Introducing Atlas2 forums (beta)

Recommended Posts

I take it you have dropped all IE6 support for this theme ?

Next to no images load. Not even barely usable in IE6.

Unfortuntly, at work, I have no choice but to use IE6 - We have no privledges what so ever in updating to a newer browser.

There has to be a stage where the web moves on, and Neowin is probably one of the most modern websites out there. It's like a game developer making games for a PS1. They have PS3's now. People still use PS1's somewhere out there but there haven't been new games out for ages, apart from small, die-hard fans making them.

Neowins like a big game developer. :0 Only work with current technology.

I appreciate that - Unfortuntly, i'm forced to use the PS1 ;)

There was talk of updating to a later browser, but haven't heard anything for awhile.

Things I do not like about it:

It does not show your avatar for now beside your user name.**

The colour selection is collected in a horrid combobox, please use the same Red, Green and Blue balls from before.*

Can we have a drop shadow off the Middle content? It is a little too hard to see the content when it blends in with the background.

The background is too light.

Can the main buttons up top (News, files, ETC) curve into the content?*

Can the Ad have a round edge at the top right of it? It would look nicer with the round edge of the footer.*

*Picture included of a rough concept

**The blue box next to the name is where the Users Pic would be.

Sweet :) On the Pro Version Now :D Can't wait for the final. But Yeah, I agree with Jan's Idea. Have the 3 Circle at top for the theme instead of the drop-down/up box at the bottom of the site.

Good point, I think it wouldn't hurt if it was placed right next to the search button.

I'm not really a fan of it, it's less space efficient :/

How so?

Additional dislikes:

  1. When hovering over Community, the box under it shows instantly, whilst the Community button fades to white, can you make both fade or both show instantly? Both fade would look much nicer though.
  2. I do not like that the Ad is in the footer, it looks out of place, I much prefer it where it used to be.
  3. I do not like the Pro's redness sick.gif Although Darkside will be for Atlas 2 so that is no problem yes.gif
  4. The background is FAR TOO light (I know this was in the previous list but this is a BIG deal.

That's all for now!

Additional dislikes:

[*]I do not like that the Ad is in the footer, it looks out of place, I much prefer it where it used to be.

I disagree, I think it's better at the top as it makes use of the empty space up top. And it frees up the space in the forum and makes it cleaner. I find it a better layout than the previous one.

I've never been a fan of the circle icons, maybe just having a paint bucket or something would be better? ;)

Also @ whoever said they should get a sub for the FP, we don't have the new FP design either :p

Well, we got to see it, but not use it sadly. Blame Neobond.

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
