Can't stand Windows' font rendering either. Almost fonts look like they're suffering from severe anorexia especially on a screen such as my 27-inch iMac.

And I can't stand Mac OSX's font rendering because it makes everything over-bold.

I still remember when XP was "****" compared to Windows 2000 and ran "so slooooooow", and was "unresponsive". all those benchmarks, showing how much faster 2000 was over xp.

People calling XP "the fisherprice OS".

And then...people started adopting xp, taking a liking to it. then sp1 came out, and then it was the same thing all over again, benchmark show how much slow xp sp1 was over stock xp :p

When Microsoft released Windows 7, it was really the first version of windows to receive almost only positive feedback from the very start.

If Microsoft can do this again with the next Windows release, I believe they can really fallow their plan of a 3year cycle between OS releases.

why do you think they are being so secretive as of late

trying to overdo them self

'under-promise and over-deliver'

they need to scrap ALL windwos code.

and rewite it from the ground up.

AND THEY NEED TO MAKE THE BEST DECISION WITHOUT TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION HOW HARD IT IS TO MAKE, or how expensive

they need to sacrifice there lazieness. and do what is needed so that they wont need another rewrite 10 years from now

...

and i want them to start the Windows replacement OS to have NO BUGS OR GLITCHES AT ALL EVER

fix EVERY BUG THAT CROPS UP

who cares what it costs.

if they start out Dev like that, yeah it will take along time to wirte, and yes it will be spectacularly expensive.

Do you honestly think they they would ever ship another version of Windows if they followed that development model?

Why would they spend years upon years to develop a stable product that works across so many platforms and then just throw that work away?

It doesn't make any sense.

Bug turn up all the time, requirements change, hardware changes, people change! They would never ship anything

because by your definition it would never be finished.

Guys, am sure it won't even come close to Leopard; they will implement copycat features but those features will be next to useless. Am not a fanboy, I love office and it's simply the best but Windows needs innovation. Yes it will out sale all other os but will Windows ever be the best operating system? My answer NOOOOOOOOO

It would be great if windows 8 was a repeat of 7. However I think Windows 7 is going to become the new XP. Most people I know just migrated to Windows 7, my university is still on XP and will be switching to 7 soon, my parents are still on Vista (trying to get them on 7). The biggest issue I see for Microsoft is themselves, sure Windows 7 isn't perfect, but its a damn good OS compared to Vista and XP making it very easy for people to settle on it. Its hard to think about switching to something new, when the current works so well

Things have to constantly evolve people. MS has an idea of where it wants to take its OS too, that idea might change a little as inputs and tech change but overall going right the way back to the over ambitious project longhorn, MS may have rebooted things but Vista, Win7 Win8 are all leading somewhere. I woudlnt expect Win8 to be a massive improvement. To be honest Win7 is Vista SE for me, and I would expect Win8 to be the same for 7. Balmer saying they have retained the team confirms this for me and if their business strategy for windows is evolutions not revolution then sounds like an excellent approach.

Project Jupiter, ARM support, completely new UI for tablets...it is already a REVOLUTION..

lulz, turn the phases off stun champ. Id set expectations for evolution and you might be pleasently surprised. arm support is long overdue, new UI for tablets well if they dont leverage off metro id be surprised. Anyway its good but I wouldnt go expecting the moon

As long as they don't take the cloud too seriously, it might be good. The cloud isn't for everything, and I prefer it mostly just for data storage. Not applications, since that impairs performance and flexibility regardless how fast their data center is, due to your network connection speed and requiring your network connection, at least to use the applications "live". Then it's often better to make use of recent technology like super fast SSD drives, that'll put any cloud to shame. Of course, the cloud could be used for synchronization for collaboration features, but that's the kind of limited cloud usage I'm talking about, and not going all in.

would be great to sync our windows preferences/settings :)

i've been wanting to be able to backup my windows settingss to my hotmail account for soo long

i hope they do that!

it's SOOOOOO long overdue

and it would put mac to shame.

they should also have an app store and have requirements for an app to be in it

not the through whatever junk you have together and call it a windows app.

i hope x64 codecs come out soon!.

i think win8 in 2012 is too soon. i mean how long was xp out before vista came along?

i don't expect anything major from win8 to justify an upgrade from win7, just like i don't see anything major in win7 to justify and upgrade from vista(if you already have it). whether win8 will justify an upgrade from vista on the other hand remains to be seen.

i'm not sure i want to see some kind of apple style app store for windows. honestly the software ecosphere and number of choices for windows apps is so huge and relatively easy to find already. and because of MS's market share on their successful products, they wouldn't get away with this kind of thing due to anti trust issues anyways i think. where as apple can excerise a great deal of undue influence on it's ecosphere and what apps and comapnies it pushes on it's userbase, MS can only simply support devs through APis and tools, and let consumers look for these apps themselves using more traditional means. never mind that very likely the kinds of apps big box salesmen already push on customers at a PC's purchase will also likely get featured in any kind of windows appstore, while the great open source or smaller companies devved apps for windows will likely still not appear in teh app store.

while the idea of a "steam like" DRM digital delivery service for more than just games on windows sounds appealing to a certain extent, i just don't see it coming from MS for the above stated reason of anti trust issues. i mean this is a company that is barely allowed to bundle basic OS functionality like a media player and browser in NA let alone europe. where as apple is free to close it's system to 3rd party stuff and so on at is' own discretion, either through not accepting it into it's app store, or simply not supporting it very well or at all(i'm looking at adobe flash here).

as well judging by the xbox live paradigm in relation to DLC and other services, i don't think i'd want MS handling such a service even if it was a possibility.

    • Dude, it's a .reg away from a permanent modification. If you're a power user, look it up and keep the .reg and stop being a crybaby expecting MS to include customization for everything on a generalist OS. The default is what's the best UX for the majority of the userbase, non techie people.

    • Studio MDHR reveals Cuphead sequel and an 8-bit platformer spin-off by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Studio MDHR has been rather silent about its next major gaming project since the release of Cuphead back in 2017. However, that ended today during the Summer Game Fest presentation, with the studio revealing not one but two project announcements. First, the studio confirmed that it is currently in the middle of developing a brand-new Cuphead game, bringing back the iconic characters for another adventure. Just like the last game, this is slated to be a fully hand-animated endeavor. This also means there isn't a release date attached to it yet. “Craftsmanship is at the heart of everything we do here at Studio MDHR,” says co-founder Chad Moldenhauer. “When it came time to peel back the curtain and share a little bit about what we’ve been up to, we couldn’t imagine a more fun way to do so than with today’s Special Bulletin. The studio is working on this new Cuphead with help from Toronto’s Stop Motion Department and Continue Agency. At the same time, Studio MDHR also revealed that another part of the team has been working on a different Cuphead installment. Dubbed the Mighty Cuphead Adventure, this is taking a different art direction to the original. "In true Studio MDHR fashion, this game goes beyond just taking inspiration from the classics of the 1980s… it is actually built with technology of the era," the studio explained. "That's right: Mighty Cuphead Adventure is programmed in assembly language and designed with the exacting specifications of the Sega Master System home gaming console in mind." Aside from releasing on PC and modern consoles, Mighty Cuphead Adventure will even be playable on the 1985-released Sega Master System. A release date has not been announced just yet.
    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.
