration?

It works perfectly for consoles and it will for PCs as well, stop blowing it out of proportion.

so lets dumb it down for the downs syndrome kids to play.... why do we always have to dumb stuff down to get a larger user base.... why can't we set the bar a little higher, and have people actually show some intelligence in something they do, no matter how mundane or useless it really is.

+1

Activision/IW you're being naive if you think the PC = a console, the majority of your fanbase on the PC are hardcore gamers, don't cater to them and you might as well say goodbye to the chance of average PC sales, and welcome in **** poor sales.

I have no idea how anyone can think the types of audiences that spend money and time with PC gaming are the types of people who don't know what ping means, and can't favourite a bunch of servers to play on.

Console tards buy console games, they're not about to start flocking to the PC version just because it gets dumbed down.

Im not blowing it out of proportion, i am making an informed decision from my personal experiences. If i dont want to buy it then i wont buy it, it doesnt affect anyone elses choice.

I have an intense distaste for matchmaking, i dont want to sit around waiting to be paired up, i want a list of servers where i can choose where i play and if i get owned then i can put up with it or leave i almost always play on dedicated clan servers as they have the best atmosphere, not some random american idiot home hosted game spouting off nonsense, i dont want to have to be pandered to because of the console idiots. I am a PC gamer.

Waiting to be paired up? It takes an average of 5 seconds to find a game when you have selected your game-mode, most of the time games are already in the process of the lobby count-down when you join. It does NOT take much longer than filtering and going through a bunch of servers, at all. Everyone are just going nuts because it's a radical chance and no one is opened minded enough to give it a chance, despite the system is proven and it works perfectly.

I have no problems playing with people of different nationalities, but it is nice at times to favourite a few servers UK gamers regular on and be among your home crowd from time to time. Not to mention a UK server = lowest ping you can achieve.

When gaming with kb/m it's even more essential to make sure you game on a correct server for your ping, host advantage with kb/m will be much more noticeable than with controller.

It might do when everyone is on a level playing field when the game is relatively new. If i was to buy the game i would buy it when its cut price months or years after the game comes out and everyone is on a higher level and there might not be many low level people kicking about so then you have to wait to get paired up.

I dont care about filtering, i dont want to be connected to some random server anywhere on the internet where if the host quits then the game kicks everyone out, i want to play where i want to play, im not a retard i dont need the game to pick for me.

well put

Hosting a game on a pc is much different than a console. A console doesn't have antivirus software running, torrents dling, or many other things connecting online. With all the different programs going at one time, and trying to host a 32 player game ( yes, that is the min # of players I would join on a game like cod ), you will have lag fest 2010 on your hands.

Hell, ive been playing the 50 player servers recently on cod4. Id like to see someones comp handle that lol.

Again, it has never searched based on levels either, so again another null & void argument - Halo does that. Also you fail you understand again, Host Migration - Have you even bothered to read about it in MW2? If the Host for whatever reason decide to leave, the game doesn't stop - It momentarily pauses everyone looking for a new host, takes less than 5 seconds.

If some doucebag has torrents running and whatnot, the system obviously won't pick him, it'll pick the guy with the fastest and most stable connection out of 16+ players. You do know torrents effect a console as well on a home network, right?

This is an over reaction if ever I saw one... I mean jesus, down syndrome kids? Maybe some of you need to take a brake...

Yes wrong choice of word, i mean similar SKILL "level". For example i went to play Project Gotham 3 on 360 ages ago and while i knew the game was pretty old and there might not be many people knocking about it would have been nice to have had a list of whatever servers are available instead of sat there for 5, 10, 15 mins waiting not knowing if there was even anyone playing the damn game.

This will be the situation with MW2, if i buy it the game will be old, everyone will have a higher skill "level" and i dont want to have to wait ANY amount of time to be connected to some random person.

This is not the way PC games work, PC games gives me a list of servers no matter how old the game is and i get to choose which game i want to join, the PC isnt a console, just because it works with consoles doesnt mean they should force it on all the PC owners who quite clearly DO NOT WANT IT.

Once again though, lets not compare console to pc, pc's are much different and perform much more task than a console ever has to.

No it doesn't, a few programs running in the background won't totally trash the PC and IF a piece of software is running that hogs your bandwidth excessively HE WON'T GET PICKED AS HOST FFS

So basically you are complaining about people who played the game longer are better? ... wtf! Even with the "Dedicated server model" you are likely to hit skilled people.

No offence but the arguments are really hitting rock bottom, trying to find a reason to hate the system.

That could still be the guy that's furthest away from me, but on average fastest, meaning I still suffer the most.

Don't go through none of this or host migration from quitters with dedicated servers, so it's essentially a step backwards in most PC gamers eyes. Matchmaking was essentially made for the consoles out of necessity, due to the open approach to PC gaming it isn't a necessity, anyone and their dog can setup a server for most games.

