I am sad :(

Just found out today that my contract with Vodafone doesn't end until February. They'll let me upgrade in November but I want to change to another provider. Maybe another company will buy me out in November/October, but I will only be going on a Sim Only deal for 12 months :/ Hmm.

I didn't know where to ask this so I thought I asked here. I've rooted to Open Desire and I was wondering how I can get the lock screen and the pattern screen at the same time. Right now, if I set a pattern lock, the screen lock is disable whereas if I set a pin or password lock, the screen lock is still disabled. I find it useful that the silent mode is just on the screen lock itself so whenever I go into meetings, I can just slide my finger to silent it.

Anyone can help me please :) ?

Scirwode

Still waiting for 2.2 in Australia, Telstra is very tight lipped about it (no release window, not a peep..complete silence) probably too busy hacking out all the features and add all their crap to it so it's just as slow as 2.1 :p doesn't matter. I'm happy to wait till probably next year (if Telstra can be bothered haha) to get 2.2 and I'm not planning to root my device at all, I can't justify breaking the warranty of my device just to get an update (that I will get eventually) sooner when the current version is more then adequate.

EDIT: Just found out HTC are currently testing the Telstra ROM for the Desire, they plan to have it ready to release not long after the UK generic release so hopefully it will start coming through soon (officially).

The casing is rubberised so won't get scratched and any marks are cleanly wiped with a damp cloth. I still use a hardcase though because it protects the phone from knocks and falls (if it ever happens) and I don't like getting palm prints on my phone and it keeps the phone casing in new condition :)

I had the Android pouch but I CBA putting it in and out all the time!

As for custom ROMs, it's always better to run a custom ROM, you get more features.

I'm on LeeDroid 1.7b at the moment.

You benefit from:

- Cache2SD

- Apps2SD (not the inferior FroYo version but the SD-EXT version)

- Superuser permissions (important)

- Root access (most important)

- Busybox bits

- De-Odexed and optimised for custom mod changes and so on

- More free internal RAM

- Tweaked performance

The case is called black hardcase for htc desire - on ebay @ about £2!

Thanks I picked one up with a screen protector.

I looked more into the custom rom you're running, seems quite good. I guess I would want one that preserves all official features and only adds some useful stuff. Don't really want something that changes the whole system (overhaul) and/or disables official features.

It seems unlike iOS, with Android you don't need to go jailbreaking and installing lots of custom applications to do basic things Apple left out.

There are stock Sense ROMs with mods built in like apps2sd, superuser and stuff but I'd recommend something like Leedroid or PinkyDesire or Pays FroYo Sense ROM.

I've been running Pays pretty much from the start and love it. Noticing a few things that seem unusual on his latest release but might just be me.

Leedroid and Pays look like two contenders for me (Y)

There's so many custom roms though! laugh.gif

Do the custom ones have auto-update/are they easy to update? I hated the hassle of jailbreaking my iPhone all the time.

On that note I absolutely cannot wait to hand my iPhone off to my parents and get rid of iTunes and Quicktime from my PC.

Nope you can not auto-update a custom rom, however updating is almost as easy as copying a zip file to your memory card and rebooting your phone.

When your phone is rooted you basically want to download Fake-flash and rename the file to update.zip, then copy it to the root of your SD card.

You also need to copy the zip file for the custom rom you want to flash / upgrade to the SD card, when you have done that power your phone off.

Now turn on your phone with 'volume down' pressed and select 'Recovery'

When the exclamation mark appears, press and hold 'volume up' then press 'power'

Select the second option, 'Apply sdcard:update.zip

That's it, ClockworkMod recovery should launch!

From ClockworkMod recovery you can flash a zip file (custom rom) from the phones SD card, you can also erase the user data / settings and cache from the phone memory. This is usually not required when upgrading to a new version of a custom rom, however is usually recommended when switching to a different custom rom.

Thats how I have been flashing custom roms anyway, the above method works pretty well for me.

I have the MoDaCo 2.2 Froyo with Sense R7 rom on my Desire at the moment. I like the MoDaCo roms as you can customize them exactly how you want, then simply download your custom rom to the SD card and flash.

Or if you're not already rooted, just download unrEVOked, and by the click of a button you'll be rooted and ClockwordMod recovery will have been installed. Easy peasy.

I recieved the Froyo update OTA about a week ago here in India. I had bought an unlocked and unbranded handset running an Asia ROM. However I flashed a WWE RUU the day I got it.

After the Froyo update downloaded,it went into an endless reboot cycle however. Don't know why it did that though, as I had read on forums that only unlocked and or debranded phones might have issues. But anyways, I just downgraded to the 1.21 ROM, inserted my gold card, and ran the update again. Updated without a hitch after that.

The speed boost is fantastic! And finally an official torch app that does not need root! INSANELY bright!!:woot: Although frankly, Apps2SD has not helped too much, as among the apps I use, very few have the option to move to SD. But I have installed everything I need and still have a fair amount of free space, so no biggie. I know that the unofficial Apps2SD is far superior, but I just don't want to root my phone. Happy with the way it is currently!:)

I didn't know it was that easy now.. and I only rooted about 3-4 weeks ago!

Is it installed to the phone's recovery partition or just the memory card?

    • Formatting would be awesome if fully customised and then roll out the settings as a company wide standard.
    • I just want to know why the volume control feature in the browser version keeps appearing then disappearing, here today - gone tomorrow. Now it's gone again. Annoying as hell.

    • This article does not make sense and it’s very evident, the bug wasn’t confirmed to exist, because the application itself runs on editions of Windows which make it impossible to run Hyper-V VMs on, “Basically, Claude Desktop on Windows spins up a 1.8GB Hyper-V virtual machine if you use Claude Cowork or agent mode even once.”, suggests the bug is caused by something else otherwise it would only happen to users with the capability of running Hyper-V VMs and that’s only if Hyper-V was enabled which is by default not enabled. The true issue is that the author who reported the bug used the incorrect terminology, it’s actually a container, not a VM that is being started by the way. There were users on macOS reporting the same issue, Hyper-V, doesn’t exist on that platform obviously. Every single user who confirmed the problem in the last week was either using macOS making this issue impossible to be relevant to them, or was a comment talking about WSL, which the author indicated 3 months ago was disabled.
    • “To prevent hallucination issues and keep the database clean, the platform uses a multi-agent verification loop to check code quality.” - This absolutely isn’t happening. ”Before the massive rise of LLMs, which tanked its traffic by about 50% over the last couple of years, Stack Overflow was the go-to website for millions of programmers seeking coding solutions.” - It still is trusted, because the community of users, blocked other users from submitting false and misleading answers generated by AI agents that can be convinced something it generated is actually incorrect even if it’s actually correct. The company itself doesn’t know what it wants to be so it keeps trying and failing to introduce AI features to the platform. This effort will also fail, already submitted one successful poison pill, look forward to generating more.
