I checked out Hastings last night on the PC version, literally just played one single full round, and it seemed really bad. Base spawn camping was rampant in the first half of the round. Luckily there were some tanks so a quick message to my squad saying all I need is an engineer and I was able to get a whole lot of kills and stop the base spawn camping and actually then play the rest of the round the way it was supposed to be (I always play Conquest), so it seemed like it had some potential, but literally the round just started off with a good 10 minute fight for the team I was on to just get out of our base. it turned really ugly really fast. Hope maybe that was just some one off experience, but not counting on it at all.

Looks like DICE released Operation Hastings for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in an "act of compassion". :)

I've probably had this experience on every single bc2 map. Bad teams are bad :pinch:

Bad teams do suck. They should return the game to the original functionality, where when you'd join you'd be grouped with your friends. I can't stand having a crappy team. It just becomes unfun when you run out of ammo, get revived in front of an enemy tank, and you are the only one arming and disarming.

So let me get this straight: pc gamers have to earn the map, console players receive it as a gift! WTF?? They should have gotten it at 69 million, like intended!

It was a community challenge where PC players came out on top. Instead of waiting for X360/PS3 players to reach 69m team actions, DICE decided to unlock the map for them in what I'd call a gesture of compassion. I play the PC version of Bad Company 2 and Vietnam exclusively and this doesn't bother me one bit at all - and it shouldn't bother you too.

I'm not certain. I think you should be able to because it just gives you a key that you add in game.

Great, that's all I needed to know, thanks. :) Pheee told me the same thing earlier, but I just wanted to double-check it on here first before I went off and bought it. :p I got a 20% off code for the EA Store, so I can get it for ?8. :)

Doesn't work

Eh? Are you sure? trag3dy and Pheee both said you just get a code that you enter in-game in BC2, regardless of what version you own, and Pheee says it's the same game on both EADM and Steam, buying the Vietnam expansion only gives you a code to enable the DLC in-game, and that there isn't a separate download.

This is from Michael Kalms on the Steam forum, consider it your definitive answer because well.. it is (it works btw):

Edit: Updated with info regarding gifted Vietnam

There seems to be some confusion regarding purchasing Vietnam. I hope this clears things up.

Any stores that "sell BC2 Vietnam", sell a 16-digit code. This code can be entered into the BC2 game client - any version of the game client. Entering this code unlocks Vietnam for that EA account. No additional download is necessary.

Here are some typical scenarios:

You have bought the base game on Steam, and Vietnam on Steam - this works. You will see Vietnam listed in your Steam client.

You have bought the base game on Steam, and someone gifts you Vietnam on Steam - this works. You will see Vietnam listed in your Steam client.

You have bought the base game on Steam, and Vietnam somewhere else - this works. The Vietnam expansion will not be visible in the Steam client, but you can access it in-game.

You have bought the base game somewhere else, and Vietnam somewhere else - this works.

You have bought the base game somewhere else, and Vietnam on Steam - this is not possible, because Steam will not sell Vietnam to someone who does not have the base game on Steam.

[initially, it was possible to make this specific purchase - but Steam changed that fairly quickly.]

If you somehow did manage to make such a purchase, please contact Steam support to resolve this.

You have bought the base game on Steam, and someone has gifted you Vietnam on Steam - this works. You will also see Vietnam listed in your Steam client.

You have bought the base game somewhere else, and someone has gifted you Vietnam on Steam - well... Long story. The gifting will succeed. Steam will know that you have Vietnam, but you will not see it in the Steam client because you do not have the base game. Therefore you will not be able to view the 16-digit code for Vietnam. Contact Steam support to resolve this.

We have been in contact with Steam, and their support department is aware of the above.

The "Vietnam" menu in BC2 will say 'go buy the expansion' until Dec 18th. (It will still say so after you have bought the expansion.) After the 18th, the dialog will change to one where you are asked to enter your code.

Proper skill! (Y)

In other news, I'm finally getting close to making Rank 50! Decided that I'm playing so much again, that I might as well try and get to Rank 50. Proving a doddle. Finished up the UMP-45 and got the Platinum on that. Started on some of the Vietnam weapons too. Should be easy!

Anyone played this in a pro environment yet? I've been persuaded to join the European ladder got my first clan match in a couple of weeks. Should be interesting.

