Just to make sure I am singing from the same hymn sheet, I just want to talk about the in game browser.

When I click server browser, it (after a long time) shows me a list of servers but all the pings have dashes instead of the ping. So I have no idea which server is best. Anyone else get that?

Also, when I double click on a server, it will say connecting then that box disappears and nothing. No error message, no unable to connect or server full, it just does NOTHING. Is it just me?

Once I am in a server I love this game. But spending 15 minutes trying to join just one server is no fun for me at all.

Are you running Windows 7? And if so make sure you run the game in Administrator mode. That should fix your not showing ping issues.

That method never fixed it for me - using the Steam version. Its infuriating to say the least :(

create a shortcut to the game on your desktop or somewhere else. Go to the properties of that shortcut and tell it to run as admin. that should fix the issue.

Well I finally sat down to play the game last night and it was a good time. The game crashed part way through my play session, which was a hassle. But after rebooting, it didn't happen again for the rest of the night. It's a lot of fun, but I'm starting to remember why I stopped playing the other battlefield games. Hopefully this game will continue to grow on me.

Same here Sethos - I tend to pick a server belonging to a clan I know and love (so I know it is well run and well populated) and stay there for the duration of my playing time. The server browser makes me want to tear my hair out with frustration.

ENGLISH- run a great HC server, =BBUK= and Essex Rifles both run standard Conquest servers that are always a joy to play in. All 3 clans are PBBans streaming, which is always a bonus :)

I bought the game for pc today, but when i click on server list, it stays loading a minute, and nothing appears on the list. Anyone else getting that?

Tried executing it as admin, but it's the same thing.

Could it be due to the server maintenance? On the lower part of the screen appears a message saying the maintenance would be at 08:00 GMT, so maybe that's the problem.

Just to chime in, running the game as Administrator once did show me my pings, but it no longer works for me at all. I cannot see pings regardless of how I run the game.

Another case of the crap PC port? The 360 version's great. Played online with my mates and it was pretty amazing, but I really need a headset.

this whole marketing crap of a "real PC game" is BS at best. You can't right clikc any where in the menu, no self hosted dedicated servers, no mods. the UI is crap at best... ping doesn't work, overlapping textm, no in game chat/message system. The game is amazing. but the execution is **** poor at best.

Why do you need to right click in the menu?

Why would you want to host a server yourself when it would be unranked?

What is wrong with the UI specifically?

There is in game chat, do you want the ability to send mail to your friends?

You have two actual issues listed in your post, the ping not working, and overlapping text. In the grand scheme of things those are non-issues. Yes, it'd be great if they worked, but I'd rather they spend time on server stability instead of fixing two UI bugs.

when you are playing a game, you you pop out the squad menu it takes the entire page. Now you have to minimize that to see everything else. Why can't the side menu just to on top of the weapons menu instead of taking it over? And why would a server that you could make yourself have to be unranked? Also there is no LAN option. How can this be a true "PC game" if you cant set up a LAN game? nhl, fifa and madden would let you set up a LAN game... they are (were) all direct ps2 console ports and they would add that option for you.

And when i mean chat, i mean when you are browing servers or just in the menu. And for whatever reason my mic doesn't work with the game. I wish in the settings i could pick what device i wanted to use in the game. Also the no auto log on is really annoying too... And you can't just hit tab to view the scoreboard when you die, you have to hit esc and then to get outta that, hit esc again. Why can't you just hit/hold tab down like you normall would.

i just have a lot of little beefs with this game. It's awesome, but all the littles thigns around it could be sooo much better. Being a web designer makes you really picky when it comes to UI decisions...

Ranked games have to meet EA's definitions. The second you host those files they're no longer in control, a server admin could do any number of things to modify the game.

I couldn't answer the LAN question, I agree that seems silly but at the same time the client doesn't have server capabilities so that is likely the reason for it.

There's definitely a lot of small things they need to change, but there's also a lot of big issues. My server just crashed when it was full, that to me is a lot more pressing than being able to press tab to view scores.

no i 100 percent agree with you. They are definitely bigger issues to deal with, those are just some of my beefs with the UI. but the network stabilty is definitely something they need to resolve ASAP.

Oh man, best game yet.

Played as Engineer, got into MG on APC and basically helped this guy OWN the map - got 7 direct kills, a crapload of assists whilst also jumping out between RPG's to repair him. Got loads of pins for the repair/6 kill streak/kill 7 enemies with a tank. Eventually got swarmed after someone traced the the APC then mortar'd me :(

Spawned as sniper and ended up in a perfect place with 3 or 4 guys running down a road - 2 headshots in a row then 2 body hits for squad assist points. Best 5 minutes ever lol.

Then noob tubed twice :/

Right click allows for more options, a interface not dumbed down for consoles

BF2 had ranked servers that were dedicated and privately owned I believe? not sure on that one :p

The UI is pretty, but doesnt offer many options

I think he meant in-game IM like steam etc

Without any doubt on the BF2 had ranked private servers.

In fact, I only play ranked games on BFBC2, and I know for a fact I have connected to plenty of non EA servers, so not sure what he means here, if you rent a server you can definitely still make it a Ranked one, it just means Ranked servers have to fall within a certain set of rules, hence why they are considered Ranked.
