Picasa Alternative

Need some software that's really good at organizing my photos, and which is also able to upload them for my friends to see in fairly good quality .

I suppose Google Picasa is the most commonly used, however is there a good alternative you guys could suggest?

Windows Live gallery

I find it better than picasa anyay, and it's a lot easier to add plugins to which can directly upload to toher services without silly extra uploader programs.

it's adjustement tools are also better and you have more manual control if you wish, and the next version will come with some really neat new features.

No, don't mind paying it it's something worth the money.

I have Adobe Lightroom Beta 3 which is amazing for quickly editing the photos, but it feels to 'cumbersome' sorting through several folders with large amount of photos. It's also only able to upload to Flickr, which is not for me..

There's actually plugins for other sites than flickr, pretty much all image hosts and social sistes are supported with plugins. however, unless you use a DSLR I think you'd find WLPG a better and faster option.

Well I have a Micro four-thirds camera, so technically a DSLR...

Will look into Window Live Gallery though, and use it as a supplement to Adobe Lightroom :)

I've been using ACD SEE for almost ten years now, never had a problem except from database errors every other three years or so.

Do you shoot RAW? RAW only?

Around 90-95% is shot in RW2, Panasonic's RAW format. So something that can handle large RAW files is of course a bonus :)

@Goji: Looks quite interesting judging from the website info, how does it compare to Picasa or Live Gallery?

Used ACDSEE last time prob 5-6 years ago now, and wasn't very happy then to be honest..

You might want to try ACDSee products again. It has changed quite a bit from 5 - 6 years ago. There is a free 30 day trial for ACDSee Pro 3 which allows you long enough to determine if you will like the software.

ACDSee Pro 3 will allow you to process your RAW photos. You can also manage the photos as well as do editing on the photos -- adjusting lighting, coloring, etc.

In addition, there is mode called ACDSee Online where you can upload the pictures you want and share them with your friends that way.

Windows Live Photo Gallery + FPV Codec will handle RAW and any other format.
