I confess: I bought an iPad (and so far I love it)

From what I've heard it's a little on the heavy side. You can always get a stand or have it on your lap I guess.

Really I heard it's the other way around, it weighs less. The Lap hmm.. again you're looking down right? it's going to cause some stress on your neck in a matter of hours.. this happened when playing some games on my iPhone.. which put me completely off playing games on my iPhone..

You're absolutely right. I forgot Microsoft later changed that policy. But still it is not the best OS for a netbook. It should be something like where Chrome OS is going (where everything is run from the cloud).

meh i have no issues with it. i haven't put anything on my hdd yet, but setting up streaming from my desktop was fast and easy. to stream music or video from my desktop all i need to do is open wmp and select my desktop pc and it has access to all the libraries i set for streaming.

the only thing i find annoying is because i only use my netbook about once a week, it's little laggy while i download and install windows and asus updates. part of this is it doesn't have wireless n, and part of it is i am also trying to stream flash from youtube and browse 3 other tabs while this is going on with wlm in the background.

what little i know of chrome OS is unappealing to me even on my netbook. i have an hdd for a reason, and wifi isn't so bandwidth generous that i want to stream every little app i have running before i run it. not sure if that's exactly how it works but nonetheless.

If I'm reading then I'll hold it out in front of me with either one or both hands. The iPad isn't heavy, it's a nice solid weight - the kind of weight you'd expect (and want) a solid product to feel.

If I'm in bed watching video, I just prop it up against my legs. It is really that versatile a device, you can hold it however you want.

Considering getting one of these for my desk set up. That way I can leave either Twitter or Reeder open whilst I'm productive on my Mac.

I love how everyone is still saying they Love their iPads yet not giving us a reason what I'd really like to know what you love about the device & how much use of it does it get?

I really would love to know how you sit and use the device; Do you sit legs crossed, on a bed? on a couch? in the bath?.. I have looked at the iPad ads and to be quite honest it looks like they have the device in their laps and are looking at it by bending forward.. Now wouldn't that be really really bad for the neck? So again I ask How do you sit using your iPad? and what do you find most comfy?

I posted what I used my iPad for. The thread went quiet for awhile, and then the same arguments came up again. My post was ignored completely. Anyway, I use the official case from Apple and usually keep it propped up on my desk, standing up. I only really do this when I'm using it for email. When I need to type something up or do heavier work on it, like remoting to different machines, I'll put it laying down, but still propped up with the help of the case. This makes it feel more natural when you're typing on it. I do everything from browse the web, play games, watch movies, remote into other machines (Cisco IPSec, VNC, RDP, LogMeIn, Citrix, GotoMeeting, etc.), and when I am working with cameras, I even use it to help me focus the lenses. Sure, at the moment, it doesn't multitask, but it only takes about 2 seconds to switch between applications that you're using. It does make my job easier.

At home, I mainly use it on my lap or in bed.

It sounds like it's very awkward and inconvient to hold/use.

It sounds like it's very awkward and inconvient to hold/use.

It's not. What's nice about it is that you can hold it in a multitude of different ways depending on how you want to use it at the moment. That is something that you cannot do with many other devices.

I love to use PCs, I learned how to use them since I was seven; I've two PCs for gaming, a laptop that I bring to work, and a netbook (Dell Mini 10) that I use in travels and as "download station".

That said...

I really like the iPad, is my first Apple product and I have tried them all: MacBooks, iPhones, iMacs, iPods, you name it.

Why do I like it?

Because I can check my email, browse news, do social messaging and navigate almost instantly. I don't need to boot my PC, or wait for Firefox to start or even open the bookmarks. Just push the application icon and there it is. Even as a "hardcore" PC gamer I like the way most iPad / iPhone games works: fun and simple ideas well executed (well, not every game, but a good bunch).

For news I use an App called Flipboard, is a glorified RSS Reader with Twitter and Facebook integrated. But I like how it presents the information. Maybe that's the secret of the iPad, it doesn't do anything different compared to a netbook, except the presentation is very... organic, friendly or "for lazy people" if you want.

Not everything is happiness, the price is not that friendly, it weights a little to much for my liking, it has problems with wireless (I can't connect to my office wi-fi), and I really really really hate iTunes for PC.

But, since I bought it my netbook has been relegated, I only use it in very very important trips where I need to use office or connect to the company's server. Otherwise I use the iPad.

Now, everything stated in this post only applies to me, it's an opinion not the absolute truth. Take it in mind before trolling / flaming.

I also love my iPad, but before I bought it I couldn't figure out how I should really hold it. When I got my iPad I held it in my hands and I immediately knew how I was supposed to hold it. When I sit on the couch and want to surf the Internet, or read sth, I just hold it with both hands. When I want to type lots of text, then I put it on my lap and use it. When I watch movies then normally I put it in a propped up position, using my case or a small pillow..

