i'm using his finesse vs now, along with the shell32 avi (copy etc...) and the toolbar (explorer) bitmaps.

but I'm still using iconpackager for the icon's.. anyone has a shell32 yet?

-- or maybe I should give it a try....

hmm, better if someone else makes it :p

Got fresh links for the icons and DLL mods!!!

I've updated the links on the first post of this thread and I'll duplicate it below for ya....

This is the progress so far with ChaNinja Style RC5 Icons and DLL Mods for SubZero color scheme.

ICONS

All icons come in sizes 16x16 to 128x128. They look better the bigger you display them.

DLL MODS

NOTE - the following previews are in GIF format and may look sluggish. (They look fine in ACDSEE). The actual AVIs included will be much smoother and faster.

>> Sample DLL files

The above download contains the following system files from Windows XP Professional with SP1 (English)

They are the latest WIP for my ChaNinja Style RC5 (SubZero) project.

i.e. INCOMPLETE

shdocvw.dll - for download animation

msgina.dll - for TurnOff screen

netshell.dll - for a few icons (internet related stuff)

logonui.exe - o_O

sysdm.cpl - for "System Properties" dialogue. (My Computer > Properties)

explorer.exe - for "Taskbar and Startmenu" images + few icons.

shell32.exe - for the rest of the animations and icons (ControlPanel "Performance and Maintainance" icon not done yet)

(includes toolbar icons and new "About Screen"...see screenshot below)

Shell32nExplorerResources.jpg

You can use a Resource hacker like "Restorator" , "ResHacker" etc to extract

and re-allocate these resources to your system files if you have other Windows or SP versions.

Please DO NOT distribute these resources AT ALL!

NOTE

- Remember to make backups of all your original files before installing the DLL mods.

- If you still see the default folder icons when in "Thumbnails View" then run a search for all the "thumbs.db" (hidden files) and delete them. You should then see the new icons after you refresh.

- Please comply with the license agreement and I'd appreciate a headsup if you find anyone breaking the agreement.

COMMENTS

During the next few phases of this project I'll ...

- Finish of the other icons that got mentioned throughout this thread

- Do all the above for the other 10 color schemes from RC5.

- Finally do the boot screens.

As you can see I am sticking to the core Windows XP icons. So if you have any icon requests apart from other 3rd party application icons, then please post them.

Hope you likes!!!!

BIG thanks to "Linked" for hosting these files!!!!!!

hey cha just wondering are u gonna make a module for GUI Replacer? if so that would be great cause would make it damn easy to replace everything there. if u dont have time thats fine maybe u can give permission for one of us to make it :D

Yeah sure...where can I get GUI Replacer?

Well most of the Control Panel icons (except one) has been added and a new "About" screen for explorer.

Also updated the shell32.dll with more icons (not new) and toolbar icons. Apart from that everything else is the same.

Oh and the sysdm.cpl file has been added.

Can you write the GUI Replacer link differently...neowin doesn't like it :( Maybe without www and http).

cha can u do an icon for firebird.. i think a lot of us here use firebird :)

an here's the link to GUIReplacer's main site <a href='http://madd.<< spam >>/' target='_blank'>here</a>

that link is considered spam hehehe thats the reason i wasn't able to post it hehehe

http://madd(DOT)no-ip(DOT)com/

lets see if that works

Oh and I forgot to mention, I recently became the proud owner of a real ninja sword (I'm SO in love). It looks almost like the one on the RC5 Startmenu but better! So I decided to make a slight update to the VS so that it'd look more like the real thing.

If you like it, I'll update the other color schemes too and post them here along with their icons.

The links are broken :(

Mind posting them again?

Beautiful work Chaninja. I have what should be a simple request :-)

When you create the cursorxp packages - could you also release just the plain windowsXP cursors? I do not care for the 'all animated' cursor effect with cursosxp - and probably am not alone in this. Many thanks for your incredible GUI modification work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary in AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update but that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
    • But the reality is it will work for people's needs, and they don't care about the technology that makes it. Clearly not everyone's needs, but that low end space where personal laptops were only used to type emails, watch content and browse websites, but they didn't want to do that on a small screen device. Heck, writing that out I can now see the connection and reason it'll do so well. Apple is about experience. If the experience is bad, they don't release it. Low end Windows laptop manufacturers up until this point have not taken that into consideration ever before, so slow laggy usage with brittle slimey plastic shells were common. I hope that the low end space at least creates better physical products that last a bit longer, and if Microsoft get their act together, they could also have a solid OS on such low end hardware that would actually make the experience work for what the hardware was intended for. The fact that the CPU is a "cellphone", sorry mobile phone processor is irrelevant. It's about the experience, and so far, that sounds quite solid.
    • Hello, Bonjour is Apple's implementation of a multicast-DNS service, which allows devices running Apple's software and/or hardware to find each other on your local network.  I believe the Windows version was last updated around 2010. If you do not need it, you can stop and disable the Bonjour service in the Services Control Manager (filename: SERVICES.MSC).  Once you have done that, the operating system will no longer attempt to load the service.
