Well I just finished the SP, so now I can fully concentrate on MP, and honestly I have to say DICE should just stick to what they do best, MP.

It was not awful, I definitely had fun while playing it, but it really suffered from some truly disappointing aspects overall.

As already pointed out by a ton of people, the way they chose to handle the cut scenes was pretty much atrocious. Just really amateurish is the best word I can use for it. No smooth transitions in and out is really the biggest thing of why they were horrible IMO.

Also, I know the whole game is about the destructible environments, but seriously having red explosive barrels everywhere just really, really is cheesy. No other way I can put it.

There was also a whole lot of doing things for no reason at all. Like running down a tunnel, etc. I could go on, but it just seemed like there was a lot of filler areas thrown in.

Finally, it seemed like all they really did to make the ending levels harder was just stretch out the Save points, and that just got pretty frustrating. Just was not a big fan of that approach at all.

Again, I did enjoy some aspects of it, at times it was fun to play, but I almost feel as if they should have not even bothered.

Now I'm wondering if I should even bother. I did notice that the difficulty level of Normal is by far harder than the original.

As I've said before, I'm going to forgive this SP since the main focus is MP, and consider it an "add on bonus." I mean, there are plenty of MP games out there at full price that don't even offer single player.

i played for about an hour this morning. it was fun as hell, came first in two games too :) finally ranked up to level 2 private. XM8 is a wicked gun and i got a few dog tags by knifing people. Is it just me or is everyone elses fav part of online shooters knifing people, especially snipers?

People play FPS intended for online play for the single player mode?

Yeah, I bought Battlefield for the SP mode.

@ Anaron - I had those weird numbers on Day 1 actually. Also I forget exactly what it was, but text in the stats for me was real messed up, one of the columns. Was on top of itself or something, it was weird.

Thanks for the impressions. Probably not going to bother with the SP then. Or at least, it's very far down on my list of single-player games to play through (beneath about ten other games :)).

Is it back to normal for you? I'm afraid my stats will forever be in the decimal range. I don't even know why it changed like that. Like, how did I get 0.999023 points to throw it off? :s

That sux big time... Why do they do this? Most of my "lan buddies" have only a 3g capped dongle :( and their internet get's throttled if they go over 10gb or so.

It does. If I remember correctly, you could create LAN servers in BF2. I don't know why they got rid of this feature. I guess it's to combat Hamachi-esque piracy.

Hmm funny I've had 0 issues with the game so far. Except the odd high pings and dodgy hit reg occasionally. Just played on my own and a mates server for my Rush/Conquest fix. Played 5 hrs straight too. :D

Right. Time for bed! :p

I noticed you playing earlier so I joined your game but I didn't see you. I must've joined the wrong server. :o

I noticed you dropped by a server I was playing, we did fairly well :)

A friend of mine told me the issues were sort of fixed, so I went searching and found a nice Danish server - Ping was all over the place, despite server browser

reporting it as 31 average. So there's still some ping issues but I actually got in and it was a Hardcore server! That is the most fun I've had in a game for months and months!

Hardcore is so awesome I can't believe it, snipers are powerful now but they aren't even that big of a problem, you just take different routes. I just kept going, 1 hour, 2 hour and

I think I'm closing in on 3 hours and still want more, have to go hit the sack though but I had the biggest smile on my face today ... Epic experience.

Some of the maps I went through are STUNNING, I was watching the scenery as enemies just passed me by.

This is already my GOTY, no doubt about it. This wipes the floor with every other FPS out there and especially MW2.

By the way, what's the stat page URL?

Whoa!!! If anybody now has any shred of doubt about this game they should rest well assured! Sethos here is probably THE most critical, grumpy old guy when it comes to games and for him to write the above means you should probably donate some organs to DICE as a thank you!

Haha good to hear you like it dude and I hope you will still be playing this come April when I get my PC rig and we can throw down some games together (Y)

Yeah dude I was meant to today but the guy at my local store just would not budge on the fact that it releases on Friday, regardless of all my pleading so I'm gona have to pick it up before work tomorrow and I will most likely be on around 10 pm London time, So thats just about the time you yanks jump online right? I should be able to hook up with you guys for most of the night :D DL you down for joining us for a few games?

haha you are ight about that but I don't think sethos ever had a problem with DICE. He just can't stand EA neither can most of us.

But I'm glad to see the "Sethos Stamp of Approval". (Y)

    • Looks like the 7.1 is fake effects, can it at least do real 5.1? It says 'virtual 7.1' in all descriptions.
    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
    • Just saw a news report of a Waymo driving into a flooded road.