As I said above any advantages that creep into PC gaming in terms of lower pings/host advantage will be much more noticeable with keyboard/mouse than on the console where everyone is with the same controller and hardware.

ok, then what about the amount of players PC player are used to. Consoles get like what, 16 to maybe 20? pc players are used to double that on a normal server. Id like to see someones computer and connection handle 32+ players.

Well just to play devils advocate MAG for the PS3 has 256 players

But it is powered through a dedicated backbone and some networking wizardry.

Most games on consoles though do have lower player caps than the PC.

maybe... but when picking a game has been slaughtered down to pressing "find game" and that's it....

TF2 on xbox and ps3 has a horribly low player limit compared to what most pc servers use. It's that hosting a game causes a huge load after so many players, and with more than 20, you are pushing it on mostly any persons set up unless its dedicated for it lol.

I don't even play L4D on local servers and that's only 8 players. God forbid trying to find a decent enough local host to play this on.

For games like this a server browser is far superior to match making. It gives the user a choice of where they play and who they play with, it helps communities form and so on.

Im not "arguing", i dont care about the skill level if i want to play with more experienced people then i should be free to do so, i shouldnt have to be forced to play against people i do not wished to play with.

You seem intent on trying to change my own opinions of the online model, trust me you wont.

TF2 on consoles is horrible, a prime example of when PC gaming is truly superior for a multiplayer game.

I've logged over 100 hours on the one Multiplay.co.uk server, I would not of been able to do that had Valve been brain dead enough to block the TF2 SDK and do matchmaking only. Luckily Valve know PC gamers.

they tried it at first with l4d, and it was so horrible. luckily they gave us a browser and dedicated server support.

    • Windows 11 gets useful new File Explorer features in the latest build by Taras Buria Friday Windows 11 preview builds are finally here. After skipping one week, Microsoft is back to releasing preview builds for Windows Insiders to try. This time, Insiders in the Experimental Channel can download build 26300.8687. Its changelog does not contain anything major, but there is still useful new stuff, such as some new conveniences for File Explorer, Windows Update improvements, better Windows Search, a new search provider for the built-in GIF library, and more. Here is the changelog: [Windows Update] As announced in the Windows Update announcement blog, we are now bringing a new unified update experience to reduce the number of reboots you see per month. We are starting by coordinating driver, .NET, and firmware updates to align with the monthly quality update, reducing the update experience to a single monthly restart. See the blog for more information. [File Explorer] Middle-click to open a folder in a new tab is now supported in the Address Bar and the Home page for a more consistent and efficient tabbed navigation experience across File Explorer. Improved screen reader announcements for conflict resolution dialog ("Which files do you want to keep?") when moving/copying files. Made some more improvements to how File Explorer responds to increased text scaling. [Search] Finding apps is more forgiving. Search is better at handling typos, dropped letters, extra letters, and partial words for apps. Queries like “utlook” can still find Outlook. Settings results are improving. We’ve made ranking improvements to help more relevant settings appear higher in results. [Taskbar] Improved reliability of loading the system tray area of the taskbar. Fixed an issue where tooltips might unexpectedly appear on top of the Start menu icon in the taskbar when using the taskbar in an alternate position. Also fixed a few other visual polish issues when using the taskbar with small icons. [Windows setup] The digital safety of users and supporting families is central to how we think about the Windows experience. We're improving information on parental controls and their availability during Windows setup, so families can more easily understand available protections and make informed choices from the very beginning. [Input] Update: The emoji panel (Windows key + period (.)) now uses GIPHY as the GIF provider, delivering a smoother GIF browsing and sharing experience following the deprecation of Tenor. Fixed an issue that was causing the mouse cursor to potentially move in the wrong direction in recent Insider builds on secondary monitors when set to portrait mode. [Remote Recovery Management] Adding a recovery remote management plug-in for extending WinRE management capabilities for MDM providers [Audio] Fixed an issue resulting in audio not working for some Insiders after the latest flights. [Settings] Fixed an issue impacting the reliability of Settings > Apps > Installed Apps after the latest flights. [General Reliability] If you were experiencing freezes in the previous flight when interacting with search, Notepad, or certain other scenarios, that should be resolved now. [Other] When using dark mode, if you open "Run new task" from Task Manager, it will now show in dark mode too. As usual, changes above are rolling out gradually. You can find the release notes here in the official documentation.
    • Im in Ohio, and my VPN endpoint is in Boston. If that helps, it does happen both on and off the VPN. and again only in Edge.
    • It is such a shame. I used to really respect Neowin's articles.
    • So.... slower fixes and slower security updates are preferred? I mean, there is no goldilocks zone here until it can literally update without ever needing a restart, and even then I'm sure someone would complain.
