<snip>

does any body know what their ideas are for the "library", because right now i see no difference between it and firefox 3.6

running nightlies.

I was wondering the exact same thing.

I'm pretty sure the UI of the library will be changed. It probably just hasn't gotten any attention yet like the Options menu.

b8 nightlies are now so stable that I find myself using it more than 3.6. They just need to finish and optimize those fancy UI feature and it's ready for B9 and RC.

Still many bugs to be fixed. I agree it is stable, but still so much to be done. Especially with the UI.

He might be asking about when is it going to be a menu again. In which case, I thought it was the way it is now by design. Right?

Yes the current way is by design.

A quote from Alex Faaborg; Firefox UX team.

The reason this is the intended behavior is that the unsorted bookmarks folder is intended to hold potentially thousands of items (since you can now create a bookmark with a single click on the star icon). Menus don't handle overflow very well when they are populated with a large number of items (hard to scroll, etc.)

when do you think we will see final at the earliest based on how things are going?

we expect it to arrive most stable @ earliest , if Mozilla follows policy of other browsers , then Beta 6 would have been Firefox 4 and beta 7 4.5

I am starting to wonder if they should not have just released several updates with some of these features and then just finish out with 4 as the final update.

+1

I think we will be lucky enough to even get beta 8 by the end of the year especially with how things are going.. still 15 blockers.. no way its out on dec 7 like previously mentioned.

Well the original plan was for 3.7 then 4.0...maybe this way is easier to maintain for them?

It's always easier to wait to release until you've finished everything. Then you can scrap code you don't want and just wait until the new code is done before releasing. Unfortunately it means the users are stuck with the old version while you build all the new features into a browser they won't see for years. I think a lot of the features in Fx4 definitely would have been appreciated in 3.x, while we wait for this major code revamp. On the other hand, this will probably lead to quicker Fx4 release.

    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
    • Outlook classic is inherently better than new outlook, for a number of reasons. That said, if the only reason people need office is to read email, they should just use thunderbird.
    • Windows 11 is a big thumbs down from me. I used for a period of a few days while it was in insider and windows 10 was the main OS, and realised it wasn't for me. I am still waiting for Windows to be tolerable again, a shame as at one point I was very pro Microsoft.
    • Classic outlook, not only does it have a much fuller feature set, it doesn't include Microsoft attempting to sync my emails from my servers to theirs. If classic outlook is ever removed from office, and the version I paid for in 2021 stops working for some reason, I'll use Thunderbird.
