Sounds like you have the common problem of it getting stuck. If it hasn't moved on after 15 mins. Do a battery pull, boot into recovery and clear all the caches (dalvik included).

And you really shouldn't be seeing the O2 boot screen...

I can't get into recovery now :/

Holding volume down and power just turns it on.

However it has now moved onto the HTC quietly brilliant screen (white background/green logo) with a MoDaCo logo below it blink.giflaugh.gif

Anyway it's now staying on that screen and I do have to go to the dentist, so I'll leave it there till I'm back.

It's working fine now :) Now the long and boring process of backing up stuff on my iPhone and transferring to Desire!

Anything else I should do right now before installing applications and transferring contacts/info over?

FFS loaded ROM Manager to parition the SD card, rebooted, now it's sticking on the O2 Welcome screen again laugh.gif

edit: Also sticks on O2 welcome when I try to get into the recovery menu :/ Can't do anything right now.

It sounds like you didn't fully root it and properly flash the ROM. You should not be seeing any O2 branding at all. Especially after you flashed a custom ROM...

I would re-root it, using the SLCD img for Unrevoked provided in those XDA links earlier.

Maybe get one of these instead? :p

Can't re-root it since I can't boot into the OS.

I can now get into the recovery menu again so I'm going to see if I have an adapter to plug the micro sd card into the PC and copy over my rom again and install it.

Did you try just reflashing the ROM? Might just have been a bad first flash?

I formatted the SD card in recovery pinch.gif

Managed to re-root it, doesn't need to boot into OS, unrevoked picked it up on the Welcome screen.

When it boots now though it just displays O2 welcome screen, then text saying "ANDROID", which flashes from left to right.

I tried to mount the SD card in the recovery menu through the PC to move my rom onto it, but the PC wouldn't pick it up. I don't have any mini-sd card adapters in the house.

Before you re-flash make sure to clear all caches as well. There are like 3 different ones. Do them all.

Also, don't know if you are trying to apply mods to your custom ROM. But you need to reboot at least twice (to be on the safe side) before you flash any mods.

Finally got back into the OS. Going to rebake my rom and install it again.

Do you think it's just been a bad flash or is there any other way to format the SD card instead of using RomManager? RomManager did tell me to install some version of clockwork recovery before partitioning the SD card which I did, maybe that conflicted?

The O2 welcome screen is still present after rooting, should it disappear when applying a custom rom?

Just rooting wouldnt have gotten rid of the o2 splash, however a custom ROM should have done so.

Have you tried a precooked one like OpenDesire (Vanilla) or Pays (Sense) just to test it out, before putting your own creation on it?

Might have been a bad flash, no way of knowing for sure without generating a log and I don't have nearly enough expertise in that area to even begin to guess at the problem.

Yeah, ROM Manager would download the update for ClockworkModRecovery. But you would have needed to boot into recovery to install it. It downloads the update to update.zip. And then you would have to install it from the "install zip from sd card option".

Yeah it should in mine opinion. The custom ROM should replace the bootscreen with its own custom boot image.

Hey guys,

My phone just broken and orange want to charge me ?100 to upgrade it, despite on their website I can get the Desire for free on my tariff.

That and a long line of other things have seriously put me off staying with orange (including their mutilation of the Android OS)

So does anyone know the best place to get a Desire (UK) and if mobile providers buy you out of your contracts any more?

Try to import in Gmail under contacts?

Doesn't support .contact files. I'll just have to manually re-enter.

By the way how do you do the "<" and ">" brackets on the Desire keyboard. I'm either blind or stupid :p

Press "12#" bottom right then press "1/2" bottom left ;)

Thanks, I just installed a nice keyboard mod as well :)

I'm running on the standard 4GB SDcard just now, when I get my 16GB is it easy to make the switch??

Yeah, just connect your phone to your PC using USB and copy/paste your data over to the new card.

    • Edifier's popular R1280Ts bookshelf speaker can be a nice upgrade for your PC desktop audio by Sayan Sen Yesterday we covered a very nice discount on Sony's high-resolution SS-CS5M2 speakers, which are currently on sale for just $178. It packs the rather rare super tweeter that offers an additional level of clarity and "airy"-ness which a tweeter cannot provide. It's a passive speaker though which means it will require external amplification, which will cost extra. Let's say though that you have a budget of under $150 but still want a decent-sounding speaker that's active. The Edifier 1280Ts can help in this regard, as the unit is currently at a decent price of $130 (purchase link under the specs table down below). While you will not get deep sub-bass from the 1280Ts, you should get clearer vocals and highs like cymbals than a cheaper satellite-based 2.1 system. Obviously the soundstage and imaging will also improve due to the better reproduction of highs. As mentioned above, the Edifier R1280Ts is active and so does not need a separate amplifier, as it's a powered system with its own amplification. A great thing about this model is that you can add a separate active subwoofer to it too using the "sub out" option, which essentially acts like an LFE. This way, you can add in the missing deep bass. The technical specifications of the Edifier R1280Ts are given in the table below: Specification Value Total Output Power 42W RMS (21W + 21W) Driver Units 4-inch mid-range/bass driver + 0.5-inch silk diaphragm treble driver Frequency Response 52Hz – 20kHz Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) ≥85dBA Input Sensitivity Line In1: R/L: 500±50mV Line In2: R/L: 700±50mV Inputs Dual RCA inputs Outputs Sub Out port for external subwoofer Get it at the link below: Edifier R1280Ts Powered Bookshelf Speakers - 2.0 Stereo Active Near Field Monitors with Subwoofer Line Out: $129.99 (Sold by Edifier Online Store, Shipped by Amazon US) This Amazon deal is US-specific and not available in other regions unless specified. • Appreciate the focus on UI performance, but this is going the wrong way. Instead of optimizing performance, coding to lower latency, etc. this is just throwing horsepower. This is lazy.
    • I agree, but that's the popular online opinion about them, so I followed it. I do think they have their point, no matter how combative they sound most of the time.
