Yeah that's a bad review. Also I loved Mirrors Edge, one of the funnest most unique games I've ever played and I keep intending to play through it again. Why do they only review the console version? And from everything I've read the xbox 360 version is the worst of the bunch.

Also the guns in no way all feel the same. And the stupid ai can be forgiven because the game wasn't really meant to be played with bots, at least that's how I look at it. Yeah you can go that route but it's not how the game was intended to be played, just like the old Battlefield games that you could play with bots. It's more like an introduction to the game just to learn the basic mechanics and the maps.

My only irritation with this game is that using frequent movement maneuvers makes my eyes hurt. That and I feel like shooting in the game is a chore. I've only played about an hour of it and as such I need to give it a bit more time but I am equally irritated with the inability to play through story without raging about how stupid your bot buddies are. Even on easy the game is rediculously difficult with mounds of enemies pouring at you from all directions cause your teammates are spread thin.

rajput I agree on the weak story (but tbh the game is to the point and thats what I like about it, if it was narrated better this would really have been more immersive)

And seriously there should of been female characters. Imagine the customization on those girls, I could choose to have her ###### pierced if I wanted to :D and the dynamic between the two sexes would of made for really good irony and other emotions that could tie into the story.

Maybe if there's a voice loud enough for Brink 2 we can get girls.

Overall the game is won by true co-op with your team mates.

I agree. Seems stupid to make a feature in a game that can be abused by trolls and nothing can be done to prevent it. I'm not entirely sure they thought that "feature" through all the way.

Besides that no other modern fps has a Ready button, why do they think people would even know to do that to begin with? It's not explained anywhere as far as I know.

This was covered by SD in a few interviews. Basically it boiled down to the choice of male models and tons of customization or both male and female models and very little customization.
whatever jackass at SD decided it would be a good idea to make everyone say they are ready before starting the match should be kicked in the balls.
No, this is a good idea. It stop people from who load really fast (like me in BC2) and rushing off to do the objectives.

As I explained above. And to stop abuse the admins of the server can force start a match or change the server side setting so it readies up more quickly (as Theo has pointed out).

Well I agree with that, but nowhere in the game does explain about the ready button. That's the biggest gripe I have with it.

I've decided to wait until the issues are fixed, especially the ones that affect ATI video cards. One major issue that's preventing me from buying the game is a texture grid bug that affects Radeon HD4000-series video cards (see here). It sucks because I was really looking forward to Brink. :/

No matter when you grab it it'll still be a lot of fun :) I was going to play a few rounds with a friend last night and my stupid modem decided it didn't want to connect anymore :p

Bah.

Well I played a little bit this morning, got really bad FPS(around 25-30) but had a little bit of fun in multiplayer. Now the game won't even start, it loads shows the brink logo and then boots me back to the desktop, no errors or anything.

Running:

Core i7-920

6GB Ram

2x AMD 6950's (Have tried with CF disabled)

that's weird. the 6xxx series of cards apparently have no problems running the game. My suggestions is using this tool http://www.rush-zone.com/downloads/gaming/brink/brinkconfigv1.3/summary.html and turning off the shadows. The biggest problem with this game with ATI cards is that the shadows absolutely murder the performance. Also the program shows a lot of advanced options that aren't available in the menus and only via the console of the game.

no it's ****ing stupid because it gets exploited by jackasses like when my and trag3dy were playing last night. just set a 1 warmup timer or something. the game loads pretty quickly... if you have a slow computer and you can't get their fast enough ****ty, upgrade your pc.

Patch is out, and the ATi users are very happy.

No, it's not ****ing stupid at all mate. It's perfectly fine.

Alright dude. Love to see how much your defending it when you can't start a game because one person is afk at te beginning of a round and can't start a match.

Blame that one person then, the game is fine.

at least they fixed the game... performance could be a bit better though. guess that's up to ATI now.

still have sound issues though :( paying for a beta for the win!

It wasn't just one person though. There were 2 on both teams that refused to ready up or were afk. The server died pretty quickly. I agree that it can be a useful feature for tournaments but we're talking pugs here. The game needs to start automatically after 3 or 4 minutes regardless, and that should be changeable through server configs as well so it can be changed in competitive environments.

In a pug environment the ready up feature is just a hindrance and troll feature and nothing more.

game still randomly crashes for me :(

I can finally get into the game but I'm still getting terrible performance and it crashes whenever I leave a game and go back into the main menu :(

I really don't want to have to turn off the shadows :<

Edit: Scratch that, can't load it up again.

^ yeah trag3dy is having the same problems. Everytime he quits the game it crashes then steam crashes...

Brink: Updates Now Live & Free DLC

BigTeams.JPG

We have been working on updates for Brink to address the lag issue that some people have reported they were experiencing.