I use my iPad more than my Mac Pro an that is saying a lot! Internet, Emailing, playing games, watching movies, reading RSS feeds, reading PDF documents from work..I love my ipad and people that do not see the use of it, I suggest that they use it for an hour or so...

this is my answer

ok, remake that fugly thing Apple style, with OS X while docked and iOS when in tablet mode, name it something like Mac Book Touch, launch it at a flashy keynote using many superlatives and bam!!! that will sell millions ;)

I mainly hold it in portrait with both hands, as checking RSS (Reeder my app of choice), facebook, emails, etc requires very little typing and I can get away with using both thumbs, or using one hand to "pick" at the keyboard.

As soon as I need a bit more keyboard control (like writing this post or lots of twittering) then it goes into landscape mode and on my lap. I usually have a pillow in between my legs to get it to hold a bit more steady - I have a case but i like the feeling of the device in my hands so only use the case for carrying it places.

As for getting a bad neck / feeling akward: on the first day I had a bad neck but I'm not sure if it was because I was using it for about 5 hours straight or if I hadn't found out the best way to use it yet. I don't get a bad neck anymore and usually have it on my lap whenever watching tv so i can check Twitter or other things in the adverts.

LOL.. that U1 is anything but ugly.. the tablet itself looks much prettier than iPad to be perfectly honest..

mmm may be, but I can see that case breaking easily, it's ugly and not practical at all

Would love a tablet with Flash. Can't wait for Froyo-based Android tablets.

Yes.. iPad with Flash would be awesome.. it has the CPU to do all awesome stuff.. I can only imagine how awesome we could make websites with videos and for branding to work with touch screen. It would be fantastic.

But, whatever.. we'll make iPad friendly html sites to fall on and build full on experiences for Android devices I guess.

Am I the only one who thinks that the lack of Flash support should be mentioned as a feature? I absolutely can't stand Flash-frenzy websites, and my flash blocker is always turned on while browsing with OSX Safari.

    • Opinion. All you did was blame Democrats for everything. You offered nothing but a hit piece to support your pro Trump, anti union right wing ideology.
    • Excuse me for having an opinion, fella'... (Why am I not surprised?...) Congrats on your very informative post however...
    • By the sounds of that wall of Fox News propaganda gibberish attacking the Democratic Party you've already had plenty of "juices" flowing this morning. You've ruined what could have been a productive comment thread.
    • (Topic to get the juices flowing this Sunday morning!...) Actually, the situation has almost nothing to do with "lack of skills", especially since assembly-line skills can be taught to anyone, including Americans, certainly. Rather, the inadequacy-to-impossibility of large-scale tech manufacturing in America today, and the reasons why America finds tech manufacturing completely onerous in the 21st century, has to do with politically driven laws amid a plethora of non-scientific, utterly politicized "science-fact" that is patently false, punitive business taxation at every turn, an array of judicial fines of unimaginable scope and complexity, and, last but not least, American unionization strictures that serve to actually slay job creation and hobble all such manufacturing endeavors in America before they can get off the ground. Globalism emerged, they tell us, as the needed answer to American hubris and an unholy American drive to excel. Unless one is buried under mounds of political propaganda, it's easy to see the absurdity of labeling the employees of SpaceX, for instance, as "unskilled labor"... Etc. ad infinitum. At one time in the recent past, American manufacturing prowess was the envy of the world in a wide variety of technical fields! The current federal and state government roadblocks against America becoming competitive globally in tech manufacturing are considerable, it's true, as anyone with a working brain knows. But remarkably, that is only half the story! The other half of the story is, of course, the corporations themselves... Chinese tech manufacturing is simply unassailable in terms of profits, because the Chinese government wants to see its tech manufacturing second-to-none globally so that no companies/nations can compete in terms of ROI, and China has completely succeeded in that goal. Let's tic-off a few things: *Chinese tariff policies are set according to what is considered best for Chinese business, Chinese employees, and the Chinese people. Huge difference with how things are done with tariffs in the US--as the US government (SCOTUS in this case, Congress in others) plainly feels that tariffs are "unfair" for the limited number of citizens who may pay them, whereas nothing is "unfair" when Congress considers the Personal Income Tax rates to be infinitely hike-able, along with infinitely enlarging annual budget deficits. *The Chinese government boldly subsidizes Chinese companies to artificially amplify their profits. *The Chinese government deliberately refuses to avidly demonize Chinese businesses and does not consider Chinese businesses "the enemy", so very unlike American (D)s these days. *Chinese labor laws and businesses are allowed to set their own labor policies according to what Chinese companies consider is best for companies and their employees... Simply put, American workers in tech manufacturing are not allowed to set their own labor policies! * One additional problem corporations have that I also do not sympathize with is they don't want to pay to train their American employees. They could easily do so, but would rather not have to pay for it. I find that pathetic, actually. It is the height of hypocrisy for Americans to decry working conditions in China while simultaneously ensuring that American products are manufactured in China, not in the US, simply to maximize profits. There is nothing wrong with making a profit, of course, absolutely nothing. But there is plenty wrong with attempts to normalize hypocrisy of this kind! But rank hypocrisy and the (D) party in the US are longtime bedfellows... The current government in Washington is working overtime to see if it can toss out the horribly poor, failed economic policies of the past, while the (D)s still in Washington work very hard to bring back the stupidity whenever possible. With the right policies in place, America can be an infinitely competitive manufacturer.
