ZTE's Android Phones Coming Soon

Recommended Posts

Chinese telecommunications giant ZTE seems upbeat about its prospects in the cellphone market with the company readying its Android based handsets for the US, by 2010.

While we have seen a barrage of manufacturers turning to Android of late, there are these little known manufacturers as well, who would want a slice of the Android pie. Remember the Kogan Agora, anyone? While ZTE might be a small player in the US, the company has a strong foothold in Asia. In Europe, ZTE handsets are sold through major carriers like

Vodafone and Telefonica.

China, obviously is ZTE home turf and contributes a lions share of the company's sales in the region. However, most ZTE handsets sold in Asia and the Europe are non smartphones. The latest move to Android has come as a surprise to many and it might just be ZTE's first step into transforming into a mainstream cellphone maker.

So, ZTE is in talks with as many as four major US Carriers in a bid to bring its own Android based handsets to the country. In fact, if all goes well, there might as well be a barrage of ZTE branded Android devices in the US - considering the prolific rate at which the Chinese are known to design and manufacture new phones.