In the meantime, we have made a configuration change for 360 users (which will be available to the PS3, once PSN is up) that alters the number of human players when matchmaking for ?Campaign? and most ?Freeplay? modes to eight total human players. This new configuration will allow those connecting to and hosting matches (particularly those with lower upstream bandwidth) to more reliably find and connect to quality hosts via the match-making process ? resulting in less lag and more fun. This change is being rolled out today and will be available worldwide.

For players who haven?t been experienced lag, we?ll still support 8v8 on all maps via a new ?Big Teams? configuration in Freeplay, and through custom settings in Private matches. There is no download required for this update and it will be available automatically the next time you log in to play Brink and launch either campaign or standard Freeplay matches. This should allow players new to the Ark as well as veterans to find quality matches suitable to their preferred play style.

We are also releasing an incremental update for PC players via Steam that addresses AI, GPU, and server issues. See the full release notes on Steam. Many of these fixes are being included in the full update for the 360 and PS3 versions.

We would like to thank you for supporting Brink and for your continued feedback. To show our appreciation for your support of Brink, we will be making the first DLC for Brink available for free when it is released. This DLC is planned for June and will offer additional maps and new content for players. We?ll continue to provide announcements about the next title update, as well as the first DLC release as that information becomes available.

yay for free DLC i guess? Remember when DLC used to be called "patches"?

tried to join a game with soham three times, the first two times the game would crash if i hit skip intro. when i finally got in the sound was mangled and all i heard was the beeping from the medic... good times. weird thing is all the problems happen only during MP. Guess ill stick with SP for now until they fix it.

    • How can it beat a Steam machine without a serious GPU? The two CU iGPU only provides about 5fps in gaming. That's not going to make any gamer happy.
    • Anthropic introduces Claude Tag, a new AI teammate for Slack by Fiza Ali Anthropic has announced Claude Tag, a new feature that lets teams work with Claude directly inside Slack. The idea is simple: once Claude is added to a Slack workspace and given access to selected channels, users can tag @Claude in conversations and assign tasks. Claude can then work through those requests using connected tools and data sources before posting its results back into a Slack thread. What makes Claude Tag different from a typical chatbot is that it's designed to operate as a shared assistant for an entire team rather than a single user. Everyone in a channel interacts with the same Claude instance. This allows the team members to see ongoing work and continue tasks started by others. Furthermore, Anthropic says the AI can build context over time by following conversations in channels where it has permission to operate. This means users don't have to repeatedly provide the same background information for every request. The system is also designed for asynchronous work. Instead of waiting for responses in a chat window, users can assign a task to Claude and return later once the work is complete. Anthropic says Claude can break larger requests into multiple steps and use connected tools to complete them. Moreover, the system can also schedule follow-up tasks and continue working on projects over extended periods. Another feature allows Claude to keep the users updated and follow up on unresolved tasks when its optional "ambient" mode is enabled. The company says the tool is already being used internally for software development, data analysis, support workflows, and debugging. According to Anthropic, around 65% of its product team's code is now generated through its internal version of Claude Tag. For organisations concerned about security, administrators can control which channels, tools, and data sources Claude can access. Separate Claude instances can also be configured for different departments, helping keep information isolated between teams. Administrators can also monitor activity logs, review completed tasks, and set spending limits at both the organisation and channel level. Claude Tag is now available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers and runs on Claude Opus 4.8 that was announced this May. The feature will also replace Anthropic's existing Claude in Slack application, with current users able to migrate within a 30-day migration window. Lastly, eligible customers will receive introductory credits to help teams evaluate the new experience.
    • Beats Studio Pro wireless over-ear ANC headphones drop to their lowest price yet by Fiza Ali Amazon is currently offering the Beats Studio Pro headphones at their all-time low price. The Studio Pro use 40mm active drivers which are designed to improve clarity and reduce distortion compared to previous models, with up to an 80% improvement over the Beats Studio3 Wireless. On the connectivity side, the Studio Pro use Class 1 Bluetooth for a stable, long-range wireless connection. There is also a 3.5mm input if you want to plug in directly, including use with in-flight entertainment systems. Controls are located on the headphones and include a "b" button for music and call control, a volume rocker, and a multifunction button used for switching listening modes, EQ settings, power, and pairing. In addition, the headphones offer integration with both Apple and Android devices. On Apple devices, they support one-touch pairing with iCloud-linked devices, hands-free Siri access, Find My tracking based on last connected location, and automatic software updates. On Android devices, they support Google Fast Pair, Audio Switch between compatible devices, and Google Find My Device tracking, with additional features available through the Beats app. When it comes to the battery performance, it is rated at up to 40 hours of listening time with ANC turned off, and up to 24 hours with ANC or Transparency mode enabled.
