[Official] Kinect - Over 4 million units sold!

Looks like MS is aware of the shortages:

Microsoft "working hard" to meet Kinect demand

http://www.thatvideo...-kinect-demand/

Hot on the heels of reports that Kinect is selling out all across the UK comes word from Microsoft itself saying, in short, 'Don't panic.' The technology giant is assuring consumers that it is working hard to ensure supply will meet demand for the upcoming holiday shopping season.

"Pre-orders have demonstrated that there is exceptional consumer excitement and demand for Kinect," a spokesperson for Microsoft said, "and we will continue to work hard to ensure that Kinect for Xbox 360 is available for the Christmas season."

The representative continued, highlighting the fact of the Kinect launch taking place over a span of three weeks in every market the Xbox 360 is sold, making it necessary to have "more units of Kinect available than any other Xbox launch."

That's a bunch of units, and a bunch of HD-DVD graveyard companions if this technology doesn't pan out like they hope. Fingers crossed, Microsoft.

Kinect algorithm updated by Microsoft to better detect seated players

Worried that Kinect won't work when you're not standing directly in front of it, despite the assurances given by developers? Worry not -- Eurogamer has heard that Microsoft has changed the configuration on the body recognition system, switching a node on the body model from the base of the spine to the back of the neck, allowing for players who put their knees above the waist while playing to be more easily recognized. Previously, individual developers could still edit their own recognition systems in (and the previous version of the system worked just fine for most types of sitting), but this is a change to the base recognition system that Microsoft is building. So it can see you even better.

In fact, the way we understand it, a skilled developer could even recognize you in that weird position you used to sit in as a kid, where you put your back on the sofa seat, and hung your head upside down to stare out at the TV during Saturday morning cartoons. No idea what they'd use that pose for, but they could do it.

Just read on GAF that the press are starting to get their review kits at last. So it doesn't look like there will be a review event. But it also means someone is telling porkies about recieving his already. ;)

LOL, pwnd.

So swinging around a lit up dildo is much cooler, right?

No one in my house owns a light up dildo, go ask your dad and test out the cool factor for yourself.

Gotta say, MS is advertising and promoting the **** outta this. Smart move. They should have pulled some of those ad dollars aside for Alan Wake though. sigh.gif

AW picked the wrong time to release, it should've been a week or hell, maybe 2 weeks sooner than what it was. Of course they could've advertised the hell out of it but still, it's also a matter of finding the right time to release. Regardless it's probably sold well I think.

I agree, it was the wrong time (I would have done Holiday, AND I would have had the Signal part of the game on the disk. I then would have had a card for The Writer as free for those who buy the game new. That's just me though :)

What happens if I'm not fat and don't dance? rofl.gif

Then you can board or race. Or use it as a remote control. Or use it for voice recognition stuff, once it gets supported on the PC. Or use it for any number of other games that will come later. Or probably use it for a webcam or microphone in any number of other games.

Seriously though. Not sure why you would need 5 x fitness, 3 x dance and 3 x sports games all at launch.

I know it'll take time for them to use Kinect in different way but come on, space these out a little!

Microsoft has no control over what other studios make for their platform though. but more is better, more means competition, competition means quality. since if there's 5 to choose from, you're not going to buy the crap ones, so they all need to step it up to get any sales.

I'm more referring to the third parties. Plus, more games can also means you game gets overlooked because it gets lost in all the shuffle.

Not sure i totally agree with your quality argument for launch games though. They've not had the opportunity to see what works/doesn't work in these games so they can't develop depending on that. Which is where i think the second generation of these games would see this happening.

Let keep this in context here- you're still talking about a fitness game?

They all do the same **** regardless of the developer. They make housewives think they are going to be fit waving their hands about in front of a TV for 20 mins.

"so they all need to step it up to get any sales." Haha!

So you're saying they don't work now? Maybe if all they're doing is waving their arms for 20mins ya, but if you get your whole body into it for a good 20mins of nonstop movement with a fast rhythem then ya, you do get fit.
