"Slimmed down Windows 7, integrated Zune HD UI and syncing for media, open access to apps, as well as app-store, rubber trim for grip, stylus and handwriting recognition, SD Card Slots, USB Ports, UI Themes (Aero Glass colours and wallpapers), wi-fi built in with optional ethernet dongle, and multi-tasking."

Holy crap that would be epic!!!

I really like the look of the iPad, certainly looks more useful for me than my MacBook, instead of having to lug around my MacBook around Uni this will be an easy pick up and get straight to work option when in the lecture theatre, doing on the spot research in meetings and making notes down the library, the iWork apps look great for easy work on the go. I think they got a good measure between Mac OS and the iPhone OS for this sort of device.

Definitely a niche product though, but a more than reasonable price in my opinion.

Some things about it I like, some things I don't. But do I need it? No. For a device that size, I could get a netbook (and you have ones that are touchscreen anyway) and preserve the functionality I need. I mean it's a fun device, sure, but I wish you could use it for a few other things, I mean basic note taking wouldn't hurt at all, and as a student I'd love that. And even then it wouldn't justify the cost. Bleh is how I feel about it.

and i have a feeling this thing wont sell alot..

just a feeling.

mayb apple gona realise something soon

because with all the win7 tablets coming out..

oh man they gona be EPIC!!.. i love my PC and gettin win7 on a tablet with all those softwares to use and all..

wow..

cant wait to see one..

i bet the HP slate gona sell more :p

but then i know nothing about business.

I'm willing to bet that within 2 years it will sell more than any other TabletPC based on the Windows Platform (Windows XP Tablet edition, Windows Vista and Windows 7)

So 4 maybe 5? They didn't do too well either. It will sell but will it sell like Apple thinks it will sell?

Here is my two cents:

I really want to like this, I use my iPhone allot to surf while watching TV, while waiting for a plane etc.... And this would make that even better. Problem is I also use my iPhone when I am walking down town, looking for a hotel etc.... and this can not do that conviently. With that said how can I own this and an iPhone? The iPhone does everything I need and I can not see owning both. I can not lose the iPhone because contrary to the "between a smart phone and laptop" reviews, the iPad does not make phone calls so therefore cannot compare to a smartphone. I am having a hard time seeing where this will fit in. I am a tech geek and love this stuff but I also have a budget.

i voted NO

as i currently have an iPod Touch that works fine, if that dies and the iPod Touch's screen size bugs me enough, i Might get an iPad.

currently i use my iPod Touch as a Mobile Internet Device as i am always in Free Wifi Range ( Home personal, and Buisness wifi Hotspot ) and majority of the time, dont feel like getting my 17' laptop out and waiting for it to boot ( i keep the iPod in standby 24/7 ) just to surf while watching TV, while otuside to smoke ( i dont smoke in my house due to alot of electronics and new house), or @ work, walking to the other end of the Tech Bench to my desk where i have my laptop to look stuff up online then walk back to the unit im repairing.

While I can't stand Apple in general because I like the freedom of choice in my apps etc; I do give them credit for what they've accomplished in the last decade revolutionizing music, bringing the iphone to us and furthering tech for years.

And while I wont be buying an ipad - give them a brief round of applause for taking a stab at the tablet market and bringing it more to the front of personal computing. Sure there are better linux and-i'm quite sure an Android/Chrome tablet will be out soon; but now people when they goto upgrade their laptop or netbook will have an extra choice that wasnt there before.

Saying that, i think it looks ****, is unproductive as hell with no multi-task and wtf no usb???

i agree on some points.

but i will be paying alot of atention to the iPad jailbreak scene. if Jailbreaking it gives features that the normal is missing, then i may change my opinion.

if i can replace the iPhoneOS with another ( say Ubuntu or OSX ) then id be all over the iPad

I think is just an oversize iPhone with nothing really new or exiting to offer, and with a price tag starting at $499 there is no way I will waste my money on it. Maybe if Apple offers OSX with it and adds a 5 megapixel camera, and bigger storage capacity, I will get one. My opinion, not worth the hype and the price.

I'm just totally baffled by the 37 people that votes yes

Umm, actually it's not even a giant iPhone. I doesn't have phone functionality. It's just a giant iPod Touch. That's it!!! They should just call it the iPod Touch XL, rather than try and act like it's a whole different device.

Apple dosent have their own tech but the have commercial brain. now they come out ipad, but all i saw is they get the idea of larger scream and a bood reader tech from kindle.I dont feel they necessarily to introduce ipad for so long, they could be just honesetly say," hi there everybody, we are coming out a new machine which is a larger kind of iphone, with a unusual lager size scream (becoz its kind of square than rectangular). you cant call, but we get the function same as a Kindle in it now, so we also selling the ebooks from itune ! oh by the way, our keyboard is kinda smaller than comfortable." :p

Well I am not going to lie, I loved using Google Maps on there. Having a GPS that could easily be used in a way such as that could be quite useful, however for the rest of it I didn't see anything that great. Web browsing was mediocre and I didn't like typing on it, probably something that could be learned I guess.

I am a Mac user and I have absolutely no interest in the iPad. The primary reason I switched to Mac is because multi-tasking on it feels light years ahead of Windows. The iPad, on the other hand, limits you to one task at a time. That is regression at its finest.

I also can't conceive a situation where I would prefer an iPad to something bigger or smaller. If I want music or maps on the go, a phone is much more convenient. If I want to sit in my living room and play games or read a book, a big-screen TV or real book, respectively, are much more convenient.

Changed my vote, ended up getting the 3G 64GB, and not regretting it, so far everything I normally do on my laptop and desktop, it can do.

Only thing that blows is it will not import my Outlook PST, only my settings
