Got it in 5 seconds from a Google search.

I think it's O2 branded, do I need to debrand it, and how? Thanks

Because you are rooting and flashing a custom ROM you don't need to debrand.

Debrand is for people who do not want to root, but want to remove all network junk (like Orange crap) but want a clean official ROM flashed.

If you just want to root and install a custom ROM, then you don't need to debrand. :)

Even if 2.2 isn't available on O2 yet? Phone runs 2.1 and says no update yet as O2 haven't released Froyo OTA. Thanks

Cool I might debrand then, but I think O2 leave the phone quite clean tbh.

Is it easy to debrand?

Dead easy mate.

1) Create goldcard

2) Download 2.2 RUU

3) Flash it

4) Profit

Although, it is important to note that once you flash to official 2.2, you can't root it yet. It adds new protection.

Can I not flash to 2.1? I still want to root it, just remove O2 stuff.

Yeah you can flash to 2.1 as well. But if you are going to root it and flash a custom ROM anyway, there is no point in your debraning to 2.1. Complete waste of time. Just go straight to rooting it and flashing your chosen custom ROM.

Hehe Scirwode, thought that was you on there ;)

I seen you in the OpenDesire topic ;) I'm going with MoDaCo though to keep the Sense UI and I used the 'cooker' as the author calls it to customize my rom myself.

Yup, that would be me, how many Scirwode's from Malaysia could there be anyway :p ? Anyway, it seems OpenDesire won't have the Launcher at all, it's all back to stock so I'm happy as a bunny :D !

Scirwode

My phone is apprently now rooted but Titanium Backup can't get root access :/

BusyBox says it's unrooted but may be nand locked whatever that means?

edit: Got Titanium Backup to work by clicking the problems button and updating :)

Okay on the bootmenu whenever I choose Recovery to create a nandroid backup/flash the custom rom the phone powers off and I can't turn it back on unless I remove the battery :/

Can you run us through exactly what you did?

Also, what version is your HBOOT and is you Desire's screen SLCD or AMOLED?

Followed the steps here - http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howto-root-your-htc-desire/

Hboot is 0.83.0001

How do I check screen type?

Think I found my answer, been issues with that HBOOT - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740274

Got it working, thanks for the help if you hadn't mentioned the hboot and SLCD I wouldn't of been able to search anyway :p

In related news what's the difference between SLCD and AMOLED? I guess I got the "cheaper" desire? laugh.gif

I'm also going to buy one of these screen protectors for it (Y)

AMOLED screens are in shortage so they switched to the SLCD not too sure of the differences as I've not seen an SLCD running.

There is no real [noticeable] difference between SLCD & AMOLED. You only have a SLCD screen because HTC are struggling to manufacturer/source AMOLED screens.

And yeah, I have a Martin Fields screen protector as well. Although, I would advise you to buy it directly from Martin Fields. They have a lot of fakes floating about.

Edit* In case anyone is interested and they want to bake their own ROM - CookAndroid is back up!

Happy baking!

After installing your custom rom how long should you have to wait before the phone boots up?

I've been stuck on the O2 Welcome screen for a bit :/ When it first rebooted after installing there was a picture of what looked like a PC software box with a red arrow jumping out and a wee Android guy. Move on from that to the O2 Welcome screen after about a minute or two.

Think my first boots used to take about 5 minutes, I remember getting impatient once and just pulling the battery. Didn't seem to damage it. Not that it's advised but the install of the ROM should be done, just the boot you having issue with.

Edit for your edit, thats pretty normal, wouldn't worry just yet ;)

It's been about 10-15 minutes now :p

I went from 2.1 to 2.2 MoDaCo.

I have to go to the Dentist, I'll leave it on the welcome screen and see if it's changed for me coming back.

Jeez talk about not having a smooth ride to kick off with this Desire laugh.gif

Sounds like you have the common problem of it getting stuck. If it hasn't moved on after 15 mins. Do a battery pull, boot into recovery and clear all the caches (dalvik included).

And you really shouldn't be seeing the O2 boot screen...

    • I just started using Teams (and “New” Oiutlook) at work (instead of Slack) and both are truly abysmal pieces of software.
    • If you are willing to go to approx $200, then as mentioned in your other thread I think a refurbished Pixel 8 will be a great deal that will last you for years. I recently recommended that to someone at work, he was on a strict £200 budget, which got him an excellent conditioned refurbished Pixel 8 here. He's since told me its the best phone he's ever had and feels its a massive upgrade over his old Samsung A series device. I don't know the sites which deal in refurbished devices in the US, however I’m sure you will have some options like we do here. Failing that Ebay is also quite good in my experience. If you wanted something a bit cheaper, then you could maybe go for an older Pixel 7, these will still get security updates until the end of 2027. Even after that you have good third party OS support from LineageOS. It doesn't have to be a Pixel though, you can buy many older devices for a good deal that would be better than a new $100 phone and flash LineageOS to them: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/
    • I don't use one drive, but then I don't use any cloud storage, not even Icloud on my mac. If I did use cloud storage, then I would not use One drive, not because there is anything wrong with it, but because I can use Icloud. The only reason I see to use one drive is if your job requires you to have access to it
    • Not built in, which is not a bad thing. There are ways of adding cloud storage to it, Dropbox is the most well know that also have a client for Linux, but there are others.
