another question, since i'm a battlefield noob and this is my first battlefield game. Did they always up the leveling up system that they have or did they jack that from CoD?

Battlefield 2 had a unlock system, which came out well before CoD4. BF2's was also very severe, you could play 100 hours and not have all the unlocks (you would have all the ones you wanted to play w/ (3-5 of em) but getting those last few ones took forever)

had some solid rounds after work. i love the m16a. no reason to go anything but assault.

Agree with the Assault assertion. I love that class. I was a Medic hound in BF2, didn't much care for the other classes but Assault is my favorite for BC2.

And yes, BF2 had the level up system but for folks like me who were more casual players, it was impossible to get any major unlocks. BC2 is much more rewarding to me. It's been mentioned earlier in the thread but with the unlocks and insignias and medals, you can get rewards every single time you play. I have yet to get tired of getting pins and such after a match.

... No Local Area Network support what-so-ever. Period. End of Story. If your friends and you want to play the game, buy it, and buy a server and set it to have a private password. That's the only way.

That was Spookie's server right? Because the friends browser is so FUBAR'd, I only saw like the first 5 letters of the server you were on, but I am pretty sure it was his but want to double check.

Yeah honestly when it finally dawned on my why not change teams and join up with you, you had left. But damn you were insane with that C4. I could not go anywhere in the tank. LOL That round I came into the match probably about half way, and I always need a round or two to warm up, but I seriously did awful, I think I was 0/6 or something, just awful.

I have no idea who's server it was - I used the "play now" button I think. With regards to the C4, I have found that the Assault class with an M14 or G3 (and therefore C4 instead of GL) is a more formidable AT force than the engineer himself! You can resupply yourself, so as long as the vehicle is distracted, or you have smoke cover, you can very easily get close to stick a couple of c4 on. Play with friends in your squad, and if you die but still get C4 on the tank - your friends can shoot the C4 to detonate it and kill the tank. You will still get the points even after death ;)

So just curious from your end you did not notice any lag on me or anything right? I know I was mainly in a tank but I think we were on feet together at one point. I know no one else said anything so I do not think there were any issues, but I was just so surprised how well my connection was for playing overseas, like I saw no difference at all and thought I may see some. So that is encouraging. I did check my ping on a few occasions just to see, and while it was insanely high according to the game, so was everyone else.

I had zero lag issues to be honest, there have only been a couple of servers I have been on where I have had lag. It only seems to become an issue when ping gets to 250+ (round trip latency, based on the in-game scoreboard). I have also found that overseas servers are better than I thought they would be. Even US servers are completely playable!

I honestly had stayed away from connecting to oversea servers for me because of the issues the game was having, but if there are no issues like it looked like there were none today, I will definitely start joining you guys more often as it seemed like a real good crowd. The game you ragequit I literally was just being a huge pain in the ass with the tank, but the main reason I was able to be one were people on my team were repairing me without me even needing to ask and they were not even on my squad. Was a real good bunch of people as far as I could see and everyone seemed really into actually playing the game as it's meant to be played.

So good server you have there Spookie. (Y) I like how it welcomed me too. I will definitely join again soon.

I have had a couple of games like that - with completely incidental teamwork. Nobody had to be asked for anything - they just did their jobs! I played a rush match the other day on a random server (map was "isla innocence"), and my team literally steamrolled through them on offence - I think we won with 2 tickets lost or something. Amazing game. On defence it was pretty much the same - the other team all sat on recon apart from some who flew choppers over. I took down 4 choppers with my AT4... I don't think I have found anything more satisfying than that since. Just watching the missile curve round to hit the tail and spin it out is so awesome :D

Looking forward to getting some more games in with you Larry

Does anyone know how skill rating is calculated in this game? I'm a bit confused, because my one friend who is a lower rank (i know that doesnt mean anything), has more deaths than kills.. has more losses than wins, overall lower squad score, overall lower score, lower team score, and lower score per minute, yet his "skill level" is higher than mine.

We're a bit confused on that.

Probably something to do with time played. I would't worry about stats too much, they are meaningless.

Yeah im not, but its neat looking at the numbers sometimes.. (I dont play to have awesome scores, just to have fun) But it was just an interesting point he spotted.

Ahhhhhhh, that explains it all with the C4. I figured you had to be assault and was resupplying yourself.

So okay cool I am looking forward to it as well. (Y)

I dont know either, but I noticed it has changed and is not based all on KD ratio like I thought it was.

Zero Punctuation reviews Bad Company 2

Keep in mind Yahtzee does not review MP, so this is just a review of the SP.

Pretty funny review. His explanation of the mortar shell part was awesome. Looks like I made the right choice by skipping the single player.

