I have a couple of questions for you guys,

Will I receive the OTA of Froyo (Switzerland) if I've rooted? I've manually checked for updates and it finds one (I forget which but it's not 2.2 just some minor thing) and it doesn't install, therefore it left me wondering is not having this minor update or is it the fact I've rooted that stops me etting Froyo?

Can anyone recommend a bike mount for the Desire, preferably waterproof?

Thanks

You cannot update at all OTA if rooted.

If I'm honest, I wouldn't put the official one on. The custom Froyo one's are better in my opinion.

Even those that are very closely based on the official Froyo build.

Depends on what kind of user the owner is. I know at least eight people with Android phones, and I'm the only one who had rooted and flashed a custom ROM. Stock 2.2 isn't that bad at all. I'm planning to move over to LeeDroid ROM sometime during the weekend.

The full official RUU package for Froyo / 2.2 is out now. Get it here.

Excellent, thank you.

I will surely try other ROMs and I've heard too that the apps2sd on Froyo isn't great and that was the reason I first rooted but I wanted to try the official ROM anyway.

Mine should arrive today or tomorrow, couldn't be bothered waiting it out for the HD model and I've got a good deal.

Actually so excited to click uninstall on iTunes and rid my PC of all it's junk... that and getting rid of the absolutely crippled 3G since iOS4.

Enjoy it :)

Would advise on getting it rooted and putting 2.2 on it as well, pretty painless task and well worth it for the full flash, install to SD and 720p video recording.

I looked into rooting, but it apparently seemed pretty tricky for 2.2? Any noob guides?

I'd rather much like to run the Vanilla OS, I cba with custom roms.

Well right now the main reason I want to root it is simply so I can use AdFree :p

I'll maybe get into custom themes/etc later on, right now the widgets and default level of customization look fine to me (Y) Absolutely blows iOS out of the water, which I've been using for nearly 2 years.

    • All it does is use the CPU more efficiently during boot to speed up boot times. That's it. Yawn....
    • It's not a one or the other kind of thing. Software should run efficiently, and the operating system should appropriately manage the CPU clocks. You could have the best most optimized software on earth, and it will still run faster if the CPU does a better job of boosting as needed. All this is doing is pre-boosting the CPU based on user actions, instead of waiting for the normal detection mechanism to kick in. If the OS knows it is about to need more CPU, why shouldn't it use that knowledge? It's the same idea of downshifting before passing someone, instead of just burying your foot into the peddle and waiting for the transmission to figure out what you want to do.

    • There really isn't anything magical about the low latency profile, other OS's do this as well. All they're doing is using your CPUs boost clock options in a more smarter way.
    • So we shouldn't have the option because of people using their laptops on battery? OK? LOL
