God awful UI back then... it was literally all over the place, it's definitely improved since then. If it remained like that, I'd never even give it a chance! Ew! Haha.

How is extension support with Opera?

I've switched to Chrome from Firefox again because extension support on Chrome is now officially supported and it has bits and bobs I need.

Last time I tried Opera I still don't think there was an official extensions platform?

There isn't and there won't be. Opera has the 'all in one package' approach. You either like it or don't. for myself i find it ideal because i want my browser to browse not play monopoly or something. Less risk with dodgy extensions, all you need to browse is there. ?Perfect middleground browser.

It doesn't, it supports user JS, Custom buttons and plugins, which together with the built in features cover pretty much all the bases of what extensions do.

without the inherent compatibility, security and memory faults that come with a fully integrated extensions. you just cannot include extensions without adding a ton of issues in the form of cross compatibility. you can of course go the route of chrome and the new FF extensions and make extensions a simpler layer on top of the browser, but then they don't have the features and pwoer of extensionsand then that's a problem too. and most of what that type can do can already be done in opera.

Ah fair enough, guess I won't be making the jump. Just need to wait on Chrome adding some things I want (like smooth scrolling).

For stylish userstyles, you can do that straight out of the box with Opera, just right click, Edit Site Preferences, Display, then point it towards your user script file/stlye sheet. There are a couple of widgets for youtube video downloading but they don't offer an inline download button on the youtube page itself (though.... I assume there is probably a stlyish style for that too!).

Ah well, I hope they get their final release up soon, all these people choosing it through the browser ballot are going to get the old ugly looking one... not a great first impression :blush:

Opera has support for Userscripts and User CSS out of the box :)

I know you can muck around with scripts like that but it's a pain, I want to just click things and they install.

Plus not all extensions are simple scripts.

I know but the scroll smoothing extensions for chrome never feel right for me, or just laggy on the page.

I take that back, https://chrome.googl...cgfkhb?hl=en-gb is better than SmoothScroll (extension I had last). Just turned off the bouncy edge.

Still, Google need to get around to what I consider basic functionality like smooth scrolling, something it sounds like Opera have nailed well.

Which is the reason I use it. When I want extensions I use Firefox. There's something for everyone.

Phew, I've never seen so many RCs being released this fast before! :omg:

I want to use the RCs, but they are updating them so quickly it's almost pointless. If the auto-update feature was working I'd be using it right now. I'll probably just wait until the final version is released, we all know that can't be too far off :D.

Wow, you aren't kidding. I'm glad they a hustling to fix bugs, but I am starting to wonder how many they are adding by going at this frantic pace.

And it's a bit hypocritical to label anyone who disagrees with you, isn't it? Especially when you defend Chrome with even more vigor than an Apple fanboy defends Apple!

Those statistics that you are bashing so hard have been right about the marketshare before. In fact, every stat website is still showing Chrome ahead, with Opera still declining in usage.

Why are you changing the subject? You made a claim about market share, and I showed you how there was clearly something wrong. Also, we know for a fact that Opera's usage is not declining, because they have consistently been posting growing user numbers (actual users, not just downloads) ever since they removed the ads four years ago.

I'm enjoying watching all the new bugs pop up at the same rate the old ones are fixed.

See? More anti-Opera FUD. It's amazing that you call anyone who doesn't love Chrome and hate Opera "Opera fanboys", while at the same time spending most of your time here bashing Opera. And you haven't even read my posts, but are making false assumptions based on the fact that I exposed you.

Lol @ PreKe ... I'm calling certain people (actually I've called 2 people) Opera Fanboys, because... well... you guys kinda are.

I'm not completely bashing Opera at all... Heck I even posted stats that showed Opera ahead. Not once did I say Chrome was better overall. I've always stated it was IMO.

And I haven't made any FUD. As more bugs got fixed in the RC releases, new bugs started to appear... I know this because I was using it, and I was on their Release Website reading the comments. So obviously, people who are testing it, and are posting new bugs appearing is not FUD. It has nothing to do with Anti-Opera at all. I've said it once, and I'll say it again (and I'd wish you'd actually READ THIS)... I like Opera 10.5... I've liked Opera before. I like the features. I love having tabs on the bottom of my browser like they allow me to have. I think it's better than Firefox. But IMHO it's still not better than Chrome. But that's my opinion.

Don't try to pick fights out of nothing PreKe. I'm not tossing around FUD. I'm not bashing the browser in any way. I've stated facts, and things that are my opinion. If you can't seem to handle any of that, then go to a new thread, or somewhere else please, because this thread doesn't need back and forth bickering.

Just because we have lots of RAM, means that programs with memory leaks are acceptable?

A memory leak is crazy incontrollable memory usage when it starts using like gigs of memory. It never goes over 300mb for me, usually stays around 200-300. I think 10.5 just uses lots of cache which is no problem with me.

And yes if you have lots of ram controlling about a program using a couple hundred megs of memory is a bit ridiculous.
