[Official] Red Dead Redemption

don't forget about the upcoming DLC (Y).

Yep I am definitely looking forward to the dlc. Ironically I actually just learned about it for the first time yesterday a few hours before you replied. CoOp just sounds really kick ass.

I was initially afraid of playing in public free roam, but after last night, man this game is so much fun. The single player alone is epic, but the multiplayer just adds a TON to this already great game. One of the best experiences I've had gaming in months.

I absolutely loathe public free roam. I can not even spawn in free roam without getting killed immediately. I really wish they would not have put xp earning in free roam. It would make that game so much better. I wish they would actually force people to play gang shootout, grab bag, etc. or do gang hideouts to get the xp. All people do is xp boost in free roam. Its stupid. If they want to keep that in the game fine, then give me the option to host a public free roam room, and boot whoever I please if they are just going to be xp boosting all game. Id rather play with people that want to posse up and do gang hideouts or go play an actual team based game.

I really miss the old original xbox live and its titles that let you host your own lobbies. They really need to give that option back to players. So few games have it anymore its sad. Games were much better back then when you didnt have to tolerate racist people, cheaters, glitchers, etc. You could just boot them and be on your way to finding an opponent that wasn't an ass.

I won't get 100% simply because I cannot do the five finger fillet at Torquemada.

I'm not a retard or noob gamer so I suspect there's some kind of glitch. I know the patterns from reddeadwiki and don't even look at the screen whene ntering (like everyone else does to pass the test) and still cannot do it.

Edit to add: I can do five finger fillet just fine elsewhere

Finished this about an hour ago. I have to say, the ending is probably one of the most incredible endings to a game that I have played for a long while. Loved it. Granted, they could have approached it differently, but I think the way they did it was great! Pretty much loved every moment of this. Video game story telling at some of it's very best, well impressed!

Sat on 92% or so now. Got some challenges to do, and a few outfits.

Make sure you don't skip the other guy's turn, it glitches the timer and you will lose.

I just got 100% this week :)

I just got round to finishing it, thought it was a pretty damn good ride.

While I enjoyed GTA4, this was better and a lot more fun in general, and contained a lot more mini-games and things to generally do with the challenges and such like, something I hope they stick in the next GTA.

As to the ending,

I'm left feeling a sad that John got killed, I had really grown to love the character a whole lot and I really enjoyed playing as him, there were reasons he killed, the time and that he was infact a "bad guy", something that was kinda broken with GTA4 and Niko who wanted to get away from the killing and ended up slaughtering half the city, lol.

I was playing through and kept thinking that I can't wait for a sequel to carry on his story once it got to the end, as I honestly thought at the time that his family would end up getting killed, and that would possibly lead into a second game, but then I got to his ranch and the family missions and I could see where it was going to head.

And the fact that you get his son instead, ergh, I feel kinda cheated, I don't know what they expected us to feel with him, but they give us one character for like 95% of the story, and then give us that annoying kid you hoped would get shot who has some really annoying lines.

Feels like a waste of what was a good character, I'm considering starting again as I accidentally saved over my save before John got killed, and doing everything as him before doing the last tid bits that you have to as his son.

You can switch to a private free roam game and invite your friends at any time. Your exp gained there carries over to public games, you can't gain most online achievements there but at least you can take out gang hideouts and be left alone. Also, if you choose to stay in a public free roam game just send posse invites, most people will accept them and you can team up for gang hideouts that way too.

I know exactly what you mean;

I wanted to cry when John died! I loved Johns voice, which really made him a perfect character. Now that I'm playing as Jack, I feel weird. I think his voice is too "girlie" and doesn't have that raspy/cocky type of tone that comes through in John's character.

Well at least I wasn't the only one, lol.

I was looking things up, and with there being a number of things that you don't unlock till you get jack, I might just suck it up and finish everything, but on mute and listen to a Podcast or some music as his voice really annoys me.

John dying is such a waste of one of Rockstars best characters. :(

I was finally able to get a good session today with this game which clocked in around four hours. I went all the way from doing missions for that Mexican General to Blackwater. I am still loving this game all the way around. With GTA IV, by the fourth iteration some of the mission types just feel repetitive. While you can definitely sense some GTA type missions in this game, overall they are a lot better and more varied. Town battles, train battles, horse back type missions, etc it is all there.

So far I have some pretty hilarious glitches. My top four probably have to be:

1. I shot a cougar and it flew 50 feet straight up in the area before coming down like a bullet.

2. A Mexican was completely buried in the ground one time expect for his sombero which I promptly shot. That action pulled his body out of the ground and gave me wanted status. :p

3. I was in a dual with a general type guy when I completely screwed up my shot. At the same time I was pushing the left analog stick hard to the left. Normally when you screw up that bad, you die easily. For some reason the guy shot right past me and missed. After that I was able to walk around like the dual was over but couldn't bring up my sights to shot the fellow. Four seconds later the screen turned red and I dropped to the ground like I had just got shot. Needless to say, I was rolling around with laughter.

4. I can't remember what mission this was, but you pay some man who is beating a woman $200 for her. During the cut scene (before paying) that woman is crying heavily. Immediately after the cut scene I pressed B which triggered another cut scene. For some reason there were two woman (in the cut scene) all of a sudden fused together. One was still crying and throwing her hands up while the other woman thanked me and ran away. The crying woman was stuck to the ground and stuck in a crying loop.

Red Dead Redemption is one of those games to me that you finish through and you trade in..

With that being said, this is the first open world game that I actually finished.

It took me about 15 hours to go through main storyline and for the most part I loved it. The story was great and ending had a good impact on me even though one might have guessed.

I found Red Dead to be in some parts of the game really boring.. which is something these guys need to learn from.

First half of the game was horribly boring, until you get to Mexico. That's where I started to see this game as awesome..

I also found the ranch stuff once you go back home to be really really tedious. I guess it did play a role in me connecting more with the son and John's attempt to live a normal life but it just dragged for too long.

In the end though, I liked the game. The story was solid (typical western) but it had an impact. Which is always great.

Since I'm done now, I'll be trading it in.. it's one of those games I have no need to continue playing but the overall experience was very good.

Would I still enjoy the game if the ending was spoiled for me?

It's too good a story to spoil, really. I may be somewhat predictable but it is 'powerful'. Best left to unfold as you play. It makes the ending that much more meaningful.

So yea, I guess it would definitely spoil the whole experience.

    • First time clicking on a Sayan Sen article after he started making clickbait, vague headlines recently. Didn't read, just came here to say the headline doesn't look like very cheap, vague clickbait this time. Are you okay?
    • Good review, and yeah the benchmark breakdown is pretty clear but also a little messy in a good way. It’s kinda interesting to see where the RX 9070 GRE slides in between the 7800 XT and the 9070 XT , especially when it comes to AI tasks and Blender style workloads. The side by side with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 4070 makes it feel obvious just how competitive the mid range GPU scene has gotten lately, and that’s great for creators and gamers too since you can pick based on your priorities rather than only chasing one single thing.
    • That's it. I finally uninstalled Firefox because they often keep pushing buggy updates, only to test them later and make users suffer. No longer is it my alternative browser to Edge. What a waste of energy. Firefox is bad for the environment, just like Chrome (wasting RAM/energy).
