DeadAIM 4.0 is out, and is no longer freeware. Suffice to say there have been some significant changes made, though whether or not they're worth paying for is up to you.

The following new features were added:

  • Buddy aliasing - rename the buddies on your buddy list to what you want.
  • New configuration screen.
  • Talking while away.
  • Transparency - Fade down transparency.
  • Tabbed IMs - Always on top.
  • Notifications - Select the time period for notification display.
  • Logging - Optional whether to log images and inline files.
  • Logging - Chatroom logging.

The following bugs were fixed:

  • Sometimes even if the "advertise DeadAIM in your profile" tick was not selected it would get added to the profile anyway.
  • Notifications - Clicking on notification alert replacements opened a window to the wrong screenname.

so i assume that the previous two threads of the same topic were deleted?

anyway, i'm waiting for a good reason to buy this software. till then i'm keeping my current version.

Yea because some of the participants encouraged cracks for it. They were also subsequently warned/restricted.

 you'd think if someone was willing to put that much effort in finding a crack, they'd be willing to drop a mere $5 for it

i, on the other hand, won't drop $5 of an addon to a FREEWARE service

The people at <a href='http://<< spam >>' target='_blank'>this site</a> have a cracked version and it works! You have to sign up to see the forum tho :\

....

for the love of god... IT'S ONLY FIVE DOLLARS... skip buying your big mac extra value meal for one day and pay the poor man.

did i buy it? yes, i did. because i still prefer AIM over trillian (back off) and i feel like anyone who writes software that i really enjoy - something that makes me smile and think "thank god for so-and-so's program" - deserves to be paid/recognized for it.

HAHAHAHA, Pure Gold. I am going to pay him too. Like the man said, it's only $5! It's incredibly cheap for what you get.

I bought it, nothing too special. I don't even really notice any changes. I would suggest sticking with the version you have.

When you pay for it, does it let you download it immediately; or do you have to wait for JDennis to email you a registration code/website link/whatever? I'm about to buy this thang and I want to use it right away....

AOL is gonna bitch at him sooo hard, im just waiting

Why would they? Because AIM is free and he's attempting to profit off of it? If that's true then JDennis clearly didn't think this out enough when he first implemented this in 3.2.1....That's why I have a version of 3.2.1 archived on my hard drives....somewhere......hopefully...

an email is sent, with a download link (that's only active for 12hrs) and your serial. that email came to me *immediately*, though - i closed my paypal window in Opera, opened a new tab, logged into my email.com account, and it was already there, waiting for me.

    • No, "a great deal" for 32GB of DDR5 is $50, not $350. I mean I see what you mean, that it's a decent price compared to what's currently available, but you really should put a disclaimer in this articles explaining that it's still multiple times more expensive than it used to be.
    • Linux 7.1 stable launch looms as Linus Torvalds releases the final release candidate by Paul Hill Linus Torvalds has just released what’s expected to be the final release candidate of Linux 7.1, rc7. The Linux founder said that this RC is not small, but smaller than recent releases, which is a good sign because he expects the stable version to drop next week if things continue on this trajectory. Linux kernels see a merge window for the first two weeks of their life, where developers add new features, then there are about seven or eight weeks of release candidates before the stable version. Typically, there are seven release candidates, but if more time is needed, then an eighth release candidate is released too. This week’s RC’s biggest area of fixes was for GPUs, with networking just behind. Torvalds said that the rest of the release was “pretty random and spread out” with some architecture fixes, driver fixes, filesystem improvements, and build fixes for more unusual configs. In terms of specific pieces of hardware receiving improvements in this update, we had more AMD Zen6 models supported and fixes for AMD SDMA 7.1 and GFX11. Hardware that got improvements includes Lenovo laptops, HONOR laptops, and MSI laptops. Here are the changelogs for those: ASoC: amd: acp: Add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH11 Input: atkbd - add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Air 14 (83QK) Input: atkbd - skip deactivate for HONOR BCC-N's internal keyboard ASoC: amd: yc: Add MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG to quirk table ASoC: amd: yc: Enable internal mic on MSI Bravo 17 C7VF When the stable Linux 7.1 is released, it will be up to distribution maintainers, such as Canonical and Red Hat, to release the update to their users via the update manager. Some versions of Linux will get it before others, and some will never get it at all. Fedora and Arch-based distros will be among the first to get it, though. If you don’t get it, the security fixes will be backported to your system’s kernel, so you won’t be at risk, but you won’t get newer hardware support, which is fine if your computer works now.
