PS3 finally hacked?

You obviously haven't been keeping up. There's a emu located at /local_sys0/ps2emu/ps2_softemu.self (also ps2_gxemu.self and ps2_emu.self). There is also a very basic PSP emu located at /dev_flash/pspemu/psp_emulator.self and /dev_flash/pspemu/psp_translator.self

Yeah, most likely for the part hardware/part software BC European 60GB PS3s.

I still stand by my point if the firmware has been completely broken down I would expect someone to have been able to recognize full software emulation buried away in the firmware.

Agreed. I thought this was common knowledge.

From what I understand you can only play the games that you have physically backed up yourself. Currently meaning that other than borrowing or renting games there is little gain from this until you can get them via other means.

You can play backups which have been ripped using Backup Manager (inc. those dled from the net). Other rips will require the eboot to be decrypted within the ISO.

It's not clear whether this "usb key" is plugged in, or soldered to the ps3 because of what I've seen it has what looks like board material you'd typically see inside a PC:

You just copy one of those so called backups to a pendrive and play it from there. You dont need a hardware solution or something else. Thats what I think it is. I dont even have a ps3, heh.

you need a certain hardware dongle or device that this hack has been ported to , from there you can proceed to follow the tutorials on how to get it running depending on the device.

^ ignore the above. It's completely wrong.

For phones you need to install the software to your phone, in the case of Android apps at least, to a new partition/rom which doesn't have all the working features of your typical rom. Basically dual booting (to put it real simple).

Not sure how the PSP/iPhone solutions work but apparently there's even a group working to use the DS3 itself

The actual Backup Manager itself runs/installs from an ordinary pen drive though. Not sure if that's what Gutierrez meant to say.

Will be testing This tonight as it actually looks like it won't even kill the ROM on the phone either. Will back stuff up just in case but would be a nice solution. Will find out by the time 6 o'clock arrives smile.gif

To enable:

reboot to recovery

flash enable psFreedom

reboot back to Open Desire

To disable:

PS2 emulation support is now available for EVERY PS3, not just Fat, that includes slim. That means Sony is a complete sack of s**t removing emulation and then saying its not possible, few weeks and a bunch of hackers later and PS2 support is back.

Here

did you guys really believe when sony said ps2 emulation is not possible??? man i know its a tactics they used to get the increase the sales of ps2 and its games.

Definitelyinteresting to see it all taking off, going to be interesting to see if Sony have some hidden ability to detect all this or block it from future games, who knows.

Guess the fun is only starting.

Wait no longer my good man, NTFS support is coming in the next version of backup loader.

Backup Manager 1.1 is coming in a few days:

Here are all the changes:

Supports any firmware

Supports NTFS Hard Discs

Supports copying of Blu-Ray Discs

Supports playback of the. Mkv video format

Supports the playback and copying PSX and PS2 games (no matter which PS3 version).

Automatic updating of the stick via PC.

Lets Play online without risk of excommunication.

Here

From the link he says "should be possible", not that there is definitely going to be playback of Playstation 2 games on all Playstation 3's, don't jump the gun.

What's the latest with being banned and what not?

Does Sony log things like the 360?

Will they ban the PSN account or your device ID?

We don't know yet, there was a supposed ban of the users PS3, but apparently it was fake.

So we don't know what Sony can do about it, if anything yet, but I would assume going on-line at all would be a bad thing at this point just in case, but supposedly things are going to happen soon.

Works fine :)

Testing by creating backup of BF:BC2 at the moment :)

The emulator is included on every PS3 and just hidden from "non BC PS3". Every firmware revision flashes those same files, they don't provide a separate firmware for BC PS3s. There is also proof of the service mode 40GB PS3 running a PS2 game on youtube.

Moreover, the guys at elotrolado.net are working on a port to the PSP system. The development seems to have faced a wall, since some USB properties cannot be changed thru the CPU (and the open SDK doesn't cover all the functions).

The latest update shows a PSP being recognaized as a HUB by a windows machine. It is indeed a great advance, but not enough to use it with the PS3 (it is a POC).

    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
    • Interesting read. I knew the adware was quite controversial at the time, however never realised to the point The Guardian wrote an article about Patchou. I just said no and enjoyed his creation, I’d probably be a lot more wary of something like that today though.
