[Official] Kinect - Over 4 million units sold!

Who cares? MS can send review kits to whoever they want and whenever they want. Game sites aren't somehow special because they're game sites. Even if they get it a week before release they should just be happy they get one at all.

You realise not only this not a gaming site. But it's also the biggest gaming magazine (somewhat helped that it's owned by the biggest gaming retailer in the US - Gamestop). It's secured some huge exclusives in the last couple of months Batman: AC & Bioshock: Infinity to name two. So when they say 'we can't get our hands on software' it's a big deal.

Cameraman on speed.

Indeed. It's obviously most likely in error, considering smaller sites are getting the review goods.

I also see that Best Buy is not taking any more pre-orders :(. They changed the button on the website from "pre-order" to "coming soon".

Amazon US is still taking them though. I just did mine with same day release delivery for 99 cents.:

Thanks for your order, Brian!

Maybe Best Buy didn't ask for enough units, I doubt demand could be that high yet unless Kinect is being advertised a lot in the US. Everywhere in the UK still has it in stock, I've already ordered the 250GB Kinect bundle from Shopto for ?290. Now I just have to wait until Nov 10 :(

All of the Kinect pre-order game cases on the shelves at my Best Buy ($5 each) are now gone. I think MS only has a limited number being made. Now with Amazon UK being sold out too, I see it's getting pretty thin.

In other news:

Microsoft opening up Kinect for indie developers soon

kinect1.jpg

Are mere two months back, there were no plans to let the "little guy" in on the Kinect movement, but in a sudden turn of events, Microsoft will be providing indie developers with the Kinect dev tools sooner rather than later.

Corporate vice president for Microsoft Game Studios Phil Spencer showed his excitement in a recent interview in which he said that "getting a broad set of developers supporting our platform at all levels is important to our success." That makes sense given the critical acclaim of some of the indie games on Xbox Live, let alone the latest Arcade games.

"When community will light up, we don't have a date lined up yet. It's not that I'm hiding it from you I just don't know. But getting a broad set of developers supporting our platform at all levels is important to our success. It's in our plan to make that happen," said Spencer. "It was one of the things that was exciting to me seeing the experiences at TGS that were a little bit out there. You start to feel like you can have people doing really different things, and the platform documentation is there to the point where people can go create a flaming baseball game while somebody else is doing a river rafting game."

He finished: "I'm trying to answer your question specifically about how far away we are. I think we're close…when you can simply drop the things in and go away and it works perfectly, then you're ready. And I think we're close given we're so close to shipping."

Xbox 360 owners will receive a Kinect-ready dashboard update between now and November 4th, the day Kinect launches in North America, swiftly followed by its European launch a few days later on November 10th.

Very nice. I might give more indie titles a chance then.

Oh I didn't realise Amazon UK had run out. I still have trouble believing demand is that high though. Microsoft have already said they want to sell 3 million units in a couple of months. That implies that will have produced that many units, it may be that Microsoft has put most of the units into the Xbox bundles rather that have them separate.

Or, it's just all PR. For all we know, MS might have only produced like 10,000 units are are intentionally making the product scarce to improve demand (Wii as an example).

I think that when MS says they expect 3million to be sold that they've probably got a good chunk of data to back it up. Only time will tell of course but it should be interesting.

Wow so many places already stopping preorders? Kind of reminds me of the iPad earlier this year when everyone on the internet said no onne's gonna buy it and apple couldn't keep up with pre-order demands.

What recession?

That looks absolutely ****ing terrible, the launch titles better be nowhere near as shoddy or people have a $150 TV remote.

    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
    • Uh, after intense testing now, 'Samsung Browser' is not the best one outside of 'Microsoft Edge' after all. Opera Air is that. It has "some" bloat, but it's far less than what both Microsoft Edge and Brave browser have.
    • Weekend PC Game Deals: Resident Evil, Mafia, Like a Dragon, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place every week for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic concluded its mystery giveaways this week with another double freebie promotion. As a part of this, you can now grab Rogue Waters and Songs of Conquest to keep. Songs of Conquest is a turn-based 4X strategy game where you'll be managing a kingdom, making tough decisions, and taking down enemy forces in tactical combat. Meanwhile, Rogue Waters is a roguelike where, as a pirate captain, you command a ship and crew through procedurally generated encounters. The double giveaway is coming to an end on June 11. On the same day, Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks will join in as the next freebie. Another Humble Choice offer was revealed earlier this week, bringing a refreshed eight-game selection to jump into. The June selection is Octopath Traveler 2, The Riftbreaker, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, INDIKA, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, Construction Simulator, Hell Clock, and Overlooting to keep as Steam keys. The $15 bundle gives you all eight games from this month's Choice selection. The month-long promotion will come to an end on July 6, giving you ample time to decide on whether you want the titles. The Humble Store also brought in standard gaming collections this week. The IGN Live Bundle kicked things off with games like Control, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, Blair Witch, Rollerdrome, and The Last Campfire for $10. At the same time, the We Will Always be Here bundle carried in titles like Bad End Theater, Thirsty Suitors, Vampire Therapist, and Tavern Talk for $12. Next, the 2K Sports Champions Bundle comes touting games like NBA 2K26, PGA TOUR 2K25, OlliOlli World Rad Edition, and TopSpin 2K25 with a hefty $25 price tag. Lastly, the Redline Racing Bundle is touting games like Art of Rally, Descenders, Mudrunner, and Assetto Corsa Competizione with a $10 price tag.