That is so true, it's unbelievable!

All I can say is.. be prepared to be frustrated by medics.

:| That's it I refuse to play this game anymore because no matter what I will do from this point onwards it will never be as incredibly insane as that was!
If he plays like that all the time, then all credit to him. But you can make even the noobiest of noobs look good with some creative editing, and pasting frags ;l)

It's not that I'm worried about. It's the tactics! The sheer raw unadultered power of my USAS can deal with a whole squad of medics easy ;)

Wait, aren't you in the USA? And I guess you'll have to brush up those MG36 skills. :D

    • Owing to the nature of Windows feature enablement updates, it was distributed over Windows Update services as a complete system upgrade rather than as an ordinary cumulative update
    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2, urges IT admins to prepare for release by Usama Jawad Windows 11 typically follows an annual update cycle, but Microsoft recently broke that tradition a bit by releasing a "26H1" version in the first half of this year as a "scoped" build for select new silicon PCs only. This version was not available for customers using 24H2 and 25H2 builds, as Microsoft is busy preparing version 26H2 for them, confirmed officially for the first time. In a Windows IT Pro blog, Microsoft has urged IT admins to prepare for the upcoming release of Windows 11 version 26H2. The company has confirmed that this will be a small enablement package (eKB) that will simply light up certain disabled features that are already present in the operating system's code base. This means that the "refined" Windows update and deployment experience will be simpler and quicker, with minimal disruptions, as the feature update will simply toggle a few flags rather than performing a complete replacement. Microsoft has explained that this is all possible because the standard Windows 11 releases share the same servicing branch and hence, the same source code. However, this also means that Windows 11 26H1 users won't be able to upgrade to 26H2 as that is a different branch, but this is something we have known for a while now. Similar to previous annual feature updates, Windows 11 26H2 will offer the following support cycles: 24 months of support for Home, Pro, Pro EDU, and Pro for Workstations editions 36 months of support for Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise Multi-session editions Microsoft has not confirmed a concrete release date for Windows 11 26H2, but noted that it is "coming soon". If we go by the ongoing release cadence, we can expect it to begin rolling out in early October 2026. As such, IT admins have been encouraged to begin validating Windows Insider releases in the Experimental Channel, plan rollout rings, and strategize the utilization of their existing deployment tools.
    • Windows 11 gets new audio improvements in the latest builds by Taras Buria Today's Experimental builds (26H1 and Future Platforms, formerly Canary) pack several audio-related improvements. If your device is enrolled in the Experimental Channel (26H1), you can download build 28120.2315, while those in the Future Platforms version have build 29613.1000 to try. Here is what is new in build 29613.1000: [Audio] Following up on our previous improvements, we’re making some more adjustments to Settings > System > Sounds based on your feedback. Namely, we’ve updated the “All sound devices” page so: You now have the ability to change default devices from this page. Each of the devices displayed on this page now has a little volume meter next to it to show if there is audio actively playing. We’ve adjusted the page design slightly so now you can filter whether you’re viewing input or output devices. We’ve added toggles so you can choose if you want to hide or show disabled, disconnected, and unplugged devices on this page. We’ve also updated the input and output audio properties page for devices in Settings to now include jack information for those that need it. And here is the changelog for build 28120.2315: This update includes a small number of minor bug fixes and improvements. [Accessibility] This update improves caption style responsiveness by redrawing captions immediately for caption style changes. If no current caption is visible, a sample caption string is displayed. [Audio] This update improves the reliability of the inbox HD Audio driver. You can find the official release notes for build 28120.2315 here and for build 29613.1000 here.
    • I agree with what I think you are saying, just not in the way you are saying it. Like any tool, the amount it represents your work is perorational to the effort you put into it. It is similar to why 2nd grade math students learning to add and subtract are not allowed to use calculators, but a high-school calculous student is. For the 2nd grader, that tool would completely replace the work they are doing, for the calculous student the same tool allows them to work far more effectively while in no way replacing their effort or knowable. If you spend 30 seconds writing a prompt, then the image that comes out is no more "yours" than if you found the same image with a Google Image search. However, many of these generative tools also support highly iterative processes that allow back and forth, and merging generated images with photos or human created images. I am sure you would agree that a human spending hours of time working on a project, even if AI was involved in the process, still reflects that human's work.
