Excellent race, and well done to Button and Rosberg in particular. Hamilton overused his tyres once more, otherwise he might have won.

Now let's hope for the ash cloud to go away in time for Barcelona in 3 weeks. Or Bernie being able to rent a freight train. :p

Does anyone know if the stewards are investigating the pit lane incident between Alonso and Massa? Alonso's being a real cheeky fecker today. He's already been penalised for jumping the start, and then he goes and cuts Massa on the inside of the pit lane entrance!

yep seen that and as a massa fan im not happy. but i never expected something else from alonso. this guy just has no class and is a very small character.

now both drivers have been going to stewards. i bet massa is being the good teamplayer again but i so hope he ll pays back alonso that move some time later on.

for the race: i loved it!!! lots of action and overtakings. i start to get more and more respect for button i have to confess. last year i thought his title was just because of the car but now he has 2 wins already and leading the wdc. :)

that championship will all about mclaren vs. redbull i say. they look like to have the best cars out there.

There's nothing wrong with what Alonso did, he passed him fair and square just like Hamilton v Vettel in the same corner, that's racing.

Common courtesy to his teammate. He basically shoved him into the dirt. Massa was there first and his pit crew were waiting, not Alonso's.

yep but only after pulling a very unfair trick to felipe massa. he has no ethic at all. i just cant respect such people.

Mixed response to new Silverstone

The new 3.7-mile Silverstone 'Arena' Grand Prix track has received mixed reviews from drivers competing in this weekend's FIA GT World Championship round.

Some, like Aston Martin's Darren Turner and former GT1 Le Mans winner Oliver Gavin gave the new layout - which was originally designed to cater for the return of the British MotoGP in June ? a resounding thumbs up.

Others such as former Renault Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean believed the track not as good as its predecessor.

"It's nothing special," said Grosjean ? who raced on the previous track in GP2. "We have lost Bridge and the complex which was very nice and we didn't gain much with the new part. I'm not a 100 per cent convinced.

"With the single-seater cars they are flat-out through Abbey and in Formula 1 it is going to be very fast as well. I don't think it gives any overtaking opportunities. So that's a bit a shame."

Sumo Nissan drivers Warren Hughes and Jamie Campbell-Walter added that they reckoned the new Village/Loop section following the fast Abbey section had broken up the flow of the track.

"I've got very mixed feelings simply because I really liked the old layout," said Hughes. "If I was driving here for the first time then maybe I would have a different perception. But for me they have taken away two really challenging corners at Bridge and Priory and replaced them with some good kinks but also a slow-speed section which is very frustrating.

"I'm not sure what that brings to the whole thing. It spoils the flow of the rest of the track. Abbey and the left kink afterwards are nice, you can get your teeth into them. The kink onto the national straight is nice as well, and Brooklands is good because you arrive at good speed ? it's just that fiddly bit really breaks up the flow."

Campbell-Walter was more outspoken: "They have got no excuses. They had an open field and they could have done what they liked, but they chose a stop-start chicane.

"I know they have compromised for the bikes, but what's to stop us using the old Bridge section and keep the new bit for the bikes?

"Basically the new home of the British Grand Prix is a track suited to bikes and I don't think that should be the case."

Turner however, who took pole position for the qualifying race, was delighted with the changes.

"It's good," he said. "It will be even better when they get rid of all the mud, because at the moment it's quite easy to drag that back on the track. But I like the corners and it's got bumps ? which is a good thing.

"There are a few on the entry of Abbey at the part of the track that you'd want to turn in, which makes the corner difficult."

Gavin echoed Turner's views adding that he felt it would add a new dimension to car racing at Silverstone.

"I think the circuit flows very nicely I'm very happy with it," he said. "It's got a nice combination of corners and some nice challenging stuff for us. There are two are three corners that are nearly flat and one or two that you have got to have a lot of commitment.

"The style of Silverstone has been carried on. The first right of Abbey and then the following left is a good combination and then heavy braking into Village.

"Surprisingly the Tarmac has got good grip, great for getting the power down and it is really unusual running on the national straight! You have got so used to racing under that Bridge. They have done a cracking job with it, I'm really very happy with it.

"I think that it is going to be a fantastic track not only for us, but for Formula 1, for MotoGP, they have really ticked all the boxes."

Red Bull are in a league of their own. If the car holds to the end it'll be a 1-2 for them.

Behind them the Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari are pretty close together. Schumacher could have been 4th hadn't it been for a bad sector 1 in his final lap. He clearly has the edge over Rosberg in the revised car.

I don't think the race will be too exciting - Barcelona has been a procession every time they raced in the dry there. The only interesting fight will be who can be best of the rest behind RBR. I bet MSC makes it onto the podium as 3rd.

Red Bull 700 tenths over the Mclaren's. Holy wow. Schumi's finally getting there now that the car is starting to suit his driving style. I wonder if Rosberg will keep the old chassis or not. Can't wait for tomorrow though, hopefully Webber takes it, generate more competition within Red Bull and he's Australian so that's an instant plus.

Ferrari fined for pitlane incident

Ferrari has been fined $20,000 in the Spanish Grand Prix after the incident between Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg during qualifying.

The Mercedes driver was forced to brake heavily to avoid contact with Alonso after the Spaniard had been released for his garage while Rosberg was travelling down the pitlane.

Stewards deemed the release had been unsafe and fined the team, but Alonso escaped any penalties.

Hamilton "tyre management" you point to for today problem could very well be rim failure. ?Vettle had problems with his front wing as well (not being able to move it) ?

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.

It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well.
