PS3 finally hacked?

Recommended Posts

I presume by your high moral standard you have NEVER ever EVER downloaded anything thats pirated or really broken a law? or listened to someone mp3 player loaded full of pirated music (still morally wrong).... or ran a trial of winzip in your life that was longer then the trial period.

I find most people are hypocrites and the fanboys usually take the attitude dont pirate on my fanboy console but I love the fact other co's can be....

Again, what is with the use of the term fanboy?

To answer your question though, yes I have in the past but I've since learnt how piracy can damage industries and now everything I own is legit. My iPod is full of albums purchased through iTunes or ripped of store purchased CD's. I buy all my films on Blu Ray and I don't use winzip.

This topic just happens to be about the PS3, but I'm talking about piracy in general.

Jaicrab USB Firm Loader – First steps for PS3 CFW!

More exciting news from the PS3 scene. Jaicrab has released a program for the PS3 known as “USB Firm Loader v0.2″. This app requires you to have a jailbroken PS3 w/ FTP server program and allows us to dump the contents inside /dev_flash (the “guts” of your PS3 firmware)' date=' install it on a USB stick, and then boot from that firmare!

Does this mean custom firmware for PS3? Yes indeed it does, and this is a very big step towards PS3 CFW =). All that would be required from this point is to make modifications to firmware as needed to let it do what we want.

To quote (translated):

This program allows to simulate dev_flash from a USB. Allowing therefore a Custom Firmware.

We will be able to modify the files of our new dev_flash (USB) to our ill, without running the risk of throwing the PS3 to the sweepings. It is a beta version, surely you will find failures.

I will continue working in it when the time allows it to me.

To remember that the console does not undergo any risk. Everything what really changes of new dev_flash you will be doing it in the USB.

Requirements:

1. – Syscall PEEK and POKE.

Installation:

1. – To copy with the “Ftp server” all the content of /dev_flash to the USB (in the root).

2. – To also copy the JaiC_USB_FIRM_LOADER.pkg in the root of the USB.

3. – To install the package.

Use:

1. – To introduce the USB in the PS3.

2. – To execute USB FIRM LOADER. After a second volvera to the XMB. The new one will sign this loaded.

You will see that any thing that you make the USB will start up. Ideal to modify RCO, to interchange units, which you imagine.

IMPORTANT!

You do not update being in way Firmware Live. That would reinitiate the system having returned to put dev_flash original and it would update to you!

NonUPDATE FROM USB FIRMWARE LOADER!

I hope custom firmware leads to enabling PSN access again :)

Edit, I forgot to add that my request to cancel was honoured. Pretty glad as they lowered the price of the dev board too. Also waiting to hear more on the advancements they make and what Sony are using to ban. Until GT5 comes out my PS3 will go unused anyway, so I'm not missing out. Besides Reach / F1 are gonna keep me plenty busy :D

Dunno if it's been posted yet but...

There is word that the video linked above is fake, but they did find files related to a PSP emulator.

In this video some guy "runs" Crysis on the PS3 using the same trick.

Apparently...

Wasn't the original PS and to a lesser extent, the PS2, ridiculously easy to get pirate games for?. In many places that was a console selling point

Yeah, I think that's where sony shot themselves in the foot!

I know of people that are hardcore PS2 fans, and yet refuse to move to the PS3. Main reason...they can't get copied games.

Since the PS3 only recently started making money on hardware sales, it would have been corporate suicide for them to build a console where piracy was anywhere close to easy. Each console sold to someone who never buys games eats into whatever profits they might have generated otherwise.

This is where i'd like to have a "like" button on neowin.

So people don't have to make pointless replies to show their appreciation to a comment someone makes :)

Just read through this.

What I don't get is how someone knows what to solder? How and what to bypass? How to manipulate the signal from the controller in order to 'hack' the playstation! Genius!!

    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
