It really depends on the applications you use.

Android still can't compete with iphone games and more commercial applications.

I'm getting an iPad, so I don't mind so much.

I barely play games on iphone..

Only one ive played seriously is angry birds...

I mainly use shareprice.co.uk which has android app, camera, ipod, facebook, Ebuddy, Nateon, Shazam, Orblive and maps

Just looked and they all have Android equivalents or versions... so hows the battery compared to iphone 3gs?

Order sent to warehouse for dispatch tomorrow. :)

Although I'll be on orange, it appears I will be getting the unbranded and unlocked brown version.

I can confirm this.. any sim card works in the one that mobiles.co.uk sell and it's definitely not branded :)

If 500MB isn't enough for you you can add another 250MB for ?5/month.

Man , really nice pic , can u make it as a wallpaper for me? :p

PM please please

BTW the review is not professional , but far better than those detailed ones which do like a post mortem of the hardware. At least i could understand things here :p

Sure - just some quickies. If you want anything specific let me know. Also, I am no great photographer so I apologise in advance for the pictures (click to make bigger)...

Great pictures of the black version, thanks (Y) I really love the sleek font Android uses for it's interface

It's called Droid Sans and is available for free download. Do a Google search for it ;)

Also the black one looks nice, cheers for the pics. :) Sometimes I wish the iPhone 3GS had a softtouch back. My case will have to do.

Got mine a few days ago! Despite never owning a touch screen before, I pretty much instantly gelled with the Sense UI! I was extremely impressed. A small learning curve (I come from the ye olde era of the k800i - still a great phone btw), but nevertheless still pretty easy to get hold of. -REALLY- hoping this baby gets 2.2 quickish so a 16GB MicroSD card purchase won't seem so... pointless :p

The black Desire looks gorgeous too.

@m?k

I love your photos, outstanding.

I wish i had that eye for photos.

Did you encounter any issues plugin different headphones ?

£15 per month on T-Mobile.

How did you manage that?

Mine arrived at 7.05am today :D. It's a good phone, but it makes me want to buy an iPhone 3GS or 4G :pinch:

Good Points:

  • The look
  • Hardware - Speed, Camera and Screen
  • Sense UI
  • Widgets
  • Multi-tasking
  • Notifications bar
Bad Points:
  • Marketplace - Dollars, Euros and GBPs?, lack of applications compared to iPhone.
  • Google Mail application - I need to try a couple others.
  • Keyboard - I'm sure I can change this too.
  • Find the physical buttons uncomfortable to use

The App Market is continuously growing, currently at over 50,000 apps/widgets. Android is newer than iPhone so would be smaller and it's only very recently that Android sales have exceeded iPhone sales in the US.

Everything else you note is configurable via apps. The Gmail client is push if you use Gmail and is very good.

I want one, things stopping me so far are the cost and the fact I would need to repurchase my Co-Pilot licence. All together I would be looking at around ?400, currently can get ?140 for recycling my Touch HD so it's certainly tempting.

Why would you need to repurchase your co-piolot licence? I have reset my hd2 a couple of times now and i can always enter in my licence number and it activates every time.

    • Close, but it is for any application starting, not just during boot time. In fact, it probably will not improve boot time at all because during a boot, the CPU is already boosting, so a pre-boost wouldn't change anything. I agree that it isn't exciting (especially considering every other OS already does it), but it is a good thing, even if they are just playing catch up.
    • Any so called performance increase will be in milliseconds, which nobody will actually notice in real world usage.
    • All it does is use the CPU more efficiently during boot to speed up boot times. That's it. Yawn....
    • It's not a one or the other kind of thing. Software should run efficiently, and the operating system should appropriately manage the CPU clocks. You could have the best most optimized software on earth, and it will still run faster if the CPU does a better job of boosting as needed. All this is doing is pre-boosting the CPU based on user actions, instead of waiting for the normal detection mechanism to kick in. If the OS knows it is about to need more CPU, why shouldn't it use that knowledge? It's the same idea of downshifting before passing someone, instead of just burying your foot into the peddle and waiting for the transmission to figure out what you want to do.