I had some of my best games in recent memory today. I played about five games of conquest and won them all, which should hopefully bolster my abysmal win/loss ratio. My squadmates and I were actually working together, which definitely helped. I also unlocked the AN-94, which is by far my favourite gun in the game now. Slap the 4x scope and the MMN AR specialization on that thing and I'm in heaven.

I'm starting to get better at instinctively hitting the Q button whenever I see an enemy. Again, having a 4x scope definitely helps for spotting.

Also got three 5000 pt awards, including one for getting 100 headshots. Don't know why they gave me two, but hey, I'm not complaining ;).

Don't really see the point of reviewing a game whose appeal is largely based on MP content if you're going to ignore that part.

+1

My friend mentioned to me the other day that he felt the single player was awful. I tried to explain this very aspect, that it is the MP content that has the sexiness involved. Poor kid. Missing the good stuff!

LMAO! I think he is spot on and I still loved the single player. They really did over do it with the dust in both single and multi player. Yahtzee is to never be taken seriously. He does not review games so he can tell you how good they are. He reviews them to rape them with a cactus. It's what he does best :p

I dont think the 2nd headshot insignia counted to your final score. If you had three 5000k point awards you would be well over 15k

Indeed, you're right. I completely forgot that the Gold Star gives you 5000 points. If you take out that last Insignia, then it equals 10500 points perfectly.

Its gotta be a bug. I've had awards show up twice before for no reason. It's not like I achieved [insert requirements here] twice.

Just started playing this.

Game is really hard to get into as a brand new player. Almost impossible to get any points when everyone is 20+ levels and several ranks above you. :(

Squad up! It's light years ahead of Modern Warfare 2 for new players, Battlefield has always been able to welcome the new player much easier. I would suggest trying to find a good squad and if you can't then find your best player on your team and follow him. Support him. Getting into firefights early on is tough so try to take objectives. You will die a lot but that's ok, everyone does. If you need to, use the vehicles especially tanks. And spot enemies! That gives you great points for little risk. Before you know it you will unlock a couple upgrades and feel comfortable.

So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic Games store brought along two games from wildly different genres this week for PC gamers to claim. Robobeat is a rhythm-based action game that lets you become a bounty hunter that can wall run, slide, and bunny hop around his opponents. All you have to do is stick to the beat for the built-in or custom songs. Next, Citizen Sleeper is a sci-fi RPG adventure taking place in a ruined space station. It uses tabletop RPG-inspired elements like dice rolls and timers to change up how players approach its activities, factions, and storylines. The Citizen Sleeper and Robobeat giveaways end on June 25. On the same day, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and Voidwrought will become the next freebies. The bundle space expanded with two more collections from Humble this week too. The June 2unes bundle is up first, carrying plenty of rhythm games. This carries Kill the Music and Rhythm Witch in the $5 starting tier, followed by Trombone Champ, Spin Rhythm XD, and Thumper in the $7 tier. This carries Among Us 3D: VR and Zero Caliber VR for $10. The next tier brings in Tactical Assault VR, Ancient Dungeon, and Arizona Sunshine Remake for $15. VTOL VR, Zero Caliber 2 Remastered, Metro Awakening, and Thief VR land to finish things off for $18. • Poll: Grand Theft Auto VI price predictions, cast your vote by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe After years of waiting, Rockstar will be solidifying the launch date of Grand Theft Auto VI with the launch of pre-orders next week. While the studio has confirmed a date for this occasion, it is yet to attach a price to the highly anticipated game. So let's see what our readers think it will cost at launch. The Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders will kick off on June 25 for digital and physical editions. Unless some last-minute changes happen, the release date will be November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, there's still no information about a PC version from the developer or the publisher Take-Two. Now the question becomes, how much will Grand Theft Auto VI cost at launch? The game is predicted by some analysts to be the biggest launch of an entertainment product ever. With the amount of hype that has been built behind it and with ballooning development costs, Take-Two may price this Grand Theft Auto entry differently from other AAA titles. The current price of a AAA game is $69.99. That norm almost rose to $79.99 before calming down. But with such a massive release, Grand Theft Auto VI may be the game that pushes the boundary again. It's also possible that Take-Two keeps the price relatively low to increase the number of players that jump in early and keep them hooked on Grand Theft Auto Online to spend on microtransactions for years to come. Keep in mind that the below poll is asking for a prediction of the standard edition price, not a deluxe or any other special edition that Take-Two will introduce for additional benefits. Also, there is the chance of the company splitting up the campaign and online portions. If you think that will happen, put your vote on what you think will be the total cost of the two. Poll Poll: How much will Grand Theft Auto VI cost? $59.99 $69.99 $79.99 $89.99 $100 or more Submit Vote If you have a very specific prediction in mind, sound off in the comments below.
