i can not get the Server pack to install on Win 2K3... it says "The version on Windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install." is there a way around this...

im new at this win 2k3 thing... Guuu..

ok i did everything you guys said in past posts for 2k3 and i still can get it to work... when i run the fix on the Server pack... i get an error which says " Setup could not verify the intergrity of the file Updaye.inf. Make sure Cryptographic service ir running on this computer"... what is "cryptographic service"?? and how do i see if its running?

A better system for making Windows Server accept your panel editor:

1. Download the Application Compatibility Toolkit from Microsoft. Its a great tool and you'll need it later anyway.

2. Install the ACT.

3. Open Compatibility Administrator.

4. Click Fix and use XPSP1VersionLie on the EXE.

5. Save your SDB file.

6. Register the SDB file.

7. Run the app, see if it works!

Edit: Unless you used the registry to obtain the value. In the future, use GetVersionEx.

The good thing about this is that it only makes a change for your app, and you don't have to go change the registry every time you use it.

In the next minor release, please change it to SP1 and higher. This can be done using GetVersionEx.

In VB.NET, use System.Enviroment.OSVersion.

This is a great program! I'm definitely going to have some fun with the OEM, and I'll be able to remove my dad's OEM label. (two different machines) Thank you!

this is what i am talkin about.. when i do it i get the error that i have posed in my last post...

Yeah, I would be surprised if that works. Reason being is that I checked the registry value, and didn't use GetVersionEx. Oh well, my programming skills have matured and I won't do that again  Now all my programs use .NET and compatibility isn't a problem! :D

Nevermind. I haven't installed it yet, but see if you can put the shortcut to "devmgmt.msc". Or have you tried that?

Edit: Windows 95/98/Me: Try "C:\WINDOWS\CONTROL.EXE Sysdm.cpl, System,1" Where C:\Windows\ is your install directory.

The OEM icon link does work under SP2

the Internet link however does not change the functionality of the link nor the idon but it will change the tooltip

i didnt try the H&S Run or Search icons because it apears to me that the default setting info is hard coded into the app and not read from current registry (or wherever the settings are stored)

either that or the settings that really matter are not the ones it changes because i have netscape as default web browser but the defaults in the app say its all setup for internet explorer.

so if you want one extra button on your start panel for any thing you choose v1.1 of this app will do the job properly for the OEM link under SP2.

but not for any others

it adds a special link to your start menu

with SP2 tho the one ive highlighted seems to be the only one that works

all it is really is a link nohing special but i use it alot

and you can only do this one with SP2 and can add only a total of one
