PS3 finally hacked?

Recommended Posts

I know 360's leave logs on the NAND when the DVD drive has been unplugged from the mobo and powered on and people think that's a way Microsoft ban consoles from LIVE, so maybe there's some form of internal game logging with the PS3 somewhere, I'm sure I read it stores things on the NAND too.

"Elotrolado is reporting from it's tests that game updates don't work at all on backed up games. If they're already on the system, the game won't boot.

Any games that were buggy before the first patch are going to be a bitch now. Hopefully that can be worked around in the future. "

I suppose you heard this from another insider now that you're in the biz, huh?

Perhaps the playground?

here's more info about the service manuals leaked: http://www.ps3news.com/PS3-Hacks/sony-ps3-and-blu-ray-service-manuals-leaked-via-demonhades/

The manuals contain the pin-outs for all of the chips apparently which should make it alot easier for creating modchips.

I looked on google and bing using the filenames of the leaked files but can't find anything, wonder if they have actually spread well or whether just 1 guy has them.

Somebody call a plumer.

Spanish PS3 developer DemonHades (linked above) has inadvertently leaked Sony PS3 and Blu-ray Service Manuals for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system as a result of his Web server's security being compromised

Yeah right. Sure.

This problably is the same guy that let the original PS3 dev dongle out.

Should get fired and sued for all this worth.

You're funny!

If Team Jungle make a DVD drive firmware then Sony will be so.p***** that they'll send out an update to brick all consoles, just so that they can collect them all in abd change them...somehow.

I think you are living in cloud cuckoo land tbh..

So, where did you hear that pos rumour with the 360 drive? Being serious?

Thats problably false.

Teams like those usually stick to only ONE console. They may give some expirence on what they did with the Xbox 360 but I doubt we will see anything from them. Besides they have the Xbox 360 Slim to take care of.

That news is problably false.

BTW, has Sony said anything at all?

They've already managed to make a firmware for that, they're just preparing it for the public now. They put up a YouTube video demoing it.

I actually contacted a Sony PR gal and she said that they're offering no comment at all, which is no wonder really.

they have a twitter account which confirms they are working on it.

Sony Gets Federal Court to Temporarily Block Sale Of PS3 Modchips

Yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia was granted a temporary injunction by the nation's Federal Court to block the importation and sale of the new PS3 modchips.

The injunction means that until August 31, none of the modchip's Australian distributors will be able to import, sell or otherwise offload the devices. What's more, they have to take all the stock they already have and leave them with Sony's solicitors until the August 31 deadline passes.

Sony has from now until August 31 to convince the courts that the injunction becomes a more permanent arrangement (temporary injunctions are designed to maintain the "status quo" until a matter can be settled). If they succeed, it'll mean the end of legal sales of the device in Australia, but if they fail, then once September 1 rolls around the chips will be able to go on sale.

This is an interesting development, since a 2005 Supreme Court ruling determined that the sale of modchips was legal in Australia (though Nintendo was recently successful in banning the R4). We've contacted Sony to see how they managed to get around this, and will update if we hear back.

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
